Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 10, 2010 7:23 am We arent fully happy with the front of our house, it turned out that the colorbond colours dune, stone & jasper just arent different enough. Was hoping for some advice on what I could do to liven the front up. At the moment the walls are stone, the fascia and panel lift door are dune, and the roof, gutters and entry are jasper I have toyed with the option of painting the fascia a dark colour, but i think the best way to improve it would be to paint the panel lift to jasper to give some more contrast. Think a jasper roller door would make it pop a bit more? Any other suggestions? http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/billdsl/IMG_1080.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/billdsl/IMG_1082.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/billdsl/IMG_1078.jpg Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. I love the look of dune and jasper together and really like the ideas behind the colour of your house. I think maybe some jasper render around the garage door - or perhaps like you said a jasper roller door. Maybe someone could photoshop some ideas for you My karma ran over your dogma Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 3Jan 10, 2010 7:45 am Rather than darken the garage door, what about lightening the walls? What do you think surfmist would look like on the walls. It would contrast nicely with the Dune garage door. What about the new one "Loft" it is really nice too but i am not sure if that will go with all your trim colours. Yer we prefer the darker colours for the walls, if we went a surfmist roof that would have been nice but DW hates it for some reason. Might have to just paint the roller door then if you think it will work Michelle, ive seen other houses similar to ours with a dark roller door and it breaks it up nicely Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. I was going to suggest what Vundafiu! has done with the darker wall colour around the garage door, I think that's what I would do and I also think it looks fantastic. Adds depth and character in my humble opinion. Very good photoshopping, I must learn how to do that. edit _ PS- I was going to paint my entry/portico area with the darker colour gat I used on my house, but my painter suggested not too. Not sure how it would look. Yours looks great, I love the look of that idea. Maybe I should ask him to do it, he said he would come back if I wanted him to. So nice. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 8Jan 10, 2010 12:00 pm nice photoshopping! I like the dark render around the garage door. I'm not very good at visualising things, but maybe that darker colour could go around the fascias too. Might continue and balance it on the right hand side of the house. Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 9Jan 10, 2010 12:06 pm I like the darker garage door - looks great. Super job photo-shopping, Vundaful, makes it a lot easier to visualise! Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 10Jan 10, 2010 12:08 pm In my opinion.. theres way too much brown and not enough contrast on the facade. Maybe do the garage door in the white.. like the windows? That would look pretty awesome! Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 11Jan 10, 2010 12:13 pm The huey of grey is a nice base to add colour to. I'd be looking to espalier some roses between the windows and the garage wall cecil bruner is a good climber. and has profusions of flowers if cut back all the time. I'd like to see fruiting espalier but it is up to you. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 12Jan 10, 2010 12:15 pm lol, gnomes ftw thanks a bunch for the photoshopping thats a huge help id actually prefer to do some render painting, i didnt really want to go and ruin a perfectly good panel lift door, but something needed doing. i could whip that up in a weekend would it be considered odd to have the house done in two different colours like that? i think it looks good but wouldnt want to do something weird. Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 13Jan 10, 2010 12:16 pm Salt&PepperMkII - the door appears to be white already little buddy maybe that darker colour could go around the fascias too. Might continue and balance it on the right hand side of the house. I played around with that option little buddy, here is the result: In my opinion the fascia-darkening only serves to lower the apparent height of the roof, rather than balance out the dark/light. After some more playing around I came across the idea of just changing the colour of the internal blinds (easier than painting and maintaining fascia). Dark blinds and dark garage Dark blinds and dark garage render Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 14Jan 10, 2010 12:19 pm just for info purposes: the feature colour on the entry is jasper as is the roof, the roof just never really looks dark enough, i guess due to the sun and angles etc. if the roof was dark it wouldnt look so bad but it just isnt that way Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 16Jan 10, 2010 12:25 pm Salt&PepperMkII No... at the moment the garage door is Dune. Try white? Ahh roger that - I thought it was just the overcast day making the "white" door look a little dark Here you go! Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 17Jan 10, 2010 12:35 pm could i get you to make an image with the blinds as they are in white, and darken the garage surround pretty please? DW LOVES white blinds so they'll be staying. Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Things nearly done. Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 18Jan 10, 2010 12:38 pm My first post has a version like that, with the only thing changed from your original picture being the garage render made darker Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 19Jan 10, 2010 12:41 pm The white door simply.. works. \ Complements the windows and blinds... not too much brown too. I dont think a dark render around the garage will look good.. doesnt look balanced. Re: Advice on colours for front of house, not 100% happy 20Jan 10, 2010 12:42 pm i got version confused, now that we've started talking about it we like the idea of painting something and not touching the roller door. id give both front sections a try in the darker colour but DW isnt keen, reckon you could do up a jasper on both front sections view?
