Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jan 01, 2010 10:02 pm Hi, I'm new to this forum so I hope I'm not repeating an old question! I'm trying to decide what colour to paint my walls in my lounge, dining and kitchen (open plan). We've got shutters on our windows which are in Antique white USA and the trim around the windows is also in Antique White USA (in a semi gloss). Our floorboards are just a pine board. I like the look of Chalk USA as I've just done a little sample section on my walls with this. It's quite a nice light but warm colour. I just don't know if this is too similar to Antique White or if it's the wrong shade of white to have next to each other? Will they look good? Also, I was originally going to paint the ceiling in Ceiling White (untinted) because we have white downlights so I thought this would blend in nicely. But I don't know if I should do the Antique White on the ceiling as well? The other sample I did was in Bone White which I also like but not sure if it'll be too dark when the whole room is done in this colour. I've been agonising over this for months now! A friend has just had her house painted in Hog Bristle but this isn't the tone of colour I was going for, even though I do love it! Thanks in advance for your help Re: wall colour to use with antique white usa trim 2Jan 02, 2010 10:58 am welcome pinkpeko, i'm not going to be of any help really, because i'm planning on going the Antique white USA trims, doors, etc with hog bristle 1/2 walls. But am really keen to hear what others think about the ceiling colour. I'll have white downlights too - and was planning on using the Antique white on the ceiling but wasn't sure if it would be better to go ceiling white. Love to know what other people have done. (otherwise i'll go down the hardware store and buy a down light, paint up a sample on some spare plaster board and let you know how i go!) Re: wall colour to use with antique white usa trim 3Jan 03, 2010 7:03 pm here are a couple of photos i took today. photo colours are always a little hard, but i thought i would share them anyway. http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/2024/img2696c.jpg http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/1668/img2697r.jpg Colour on the right is Antique White USA - I painted a piece of plasterboard with undercoat, then two coats of Antique White Colour on the left is just my wall. It has one coat of undercoat on it. (The room i took the photo in was a bedroom with one window and no lights are on.) p.s. let me know if the photos don't work as this was my first photo post Re: wall colour to use with antique white usa trim 4Jan 04, 2010 7:52 pm Of course everyone's interpretation of 'great' differs, but.....here's our combo. We also have white down lights. Ceiling white with USA Antique walls, trims the same but in enamel higloss. Floors will be blackbutt in satin finish. Our place is open plan, & we love the 'clean'look. Good luck with your choices., HH Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: wall colour to use with antique white usa trim 5Jan 04, 2010 8:54 pm hi - thanks for your replies those photos look really good little buddy! i don't think it looks wrong at all. in fact i think i've decided to get my ceiling paint tinted now. i don't think i want the contrast of bright white next to the creamy coloured walls. the friend of mine who did use hog bristle on the walls used plain ceiling white on the ceiling and it looks good. i think it goes nicely because the hog bristle isn't creamy at all. she doesn't have downlights, she has pendant light fittings which are white. all looks very classy! thanks again for your help! 7 3083 Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable. The large tile on the left was used in my main bathroom renovation 1 year ago. My ensuite… 0 8642 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 18114 |
