Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Nov 18, 2009 9:16 am I need to decide my colours fairly soon. Bricks and roof tiles must be Boral (covenant in the estate). The link to our facade isn't working.... but it's a single story, brick, and the front main bedroom is feature cladding. So far I am settled on the CHOC TAN brick Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This will be with off-white mortar. The Garage door will be the cedar-look panelglide Front door will be similar to this, but with the long thick handle and will be wider What I need help with is the following: ROOF TILES - I like the Storm Grey - do you think this is too light? What colour guttering, downpipes, fascia goes with this??? do you think Dune is appropriate? or is that too light? Something like Bushland perhaps? Can I go with the Dune window frames???? I really like dune and would like to be able to use it.... The BIG question - what colour do I do the feature cladding?????????? Would dune be ok? or something like Russian Toffee instead? ANY WONDERFUL OPINIONS WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED??!?!?!?! Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 2Nov 18, 2009 10:52 am Russian Toffee is a lovely colour. I have it in my rumpus rooms and all the bedrooms. It is a slightly darker shade of the popular Hogs Bristle. If you are having Dune ( which is a great colour) I wouldnt have the Russian Toffee. There isnt enough contrast there for me. I think with your nice bricks and the roof plus the woodgrain doors you have enough colour so stick with dune cladding and the dune window frames etc. If you decide against using Dune then look at Gnu Tan which is two shades darker than Russian Toffee. It appears to be a darker colour but the sunlight will wash it out alot. The Russian Toffee is very light for outdoors. If you are in Sydney I can direct you to a display home which has Gnu Tan render. Michelle will be able to help you decide Building in Bella Vista Waters Sydney. Do you think I could go Dune cladding, fascias and guttering, but have surfmist windows??? Surfmist is a really light colour, almost white but with a grey tinge. I will ask for a sample of that Gnu Tan - sounds lovely!!! I just worry about using dark window colours as i don't want to have the dark window look indoors.... which is why i liked Surfmist because it would blend in with my light interior colours.... it's SO hard choosing colours! Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 4Nov 18, 2009 12:20 pm Going by your photos your roof tile is a darker shade of grey than the dune and the surf mist. This would all like very nice together with your wood tones in your garage and entry doors and with the brown bricks. Very elegant and pleasing to the eye but not at all boring. However this is just my opinion. wait for Michelle and others to give you a reply Building in Bella Vista Waters Sydney. The Galaxy with Macquarie facade by Young Homes Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 6Nov 23, 2009 11:51 am I would get maybe Jasper down pipes to match your bricks? Guttering I would get perhaps woodland grey to match your tiles. Then depending on whether jasper really suited your bricks or not, I would get jasper or woodland grey facia. Personally I dont think the light wood matches the chocolate bricks, but thats just me (and I really have no idea about colours - I cant even pick my own), im just giving my opinion. Probably what I have suggested is going to be too many colours, im really bad at visualising! Do you have any photos of where your brick has been used on a full house? Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 8Nov 23, 2009 8:46 pm Storm Grey roof tiles will be fine. And yes Dune will work well with the bricks for your guttering. But I would have Ironstone for the gutters and facia. Dune windows, but I would look at something darker for the cladding as a feature. Russian Toffee is good but prehaps something a litte darker. Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 10Nov 24, 2009 5:59 am Eaves are the underside of the facia……just clearing that up for you just in case. Now taking that on board, the eaves are meant to reflect light down, say onto the front door or over a veranda, so they are much better off being a very light colour. I always suggest a white, or a very light version of the main paint on the house. In your case I’m going to say white, in a semi gloss so they are easy to keep cobweb free. Check out this thread for a pic of Self Destruct render. It didn't turn out anywhere near how I expected. Very yellow. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26008&hilit=self+destruct I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 12Nov 24, 2009 10:26 pm Thanks so much for that thread reference, Joles. Yes, the self-destruct looks a lot lighter in real life compared to samples... I guess i'm going to have to be really careful when choosing the colour.... i don't really want a light render, i would rather something a little more earthy and darker... but not too dark against the dark brick. Michelle - yes I realised I had written fascia instead of eaves and i edited the post... I may go for an extremely light version (close to white) of the render colour we choose... thanks for all your help Re: PLEASE HELP - i need opinions on external colours 13Nov 25, 2009 7:42 am The Gnu Tan I first suggested is a darker shade of Self Destruct. I will be having my new home rendered in this colour. I have used Self - destruct internally. Gnu Tan is a lovely warm colour and it is not too dark and certainly not too light. for a pic of Gnu Tan go to http://www.younghomes.com.au/ go to the photo gallery and it is the 6th picture - a modern French Provincial home with Gnu Tan render and facebrick around the base of the home. The railing on the balcony and the colour of the gutters is Dulux Blackbutt whihc is a very very dark choc brown. I used this as it blends in nicely with our dark grey almost black roof and looks nice with the brick. Building in Bella Vista Waters Sydney. If you show them the photos they should be able to figure it out for you straight away 1 1772 Thank you @.
