Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 23, 2009 9:27 am We have chosen floor tiles for our house that are called "Torrino Coffee", and they are pretty much a latte kind of colour but under certain lights in the shop they threw a little bit of green. I want to pick a wall colour that is not going to pick this green/grey up, something that makes the tiles look more brown. Our cupboards/vanities are "chocolate pear" with ceasarstone "ice snow" benchtops. I have been looking at Hogs Bristle (not sure what strength? maybe 1/2??) but just not sure if that will pick up the green or not. Can you recommend another "warm white" colour that would work better? Also, what would be a suitable white complimentary colour for the trimmings? Many Thanks Re: I need a white wall colour that wont pick up any green 2Dec 23, 2009 2:01 pm I did my trims in White Smoke (Bristol), not sure about the green though. It's a nice white, not to bright, not too warm. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: I need a white wall colour that wont pick up any green 3Dec 23, 2009 2:21 pm This is always a tricky situation…. First of all, take the colours home (even if it's not to the house it’s going to go in) and try it under different lighting conditions. The best thing to do is to actually stick the sample (hopefully a decent sized one) up on a wall and ‘live’ with it for a few days, look at it at all times of the day. Even move it from room to room. Make sure you can put the tile right next to the colour sample. A more technical way of choosing a colour that won’t throw off a green is to check what tinters go into the making of the colour. If the colour is made up of any combination that used black and yellow together will most of the time seem green, pick a colour that uses umber instead of the black. This is not a rule that will work all the time, but it’s a simple way of being able to tell how green a colour will ‘appear’. I hope this is of some help. As for your trim, do you want to go lighter on the trim or darker that your walls? I can only get a sample card which has got the 3 shades of Hogs Bristle on it. It looks ok next to the tile but were only looking at a tiny square of it so its hard to say. I might need to get a sample pot and paint some cardboard! Does anybody already know what the Hogs Bristle tinters are? Oh and we want to go lighter on the trims. Ive picked up an Antique White USA card and I think its going to be ok. Thanks! Re: I need a white wall colour that wont pick up any green 5Dec 24, 2009 9:03 am suenmatt I might need to get a sample pot and paint some cardboard! This is a great idea, however, do at least 3 coats, cardboard and paper actually absorb the colour and you don’t get a true representation of the colour, however, if you do 3 coats and let it dry properly between coats it will be more accurate. Also, make the brush out as big as you can. suenmatt Does anybody already know what the Hogs Bristle tinters are? Depends on what brand of paint you are buying, all manufactures have their own formulas, so you can buy Wattyl paint but have it tinted to Hog Bristle, or buy Taubmans paint and have it tinted to Hog Bristle and they will both use different combinations of tints, so check with your paint shop. suenmatt Oh and we want to go lighter on the trims. Ive picked up an Antique White USA card and I think its going to be ok. A good combination, just with the Hog Bristle, do you know what strength you might do, I would recommend ¼ strength, otherwise it starts getting too dark, however, sometimes the darker versions might work just as well, it really depends on the lighting in the house. After hundreds of testpots ( ok, only 9) and weeks of searching I thought I had found a very neutral white. It went up on the walls and it was YELLOW. My parents recently painted their house Antique White which at the time I thought was soooo boring, but thats what we ended up changing to. All the display houses I have seen use Antique White because it is a white that compliments any theme and goes with any feature wall. Wish I had saved the trouble and listened to my parents Re: I need a white wall colour that wont pick up any green 7Jan 01, 2010 9:07 pm Hi! I was after the same thing...I ended up painting my whole house in half strength winnow. I get a lot of compliments on it. Full strength was too deep and too close to my feature wall colour. Feature wall is painted in Raw Cashew nut...plus a bit of white added and its gorgeous!! Re: I need a white wall colour that wont pick up any green 8Jan 03, 2010 6:05 pm Hi All Ok so ive done the sample pot thing with full strength Hogs Bristle. I stuck it up against our kitchen cupboards and I think its a bit too "yellow" toned. So now im at a loss..... Maybe 1/4 strength would be better? Opal88, I tried to find a colour card for Winnow but no luck. Is it Dulux? Ive attached some pics of our kitchen so you can see the colours im talking about.
