Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 27, 2009 12:03 pm Why is this so hard? Renovating a terrace house with kitchen on open plan living. Plan was to keep house "white" but struggling with which white and thinking of working in burnt orange as feature colour. Floors - Blackbutt Doors & windows - Stained timber Thinking of painting same white throughout as house is narrow and looking at Whisper White or Antique White - First question would you do ceiling and skirtings true white or are these two shades light enough to go for uniform on everything? Moving on to kitchen.... Interior Benchtops - stainless steel Appliances and kickboards - stainless steel Splashback - Thinking burnt orange glass (similar to Decoglaze "Tuscany") Cabinets ? Island benchtop - prob some sort engineered stone ? Island backing (which faces living room) ? I have two ideas: 1. Cabinets same white as walls + Caesarstone Snow on island + island bar back same white as walls, letting orange and stainless steel be the only colour. Bit worried will be too white. Would it help to go a shade "less white" than walls? or 2. Cabinets a deeper neutral such as Hogs Bristle + Caesarstone Mink on island + island bar back Hogs Bristle, trying to get same depth of colour on island benchtop as the stainless steel. Any thoughts? I spent many hours dreaming about this kitchen. I LOVE the orange. Don't you? Not sure how the Orange will go with the less than white walls? I wonder if it should be a CRISP white? I think it needs to be pure to carry the Orange, but that's just my opinion. edited. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 4Dec 28, 2009 2:44 pm I agree Macy, I WANT this kitchen but I am not going to do it. I will get a Cappucinoey colour splashback instead (I am just a big chicken). I would love to be so brave to do that orange though. I equally like the dark red. Oh well.... www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 7Dec 28, 2009 10:46 pm themax has theidea. But I have also seen the orange / red feature colour worked in with beige - hence the dithering.... I must say I have trouble moving from the motivational pictures to the specifics. The picture shows orange and white and beige benchtop + dark wood. Any idea on the source of the glass/shade of orange and what sort/colour benchtop they have put with it? The photo also seems to be using an offwhite rather than crisp white, but that might just be my screen. I am living in the country miles away from showrooms and reduced to working with *** internet renditions of colour samples. For example I would really like to use corian rather than caesarstone but have seen almost no samples in the flesh. I don't even know how glass woks - do you buy from a glass supplier who has a range of colours, or do you simply choose a paint colour and get the glass painted? But thanks for the general feedback on the direction Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 8Dec 29, 2009 6:59 am Dithering, (Welcome to HomeOne by the way ). It looks to me like they have used a Laminex product on the benchtops? I can see the lines. There are a few Laminex experts on here, someone will tell you what type it is. (at first I thought it was C/stone) For the splashback you need to go to a glass splashback company (or glass product supplier that does splashbacks) and you look at the samples and choose a colour. You can usually choose any paint colour depending on which paint company the glass co. use. You MUST also ask about the glass. You will pay extra for STARFIRE glass, which is totally totally clear of green tinge which is present in normal glass. (If you turn a glass coaster on it's side you will see the green) This green tinge, will show through to SOME colours and will affect the final result. There are 3 grades of glass regarding this so you MUST ask them regarding price and samples. It could make a difference depending on your colour choice. If you call some companies they may be kind enough to send you out some samples. You could check out the paint charts and choose a colour and then ask them if they do that colour. WHen you are ready to choose/buy/install you need to get them to measure and quote, then they will install AFTER the kitchen is done. We actually have to have our rangehood removed for the splashback installation and then replaced. As for the Corian I would be asking them to send you samples. My C/stone came in a thin sliver sample and it's really helpful when choosing. I thought the walls were a pretty crisp white, but maybe not? Hope that helps a bit. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 9Dec 29, 2009 7:29 am Whilst on holiday, I can only give advice, as I don’t have my paint samples with me, I’ll pop back in later and take a better look at your post. I need all my colours around me. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 11Jan 01, 2010 10:02 pm It would be great if you could help with specific colours. The following elements are already settled Floor - Blackbutt Appliances - stainless steel (inc fridge) Benchtop (interior L-shaped) - stainless steel Taking one suggestion that was posted, I have now ordered samples from Corian in Linen, White Jasmine and Canvas but could use something different (they will only send three samples....) Also looking at a posted suggestion, will make sure we go for Starfire glass so assuming I will be pretty much be able to match any colour. So here is where I am at..... Walls - Antique White?? Splashback (L shaped) - orange colour similar to Dulux Bright Delight Cabinets - same white as walls or maybe a little more colour? Island Benchtop - Corian but which colour? White like cabinets or something closer to the colour of stainless steel? Island Barback - same as cabinets? I can change the white selection to something that works better with the orange (also considering Natural White or Whisper White) but this is the colour I want to use throughout the house so it needs to be pale. What about half-strength Antique White for walls but leave the cabinets Antique White. Thoughts appreciated, realise I am pretty close to settling and maybe this forum is not really the venue for such specific help..... Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 12Jan 06, 2010 11:22 am I need time to look over your post….its going to take me a while; you have a lot in there. I’ll get to as soon as I can. Unless you can give me a short version? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 13Jan 08, 2010 10:36 am Hi - sorry to be needy, will try and shorten the request and remove some of the options....If it is too much to ask, then please just let me know. The house is under construction so no chance to test sample pots etc Floorboards - Blackbutt L-shaped benchtop & appliances inc fridge - stainless steel Kick-boards - aluminium Glass Splashback - orange similar to Bright Delight Walls/bulkhead above cupboards - off white, but which one? Cupboards - off white, but which one? Island benchtop - Corian white/offwhite, but which one, and should I go plain or speckled? Island bar-back - same white as cupboards So essentially, just looking for recommendations for off-whites (walls, cupboards and corian) that will work well with the orange, the stainless steel and the Blackbutt. This kitchen comes off open plan with large north-facing bi-folds so should get a lot of light. I want to use same wall white throughout the house and all other rooms will be quite dark. Ta Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 14Jan 08, 2010 3:17 pm Orange ....fantastic - we are toying with it..... If you are looking for just your benchtop - cupboard colour - paint, maybe find two white corians you like then the cupboard colour then the wall colour. We are having similar colours and all our paint is in dulux whisper white - which is a great match to laminex's white and we are having torino (quantum quartz tops) You will have to get some samples and try some combos. Have fun and can't wait to see it. Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 15Jan 09, 2010 6:20 am Dithering…I’ve just spent 20 minutes in Imageshack trying to post some pics for you. But they have changed the look of the site, I’m lost for now in there. So I’ll start anyway and see if I can master the site later. I love the orange! Walls – Antique White USA Corian – Savannah What are the cupboards going to be laminate or 2 Pack? The Corian Savannah will work beautifully with your timber floor and goes really well with the Antique White USA Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 16Jan 09, 2010 10:15 pm Thanks for the advice. Have contacted the good people at Corian to see if they will send me Savannah sample. Seems like it is similar to Bluesteel's Torino... Cupboards will be 2-pack - would it work to use Antique White on cupboards as well as walls or should I go a different colour? What about ceiling - should I revert to white or just go Antique White all over? Not sure what kind of attachments you were thinking of posting, but would like to see them. At this stage I cannot even copy a dulux colour sample onto a document.... Re: Burnt Orange accent colour 17Jan 11, 2010 12:09 pm Yes I would like to see the cupboards the same colour as your walls. This gives the burnt orange room to be even more dominate in the room. Ceilings can be either Antique White or ceiling white. Antique White is light enough to have it right through your house on everything, like I have done with my house and my colour. I was going to attach the orange colour from Decoglaze, but now after looking at their site, I can’t copy photos off it and I don’t see the Tuscany.
