Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Dec 16, 2009 10:01 pm Hi everyone, I am new here and I have been in my new (old) house for 3 months. I am struggling with paint colours! Main colours throughout Internals Limed white half Ceiling /Cornice - d- white on white Walls - D- limed white half Skirting / Architrave - D- white on white Doors - D- white on white Flooring - QLD spotted gum in living areas and old white speckled carpet in bedrooms First is my bedroom. I want to paint a green feature wall to liven it up a bit. I was thinking nick's nook or maybe nicks nook half? Are there any other nice greens that aren't too over the top and bright? I was thinking to go white for the rest of the room as it is only 3.6m x 3.6m so I don't want it to look too dark. I am not sure what white to chose. I will have white on white for the trim and doors. Finding the right white is the hardest I can change the trim colour throughout the house if needed because they need more coats anyway. The bedroom suite is a dark honey brown kind of colour and it has black wrought iron. I have white sheets... I haven't got the new doona cover yet, but I have a picture in my head and it is mostly white with some green leafy applique on it. I have yellowish curtains that must go, I want to replace them with white basswood venetians when I have the money. Now... onto the girls bedrooms... The girls bedrooms will have a wall with dul@x- wonder wish... (I am a bit more adventurous in the girls rooms ) which matches one of the colours on my 3 year olds doona cover and cushions. they have white furniture and they will have black chalkboard paint on their cupboards (being adventurous again). Should I also do the same white in the girls rooms as the white I go with in my room so it has some sort of continuity? or just go with the limed white half like the rest of the house? Now onto the living areas, I also have the white on white skirtings and architraves throughout the living areas in the house with limed white half for the walls, should I change the white?... what white would go well with limed white half? I like it to stand out from the wall colour like white on white does, but while white on white looks fine against the grey, does it have a blue tinge to it? Would another white be better with these colours and still look very 'white' against the grey but still go together with the colours in the bedrooms.... Argh, sorry if this post is so confusing... I hope my choices that I can't change aren't all terrible Obviously I am need some help thank you for reading! Re: Help with colours 2Dec 16, 2009 10:21 pm Here is a pic of my 3 year olds bed if that helps at all. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The colour I have chosen matches the wing in the owl cushion and some leaves on the bed. I liked the colour. Here is my loungeroom, minus the big silverish greyish soft shag rug. I was orginally going to go reds/orange cushions/painting in this room, but now I am not too sure? Mainly as I see it hanging around colour wise for quite some time. You will be happy with it! Also, do everything in the room other than the feature wall the same white. So if you are doing the trims White on White, do ceilings and walls the same. I don’t see that here, you need to make sure its not bouncing another colour close to it, as whites will do that! White on white is what I was going to suggest, I like to see colours flow thought out a home. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I like the sound of red in this room, go for it!!! Now what RED do you want your red to be?? I will be going the nick's nook I painted a patch on the wall and I am loving the colour against the wood bed head. I am actually painting the girls rooms now. Only the chalkboard paint and the feature wall at the moment, but it should be finished this weekend. On a cooler day I will go and get the white on white paint and finish the rest (I will cover the feature wall with drop sheets)... I just need to do one more coat tonight (and maybe a third in one room.) The colour is looking so nice and it goes so well with the white furniture in the room, so I think you are definitely right about the white on white walls! It will look great. Being a bit more brave with colours pays off If you are interested, I will post photos once I get the feature walls finished. I think the girls will love it. Hmmm I don't have anything blue around the house... so the blue tinge in the white on white in some rooms must be the wood showing through then, so it will need a third coat. We did go from very dark wood to very white paint... I will have to get back to you on the red... did you have a certain red in mind? I didn't want too much, just splashes of colour around the room. I have a painting in the lounge room at the moment and it has a few different colours in it. Mostly orange, red and silver, the silver goes with my lamp and the silvery stone colour rug. I was thinking I could have some cushions with silver through it as well, or do you think it will be too matchy matchy? Anyway, back to painting I go... fun fun Re: Help with colours 11Dec 19, 2009 9:43 pm I love it! 3 year old kept looking at it when she got home from her nans, she said she liked it Here is her room, couldn't get a pic of my babies room as she was asleep. Just thought I would show you an updated photo of my 3 year olds bedroom. I haven't finished painting, but I have put up a clock, put a lamp in her room and changed some things around a bit. It makes a big difference. I still need to get some artwork for the walls. By the way, the carpet doesn't look feral like that in real life... yuck It's much lighter. I am still loving the colour too. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Help with colours 18Jan 13, 2010 2:04 pm Love it, great job!
