Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 02, 2010 11:34 am Just thinking ahead to when we can afford window furnishings for the house we're building... Love the look of white timber venetians (or plantation shutters if we can afford them) but would they look odd with a roman blind over the top of the window frame? I prefer the look of a roman blind inside the window frame but with venetians/shutters there may not be enough room to fit both. Roman blinds on their own look great but if you want subtle privacy/shading during the day they're either open and expose the room, or they're blocking out all light. And net curtaining would not be the simple/classic look we're after if it were combined with romans or venetians. Roller blinds = too modern for our house. Need the option of total blockout of light with 2 year old and future baby number 2. What would you do - both, or one or the other? Any other suggestions? Re: Timber venetians/or plantation shutters with roman blind? 2Jan 02, 2010 12:01 pm I suppose everyone has their own opinions, and ultimately you should do what you want, but... I think roman blinds on top of wooden shutters, of any sort is a bit too much - a bit too heavy if you will. I suppose it also depends on the size of the window, but plantation shutters look very heavy on their own (one reason why we've decided NOT to go with plantations). In some of the M3tr!con show homes, they've got full length drapes over their venetians - I thought that looked pretty nice to be honest. Curtains over white timber venetians is what I also had in mind in the bedrooms. Maybe just the venetians OR romans over living areas. Re: Timber venetians/or plantation shutters with roman blind? 4Jan 03, 2010 1:15 pm I tried to reply yesterday, but the forum wasn't playing nice. Romans over shutters or venetians can look fantastic - if you can't recess your blinds, you won't be able to do it though, so it'll depend on the design of the window.
