Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 17, 2009 10:37 pm Hi everyone, I'm now thinking ahead for when I start to get things for my house. I have all the colours picked out for the walls etc and my kitchen sorted. But, what do I put with it all??? I'm not buying a lot because of a zero budget lol But I do need to get a dining table and chairs and also the light covers for the kitchen and dining area. A reminder of what I am having Lower cupboards - lusteous Elm Benchtop - cocoa sand (white with fleck) glass splashback - harbour (light blue) Walls - Wattyl Flokati Trims - Wattyl Purest White Floor tile - probably a light grey colour (matt) I can't get into all my pics on photobucket for some reason I can't log in. I have a pic on here somewhere of the colours. Should I go a black dining table & chairs to contrast? Or maybe a wood table?? I was thinking maybe I would go for 3 black pendant lights over the bench to tie it in. If I do go the black option, can I put a wood cupboard in the same room?? I have a nice cupboard that I've had for a few years and I don't want to get rid of it. And I paid to much for it to paint it. What does everyone think?? I'm worried that I have to many light colours in my kitchen/meals area. Or should I go a different colour altogether? Thanks Re: Should I go black furniture? 2Dec 17, 2009 10:59 pm Do you need/want to decide now? because if you are not in a rush, then I suggest waiting until you move in. Then you can get a proper feel for how the colours look in the room and the amount of natural light etc. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I'd need to put it on layby I won't have any dining chairs to move with.... I'm glad my dad can't read this, cause the 2nd hand chairs he got me (very old 70 style swivel chairs in a baby puke colour) are not coming anywhere near my new house lol Re: Should I go black furniture? 4Dec 17, 2009 11:42 pm I quite like the sound of the black dining chairs frogger Don't tell anyone, but i'm actually seriously considering getting a black leather lounge for my new place... viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! I have this awful 3 seater cream faux seude lounge that has marks all over it!!! Never again will I get a cream faux seude lounge!!! I have a habit of washing my hair and then I'll go out and watch a bit of TV...well the wet hair on the back of the lounge dries a an awful water mark doesn't it. Now I can't rid of it lol I say go for it lol Re: Should I go black furniture? 6Dec 18, 2009 9:40 am hey frogger, we're having lustrous elm cupboards and grey tiles/carpet too. We have teak coloured tv cabinet, cofeee tables, and dining setting. We think we'll get a black or charcoal/black leather lounge and I'll probably cover the seats of the dining setting in grey to match the lusty elm because the dining setting is right in front of the island bench. A couple of us were talking about black couches yesterday- they look best when they have that matte finish, the shiny ones can look a bit ultra modern IMO. I'm a fan of neutral colours for all large/expensive furniture because then accessories like throws, cushions, vases can be changed and give you a different look. Re: Should I go black furniture? 8Dec 18, 2009 1:05 pm Thanks everyone For appliance etc... I had always wanted to get red pots and pans etc... but with the blue splashback I don't think I can do that now. So I'm thinking if I use black on the dining table/chairs and the pendant lights, then I could start getting the black & silver (stainless steel look). I hope I'm on the right track, because I've told everyone if they are getting me small appliances for christmas or for my b/day when that comes around I want the black & silver ones lol What is your opinion on the black tables that have the glass insert. Do you like the look of them? Or should I just go a solid black table? Felistopher: A couple of us were talking about black couches yesterday- they look best when they have that matte finish, the shiny ones can look a bit ultra modern IMOcolor Yep I totally agree, I'm not a big fan of gloss. I'm having matt floor tiles and semi gloss paint on the trims...so I tend to stay away from full gloss SuH: I like the idea of black too Frogger, especially on a nice grey tile, it would look very modern. I have a black leather lounge and it's gorgeous, gets a bit dusty though. I wish I knew what colour carpet I was having. I might go look at the colour range I'm allowed on Monday if they are open. I can handle dust at least the leather would be easy to wipe down. This fabric lounge I have now, as nice as it was when I 1st bought got it, it looks awful now. I wish I could afford to buy a new lounge suite After I'm in the house, depending on how I go budgetting from pay packet to pay packet I might look into getting a suite on credit. THat's what I do. Personally I think the black would look lovely. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Should I go black furniture? 11Dec 18, 2009 5:55 pm Michelle Any colour will work with your chosen selections. I’ve done black in the past, yes dusty, but always looks special. Yeah black has that nice sleek look, I've never really owned anything black. Its the only thing that I could think of that would go well with the blue splashback. Can't think of anything else that I could really put with it other than black, white, silver, brown. But then again I don't have much of an imagination lol themax Frogger, could you put the same amount of money that you would pay on your layby aside, and then you will be able to go and buy it outright when your house is built? THat's what I do. Personally I think the black would look lovely. I'd like to, but I'd probably never get it lol There is always some bill to pay that I would use the money on. I'll see how I'm going at the end of the build. I know I'm due back $2500 from the builder for rock that they didn't find....well I better get back my $2500!!! So there might be my lounge...or my deck...or my screens lol Re: Should I go black furniture? 12Dec 18, 2009 6:04 pm Frogger Michelle Any colour will work with your chosen selections. White or bright colors tend to get dirty faster than black. I once had white table and it's now full with my children drawings too and also, black is mostly match with other color too. Well, that's my opinion though.
Re: Should I go black furniture? 14Dec 21, 2009 3:17 pm I love black furniture and will be on the look out for a black dining table and chairs to mmmm and a new tv unit. So my vote is yes go the black furniture! Re: Should I go black furniture? 15Dec 21, 2009 10:35 pm Our new furniture is black, grey and silver. Looks great with our charcoal carpet. I have gone for a lighter dining room table though, (this one http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/90161729), because we have my Mum's cream leather lounge suite in the lounge room next to the dining room. I've also got a similar coloured round table and chairs in the meals area. It all goes. I'll take some pics tomorrow if you want to see some examples.
