Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 17, 2009 3:45 pm We are really stuck at the moment with the colour of the garage door. The colour has changed so many times already and it's driving us nuts. Our thoughts are Surfmist or Shale Grey. Shale Grey may be too grey but as a roof colour it looks very stark (never seen it on a garage I don't think). Surfmist may be too white for our facade. To give you an idea we have a vic blue garage. My thoughts are swaying towards Shale Grey BUT ideally we probably need Anotec Silver Grey. I'm wondering though if garage doors only come in the 'colourbond' range of colours or if we have Anotec Silver Grey do we need to get it powder coated to have this colur. Any help would be much appreciated. I don't think we want to match the garage door to the bricks-we don't want it all dark. Would love to hear suggestions/photos. Thank you. Re: Garage door colour? 2Dec 17, 2009 4:09 pm Dollar have you checked with the supplier of your garage door? Our builder used Steel Line which meant that I could go onto their website and see what options there were available. That was when we finally decided to use the Decrowood for both the windows and the garages on the facade - the builder had never even discussed them as an option previously to us. Once we did this I phoned and got a price comparison - retail - which then helped me to negotiate with the builder. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Garage door colour? 3Dec 17, 2009 4:13 pm Oh thanks, no we haven't yet. Good thought. I'll find out. Decrowood may be an option for us but not sure. Really need to have a look which I think we'll do on the weekend. Re: Garage door colour? 4Dec 17, 2009 6:59 pm Yes best option is to see what is available in colours first. Not ALL Colorbond colours are available, do your research first, then come back. A photo or a elevation would be good to look at as well. Shale grey really matches our windows to a tea BUT then that leaves the portico colour with the pole colour and the front door colour....eeekkk! Initially we thought maybe a Russet colour maybe a dijon mustard colour? Geez we are a bit lost. The door area already is the focus area of the house due to the the vertical bricks. The other question I was wondering about Michelle, is do you have those colour charts on hand to flick through when you get colour questions or is it all just in you head and from experience that you know of the various colours etc. Re: Garage door colour? 11Dec 21, 2009 8:00 am Im no good at colours so not much heelp but in another thread you said you thought shale grey was an eyesore so not sure why you would want to use it on your house. Im sure Michelle will have a good option for you. ""Dollar Post subject: Re: What colour roof with PGH Espresso brick?Posted: Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:00 pm Silver Member Joined: 14 Oct 2009 Posts: 325 I would go with Surfmist. I think Shale Grey is an eyesore. To shed a bit of light on the brick situation.....we chose smooth face bricks and vic Blue bricks (knowing the possibility of fractures/defects and so on). The Vic Blue ones seem like they are painted on but we knew that when we were looking. As a result of our bricks choices....from all the palettes (no smooth face ones were chipped) nor were our other bricks. Vic blue ones however-probably about 10 or so from what we could see from the palettes had some minor chips. As it has been said before. If the builder has good brickies, they should be able to discard/use the ones with defects for less obvious areas. The same goes for palettes that have slight variations in the colour tones. A good brickie will always be able to spread the tones out for a more even look. Same goes with timber floors." Re: Garage door colour? 12Dec 21, 2009 12:17 pm I've seen Shale Grey on a roof and it does look very stark. I think the Garage may look more grey against the blue brick compared to being on the roof and having the sun beaming onto it. Shale grey matches best with the garage. We think Surfmist is far too white and we would prefer Shale Grey as this would match better. We have been thinking about Dune which we think is a nice colour and it is probably a tinge darker than the windows. .....or do we go with a darker garage door colour all together? Something to match the Vic Blue more closely? Re: Garage door colour? 13Dec 21, 2009 12:37 pm I like white mini orb, with annotec silver frame in even segments. That is the plan for my garage door!! I will have Midland Brick Seville Cream bricks and Surfmist colourbond roof.
