It gives me some brilliant ideas (& I would also love to hear Michelles suggestions when/if she gets a chance). Thanks so much, it is really so very much appreciated as I am not good with colour at all and your kitchens look fantastic. I'm looking for appliances on a budget now. This is NOT fun at all as every sales person I chat to has a different opinion very frustrating www.crittercottage.blogspot.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 22Jan 11, 2010 8:04 am Very Nice!!!! Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 25Jan 11, 2010 11:54 am rachaelc Hi Michelle & SueH Finally got bubs to bed so I could reply to you all Thanks for your replies. SueH yes I was thinking that a light or white look would be best as I have dark furniture and it can get a bit dark as the room is south facing - if the sun isn't shining. I will have a look at your kitchen for some ideas too - thanks. Michelle here are the pics as requested. They have come out a bit dark looking - but you get the idea This is the actual kitchen. In my plan it will pretty much stay the same, however there will be a corner wall cabinet and the fridge will be moved right down to the door (garbage bins to be hidden) & have an overhead cabinet etc. The benchtop will move down a bit too (to fit a dishwasher) and we wont have a "breakfast bar" type hangover thing. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Currently the whole room is painted Cream - Alabaster, including the kitchen (except feature wall). I like it but kind of feel it may be a bit dated looking now?? This may be because I have had Cream walls for the past 15 years in the 2 houses I have been in LOL so I am happy to change this if you think it will make a good change but also happy to keep it too (Greg would like that so he doesn't have to repaint ). The man at Mr Ply & Wood today recommended these doors to me as they were fairly inexpensive, great for families with children and have 12yr warranty. He says the kitchen will still look great in 10 years if I get these - very durable. They are called Laminex Contour Finedge doors and come in about 68 colours. Here is a link http://www.laminex.com.au - it under Brands & Samples. Then, he pointed to a wall of Laminex square which he said could be benchtops - (which was a bit overwhelming) but I would like a caesar stone type look (but in Laminex of course - the cheap one too not the exy one - ah budgets!!). I did like the look of these doors. They didn't look too cheap and nasty at all. Anyway, I hope that helps a bit and look forward to your response. Thank you so much for this, it is very much appreciated. Regards Rachael Rach, sorry for taking so long to get back to you, kick starting myself after my holidays! Kitchen has wall and floor cabinets Polished floorboards (pine) Walls currently cream (Wattyl Alabaster I think) - happy to change this Lounge - chocolate brown suede look furniture - wood (dark stain) feature wall - Wattyl Pepper I think??? kind of a dark green/grey - can be changed (is possibly a bit darkish for the room really but nice colour) So lets get started……what colour is that feature wall colour on the side wall of entry to your kitchen? Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 26Jan 11, 2010 1:09 pm Hi Michelle No problems at all. I am back at work this week and finding it hard to get motivated. I am fairly sure the colour is called Pepper and I think it is a Wattyl colour (just went to look at the paints but we have none left). It is a green/grey colour (I think??)-. Sorry hard to explain and I can't seem to find the colour on any website. I went and had a look at some samples today after looking at what others have done. Got this an an option - I'm not 100% sure or anything Laminex Oyster Linea as the upper cabinets Laminex Parchment (whiteish) as the lower cabinets /OR/ Laminex Pumice (brownish) Laminex Sand Pebble as the benchtop Very interested in what your suggestions would be Michelle, Just when you get a chance though - thanks so much. Rachael www.crittercottage.blogspot.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 27Jan 11, 2010 1:48 pm I have the Pepper here in my Wattyl fan deck….nice colour! I’m using the Oyster Linea in my kitchen when I finally get it done, along with the Mushroom Linea. I’ve just looked on the Laminex website, they don’t have Parchment up. I hope it’s not discontinued and I see a couple of new ones. Not that I would know, since my rep has left and I don’t have a book update! I’m happy with your selection, I have them in front of me along with the pepper paint, the Oyster Linea will look great with the Pepper wall! YAY for finding the Pepper colour. I like it!! Glad it will go with the Oyser Linea (I put it up and it looked good but I dont really have an eye for it so wasn't sure). Ok, the Parchment is on the laminex site under CONTOUR DOORS - scroll down to P and it is there in between Paper Bark & Pearl Grey. It is a white colour, not stark white but more like a light cream white or an off white. Ohhh I love the Mushroom Linea too but think it may be a bit too dark for my kitchen. Can't wait to see your reno of the kitchen when you do that!!! So do you think that I have got the colours right? The white down the bottom and the "feature" cupboards up the top (Oyster Linea). Where the bench faces out to the lounge room (like the breakfast bar bit), on that face I was going to put Oyster Linea to tie it all in together. So all cupboards will be Parchment facing into the kitchen but that bit facing out will be Oyster Linea down the bottom. If anyone thinks this is a BAD idea please let me know - I take no offence at any suggestions or if you think my ideas are BAD LOL. Do you think it looks ok with the Alabaster paint (cream). To me it looks fine, but as I said - Im not really very good at this. Will I have a "classic" kitchen colour scheme that won't date in 2 years!!!!????? I think I might!!! Laminex Oyster Linea top cupboards and breakfast bar face out to lounge Laminex Sand Pebble benchtop Laminex Parchment bottom cupboards ONE MORE question (sorry) - what colour splashback???? We will probably have tiles, unless I win lotto and we can get the glass. An off white to go with the parchment with possibly a feature strip to go with the Oyster Linea??? Or something darker??? If we do get the glass, what would you suggest - dark or light colour?? (oh anyone got any inexpensive suggestions for splashbacks - electric cooktop) Thank you so very much for all your help, and thank you to everyone else for their fantastic suggestions and for a look at their beautiful kitchens. It is a white colour, not stark white but more like a light cream white or an off white. I have parchment in my folder, just couldn’t find it to post it, thanks for finding it on their site. I’m finding all the websites now very time consuming to brows. Yes I’d like to see the Oyster up top, were back to that pepper wall again, the pepper wall and the oyster…..nice. Where the bench faces out to the lounge room (like the breakfast bar bit), on that face I was going to put Oyster Linea to tie it all in together. So all cupboards will be Parchment facing into the kitchen but that bit facing out will be Oyster Linea down the bottom. OK….get a 3D print out of your kitchen from the guys who are making it. Post the 3D and I’ll have a look at it for you, we might be able to do some cupboards and draws in the Oyster below or some parchment up top, then I’ll be able to see what to do with the front. Do you think it looks ok with the Alabaster paint (cream). To me it looks fine, but as I said - Im not really very good at this. Yes looks ok. Will I have a "classic" kitchen colour scheme that won't date in 2 years!!!!????? I think I might!!! I hate to give you the burden on this, but unless you do all white, your kitchen will date tomorrow…… and that’s just how it is. Don’t worry about, and who cares, have what you like don’t worry about it dating. Everything dates, then it comes back again. Regards Rachael www.crittercottage.blogspot.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 31Jan 19, 2010 8:16 pm Hi everyone I just wrote a HUGE post and lost it grrrrr Anyway, in a very short nutshell I have been able to secure a very good price on a Polyurethene (sp??) kitchen, so we are going with that. If anyone could spare some time to give some suggestions to the colour and style challenged ME, I would very much appreciate it!!! All suggestions/advice much appreciated as well as any critical feedback!!! The decisions to be made are: Colour/s - I can have any Dulux colour I like. At the moment I am considering gloss white (the most popular). It is quite stark, but looks nice and as Michelle says, it won't date. Any suggestions for alternatives appreciated or what you have ideas welcome. Benchtop - I still like the Sand Pebble in Laminex which is a sort of white/granite look type. Greg my hubby likes a white kitchen with a black benchtop. What do others think or any suggestions about what looks good??? It is a 40mm Laminex benchtop - Square edge Handles - We can have SS handles (nice ones) or can go no handle look. Greg likes the no handle look and so do I but I also like handles too. What works best with a family kitchen?? It will not be a show piece but a functional family kitchen that will get a lot of use. Advice sought!!! Would love to hear your thoughts. Regards Rachael www.crittercottage.blogspot.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 32Jan 21, 2010 8:55 pm I'm going with white polyurethane in gloss for the cabinets. I haven't decided on the benchtop or splashback colours yet. I also love the look of no handles and just the shadow line but decided at the last minute to have handles. My kitchen will have 2 corner cabinets with bi-fold doors so I thought it might be annoying to open them by pulling them from the top then grabbing the doors by the sides (if that makes sense?). I was also worried about constantly wiping dirty fingerprints off the gloss. I will however only have handles on the bottom cabinets and no handles on the wall cabinets. That way I can still try to achieve a streamlined look. Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 33Jan 21, 2010 9:12 pm Another here going with handles on the bottom, and not on the top. The white gloss sounds very nice! I looked at the Sand Pebble in the brochure I have here... I like it better than black with your other room colours.... sorry DH Also love the browny ones (like Stipple Seal, Quicksand and Magma) and Basalt (more grey). Think they would look great with that Pepper wall and brown lounge. That is my (very un) educated opinion! buzz Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 34Jan 27, 2010 10:38 pm I just found and was playing around on this site this evening: http://www.studiom.com.au/envisage In just a few minutes I was able to mock up a rough idea for a kitchen scheme for the house we are building: http://yfrog.com/0n37280291j I'm sure there must be other sites that do something similar. I thought it was quite handy as a starting point. Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 35Feb 01, 2010 10:15 am Hi everyone Thanks for the reply's - ohh its hard to pick isn't it!!! Ok, we have decided to go with the no handle look because, if we then decided that it is not working, it is easier to add handles at a later date. You can't go back if you decide not to have them once they are in. We checked out kitchens with no handles and with handles and Greg liked the no handle look the best. Benchtop colour is my nightmare!!! If we were having stone I have picked out what I want but of course we can't afford stone. The nearest look is Laminex Pure Mineralstone Diamondgloss Finish. It is a white stone look. The problem is that the kitchen place & the installer have both said it scratches fairly easily!!! Is this true??? I would love to hear from others who have the diamondgloss in a kitchen that is used a lot. Is it a problem for you?? The next pick is Laminex Natural Quartz (not a gloss). It is more of a brown/yellow/cream colour (like Sand Pebble) however it is not as busy or as yellow as Sand Pebble. It will go nicely with the walls. OR Laminex Blanc Stone - this also looks nice with the walls too. Any feeback on these colours??? www.crittercottage.blogspot.com Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 36Mar 01, 2010 8:17 pm jodge Hello again Rachael! We're having stipple seal in our laundry! If you want to see some in real life there's a setup on our kitchen manufacturer's little showroom. . . they're called Cobbitty Grove Kitchens and are in Narellan (check their opening hours though, as they may only be open Monday to Friday). . . We were just going to have plain old white in the laundry, but I saw the display when we went to choose the colours and had to have it. . . maybe I'll regret it in 10 years? Kinda like an avocado bathroom? We'll see, it's already getting made, so no time to change! Hi, How does the laundry look? Was considering stipple seal for our kitchen. Would love pics if you have any available. Re: Classic kitchen colour scheme ideas 37Mar 02, 2010 5:47 am sunshinexxx jodge Hello again Rachael! We're having stipple seal in our laundry! I thought it was quite handy as a starting point. wow bob, nice kitchen..that would go well with your kitchen Rachael (click the yfrog thing) White tops and dark oak b/b. Nice....(I am off to have a play too) I am thinking gloss white cupboards/ carcass and I too would like stone but cant afford it, so will replace the dark oak on this island and do it as a 10 cm thick BB bench and gloss white on the 4 sides of the island. My reasoning..(cos I was going to have a white gloss bench but I too heard it scratches easily,) is that for square edge laminex you glue the strips on to the bench if you are having very thick benches..so you see the black lines where they join it ..so a darker colour will at least hide the joins..a bit. I dont want people to think I am trying to do wood, but becasue it is so thick, that is the feature... a bit of wow and we can play 'where are the joins!' as I am not doing a waterfall edge (as I want a bench that about 600mm at the end there are no cupboards, just this thick bench and an empty space below it and 3 stools you can push under and out the way, rather than down one side..) dont worry it looks great in my head! might not in real life..ha ha nicky ps just played with that kitchen link above..and the 'entertainer kitchen' is kind of what I saw in my head! with a dark bench and white cupboards. good link bob thanks http://www.laminex.com.au/controls/prod ...
