Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 02, 2010 8:54 pm Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any artwork in their bathrooms? I have seen heaps of display homes with framed pictures and canvases in the bathrooms, but I didn't think that was a good idea with all the moisture. I want to put something in the ensuite on the wall opposite the shower. Facing the mirror when I'm in the shower is doing nothing for my self esteem , so I usually stand facing a blank wall so I'd like to do something with it, and am looking for a bit of inspiration. Thanks Re: Artwork in the bathroom 2Feb 02, 2010 9:45 pm Hey shell, see p 18 of my thread for the framed pic I just had printed out for our bathroom. I felt the same as you- canvas might not be ideal for moisture reasons. In saying that though, my mum has always had a small cross-stitch hanging in their bathroom and the moisture has not affected it at all in 15 years. Here's a better pic of the print because my photo of the photo is really blurry- Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (It's Gallipoli beach) We have grey cabinets (Lustrous Elm Laminex) so I thought this would go nicely Re: Artwork in the bathroom 3Feb 03, 2010 6:11 am No problems at all with the frames, and I’ve also had in my last house canvases, no problems with them either. Always use the fan while showering; it’s important you do this for many reasons. Currently in the toilet part is one of my husband's paintings, it's far away from the wet areas so won't get damaged. On another wall is a cardboard painting of mine from when I was a child. As long as it's out of the splash zone and your bathroom has plenty of ventilation, I don't think the moisture would be a big problem. Especially if you used a varnished or metal frame, the glass would protect what was behind it. I am sure you could find something. Have you considered a tribal mask? A small shelf with a fern on it? Re: Artwork in the bathroom 5Feb 10, 2010 3:00 pm I have some lovely pressed tin prints of native Haida animal images in both my bathroom and powder room, they because they are metal the moisture doesnt seem to affect them at all. Glad to hear that prints and canvases are ok but I'm thinking now of doing a wall decal that continues around over the shower screen. Hard to describe, a light swirly pattern of leaf shapes thats a few shades darker than the wall colour then changes to frosting when it goes over the glass. Its looks good in my head anyway!! I'll just have to wait till BF goes away again, I don't think he'll like the idea until he sees it... And if it doesn't work I can pull it off before he gets back Re: Artwork in the bathroom 8Feb 13, 2010 8:10 pm Ok, so I did a sample up to see how the colour would look on the wall and when I removed the transfer paper it took a chunk of paint off with it Dammit. Looks like its back to the drawing board... Re: Artwork in the bathroom 9Feb 22, 2010 8:41 pm In our previous home we had a large blank wall above the bathtub in the main bathroom, I put up two large painted decorative plaques, which I picked up on clearance at Target, I think they were meant to be wall mounted candle holders. They looked great, no problems with moisture.
