Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Feb 02, 2010 2:13 pm Hi Michelle and other fellow forum members I am another one of those “long time lurkers” who is coming out of the woodwork to seek colour advice for our acreage home that is soon to get underway. A copy of the exterior design concept for the house is attached. Basically, the house will be fully rendered with some linea board featured as sketched (although we are currently unsure whether it is going all the way around the house, or only to part of it). The roof will be Colorbond. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My husband and I have been going around, and around, and around in circles. Initially we were going to go with a Woodland grey roof, but now we aren’t sure that this will look any good with the light windows, garage etc. and have swung to Windspray, as it takes on a slightly zincalume look. We thought about Surfmist, but as it’s a one level home and such a large roof area, we thought there would be too much glare….plus we thought it may get pretty dirty, as we have some trees around us. Our colour thoughts at this stage are: (Taubmans colours are from latest Interior/Exterior brochures) Roof: C/B Windspray Gutters: C/B Windspray Fascia: C/B Surfmist Soffites: Taubmans Aspen Snow Render: Taubmans Foxtail Linea Board: Taubmans Grey Cast Windows: White Front Door: C/B Surfmist or Tabumans Aspen Snow ? Garage Door: C/B Surfmist Internal Paint: Ceilings ½ strength Lexicon, Flow Colour ½ strength Taubmans Zurich White Veranda Posts: Painted Taubmans Aspen Snow OR natural Kwila posts (was thinking white, but maybe considering wood? We are having coffee coloured bamboo flooring in the living areas, so perhaps wood would work?) My colour inspirations are what I like to call ‘Modern French Provincial / Hamptoms’ style – if there is such a thing (I'm really just making this up!). Inside I’m thinking chandeliers, sheer curtaining, grey/white contrast between walls and architraves, white kitchen etc. Some photos that represent the look I’m trying to achieve: (I know the cladding used was Windspray in this photo) (The House that A-M Built - she may even be a Homeone member....her house is absolutely stunning) I know I won't entirely achieve this look because my window frames will be nowhere as big as these, however I was thinking white shutters in some of the windows, plus white curtaining would help add to the look. Any thoughts on my colour selections or assistance would be most gratefully received! Thanks for reading, Kylie Re: Opinions on Colour Selections please - Acreage Home 2Feb 02, 2010 6:28 pm Not sure if this will help. We are building on an acreage, & our longest (first) debate was window colours (aluminium). OH wanted white, which we have seen on a friends' rural home. Lovely look, but OMG, the dust/dirt that settles on the frames! Our friends are forever cleaning them (esp after the red dust storm earlier). Our house criteria was for low maintenance, as we are both outdoors on the property rather than inside. We selected Woodland Grey for our frames. Very very happy with that choice. Good luck with your selections. PS Our roof is zincalum, also very happy with that look. Facias & gutters same. Have had many positive comments about the appearance. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: Opinions on Colour Selections please - Acreage Home 3Feb 03, 2010 2:12 pm Hi Hammerhead Thanks so much for your reply. This is SO hard....we are still up in the air with everything. I know exactly what you're saying re. the window frames, but I don't know whether I'd be happy with any other colour, as I really want that white shutters look. Our block is 1.5 acres (so I guess really a toy acreage) and it is in a developed acreage estate, so we aren't right out in the sticks amongst a lot of bush. I'm hoping that I can keep them clean. I'm sure my husband would instantly switch to aluminium if I agreed. Woodland Grey is a lovely colour - I never actually thought of it for the frames. We drove around again today and are seriously considering Zincalum for the roof. I'm wondering whether it would work with Woodland Grey gutters and Surfmist fascia. Or whether Windspray would work with Woodland Grey gutters....I'm worried that the windspray gutters look a bit too green. Honestly, I feel stumped at the moment. Can anyone else help? Thanks Kylie Re: Opinions on Colour Selections please - Acreage Home 4Feb 03, 2010 2:16 pm I’m trying…..to stay focused on doing my real estate course; I’m just popping in here to take the stress off with small stuff. If I get a chance I’ll have a look for you later tonight, it’s a long post though. Is an acre acreage? If so, we're on acreage too! Woohoo! Have you got your ride-on mower sorted yet? We got a corker on ebay! We've gone for the white windows! Hope we don't spend our entire lives cleaning them. . . actually, I know for a fact that we won't spend our whole lives cleaning them, as we're lazy! hahaha! It's funny, we've done all we can to make the interior as simple to clean as possible, yet we didn't give a thought to the exterior! Bugger! We went with a monument colorbond roof. . . Phil chose. .. men like to choose the colour of the roof! We've done a lot of driving round looking at houses over the last 18 months. . . possibly a little too much. .. . .. our main focus has probably been the colorbond roofs. The light-coloured ones just get so DIRTY!!! I'm not trying to put anybody off getting one, but how often are you going to get the gerni and scale the roof for a bit of a polish??? I think I'd fall off and kill myself! I love the colour schemes you've shown in the piccies, they're totally different to ours. . . funny, we ended up going for half-strength of the original colour for the main house Moroka finish, the builder saw the original and said if we painted it that colour it'd look like a penetentiary! hahaha! I still think it does!!! Anyway, enough. .. .your house elevation looks great. We're also going for an off-white inside. . . may I ask what you're having on the floor? We're going with bamboo, I'm hoping that will prevent the place looking like a doctor's surgery! Re: Opinions on Colour Selections please - Acreage Home 7Feb 06, 2010 11:01 pm Hello again I just wanted to thank you all for your replies and input, and to let you know where we are at. After some deliberation (and an email exchange with Michelle), we decided to call in a colour consultant and get some professional advice. He met us at the tile shop today - we selected the bathroom tiles - and then he came back to our home and we went through all of the internal and external colour selections. He had all of the samples on hand....best money we have spent so far! Jo K - thanks for posting those photos. Your house looks great. I love the look of Woodland Grey. If I didn't want the white windows, we would have definitely gone with a Woodland Grey roof. jodge - I remember looking at your beautiful home during my reseach here on homeone. It looks absolutely huge! We are also doing Bamboo as our flooring to all of the living areas + the study. Carpet to bedrooms and separate lounge room. Our bamboo colour is coffee. I will have to keep an eye on your blog. I am hoping to start my own blog soon - so keep an eye out for it if you're interested in seeing our build. Thank you all for your friendliness and helpful advice. Kylie Re: Opinions on Colour Selections please - Acreage Home 8Feb 07, 2010 5:57 am Have fun! Have you fully drawn down the loan? 5 11893 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7143 |
