Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 22, 2009 8:29 pm Hi Everyone, Our house is at frame stage and the roof has been tiled....but I still have not choosen the internal colours...HELP! We are having spotted gum flooring throughout the house except there will be carpet in the bedrooms/hallway and tiles in the bathrooms, laundry and toilet. Walls will be white, the kitchen cupboards are white laminex with a white ceasarstone bench. I wanted to go for a grey/white colour scheme but could not find the right carpet as the charcoal carpet was too dark. At the moment I am considering carpet colour called 'phoenix' by Quest Carpets. It is a dark chocolate colour. I am still not completely happy with it, probably because I had imagined how the house would look with the grey colour scheme. I am completely lost with what colour tiles, laminex cupboards and benches to have in the bathroom/ensuite/laundry. Can anyone help me by posting photo's, or links to their threads, so I can get an idea of bathroom colours that may tie in with the chocolate carpet? Or do you have any ideas?? Our building supervisor wants the internal colours ASAP! Re: HELP with bathroom/ensuite/laundry selections 2Nov 22, 2009 10:04 pm Hi Amity, I'm not going with a grey /white colour scheme, but have looked over ALOT of laminate colours!! Laminex Platinum Micro is a nice grey colour - light, with a bit of texture if you look close up... have seen it recently in a friends' kitchen mixed with a nice dark laminate (Aubergine - which has been discontinued, but you could find something similar, perhaps a dark wood look). You could also try Moleskin, which is a Laminex off-white... Formica Rock Salt is a lovely textured colour with a grey tone. It may blend with browns as well... Sorry, just realised you were actually asking for chocolate colours... Perhaps check out: LAMINEX Stipple Cocoa Stipple Seal Stipple Hemp (lighter brown) Mushroom Linea Oyster Linea Cocoa Nougat (benchtop only?) WILSONART Shadow Evening Tigris Natural Tigris FORMICA Velveteen Earth Wash POLYTEC Cabernet Micro Mountain Pepper I'm no expert, but just picked these out of the box of samples I have... hope they give you some ideas. Having said that, if you can find that grey tone carpet that you're looking for, you can still have the grey/white tones that you are imagining for your new home... it would be sad to end up with colours that you're not really happy with. Hope this has helped a little. Good Luck! Roz Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! There is a nice light grey in Valley View as well. Judie Re: HELP with bathroom/ensuite/laundry selections 4Nov 23, 2009 7:17 pm Thank you for your replies Roz and Judie. You were right Roz, it would be sad if ended up with colours I wasn't happy with so after much stressing last night I have decided not to compromise on my grey/white colour scheme and will keep looking for the right carpet (I will definately have a look at the ones you suggested Judie) and tiles.
For now I will focus on the laminex colours. In the ensuite I think I will have white laminex cupboards with caesarstone nova aurora bench top. I am unsure what to have in the bathroom and laundry though. The floor tiles will be grey and the wall tiles will be white. Roz, you definately have looked at a lot of laminex colours! I am having trouble choosing the right colours for the vanity and laundry cupboard so if people have pictures of their grey colour schemed bathrooms/laundries it would be a great help if you could post a pic. Thanks again, Roz and Judie Re: HELP with bathroom/ensuite/laundry selections 5Nov 23, 2009 8:13 pm See what happens when you sleep on things long enough and give good thought, you work it out. I am definately happier with the decision I have reached. I am thinking the following for the bathroom, but am stuck on the bathroom bench. Any suggestions? Floor tiles: charcoal Wall tiles: white Bath hob: charcoal or white ?? Vanity cupboard: burnished wood Bench top: ?? - don't know whether to go lighter or darker or stay the same Re: HELP with bathroom/ensuite/laundry selections 7Nov 23, 2009 8:54 pm Amity Thanks Michelle! Vanity cupboard: burnished wood Bench top: ?? - don't know whether to go lighter or darker or stay the same I’m going to against the grain with the hob, most decorators would say Charcoal, but I look at the light and space. A charcoal hob will give the appearance of a smaller space. So either is ok, but I’d go white and get some nice charcoal towels. Bechtop – dark. cause you can now....no dark hob. Glad you decided to go with what you originally had your heart set on... you'll hopefully find the colour choices easier that way... I would agree with Michelle about the lighter bath hob - I think that if you have a dark floor tile, and dark vanity, it will open up your space a bit to have the bath light. I think that the burnished wood is lovely, but looks quite dark, so maybe go for a lighter stone to add some more contrast? What about the Nova Aurora that you picked for the en-suite? - very nice . Unless you go with Michelle's suggestion of a dark bench, but perhaps change to a lighter cupboard? Anyway, some more food for thought... Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!!
