Ditch it and do whatever you want. And yeah, fluck the estate covenants! It's not like you're rendering the entire facade bright red or something. (No, I still can't get over my neighbour's choice...perhaps I need therapy ) Re: Does this look like Self-Destruct to you? 22Nov 14, 2009 8:56 am It just looks so.... boring. It does blend in with the estate though, so it's not like it's an eyesore. I think the flouro orange render at the bottom of my street deflects attention from my place. I just didn't expect it to be so yellow.... I thought it would be paler and less creamy yellow. I read the Dulux head colour chick going on about the green undertones of Self Destruct (???) so I thought it would go ok with the Evening Haze. But err.... no. The bricks are grey based, not cream and I think that along with the Evening Haze is what is making it look so yellow. It looked better before the render was coloured. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-11-05_11-16-43_051120091369.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Can you do what you want to your house after completion, after a few years or does a convenant go on for eternity? Re: Does this look like Self-Destruct to you? 24Nov 14, 2009 7:25 pm I agree, it looks to similar to your bricks and defeats the purpose (what are your bricks by the way??) could you go a lighter colour like in the pic before the render paint was on? like paperbark or something? otherwise i think the grey will look good too. caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! I was wondering, the first pic looks like taken when cloudy, so I was wondering if it'd be yellower in sunshine... but no... it's whiter. I agree though that there isn't enough contrast against the bricks :S what a ridiculous covenant to cover render colour!! How to Create a Boring Suburb 101... Self Destruct. We loved the colour and it looked fantastic. When we were considering painting the outside of the house we did a patch at the front to the north and the back to the south. The changes in the colour were incredible. Suffice to say we scrapped it. It was so much paler and yellower than from being inside. Very disappointing to be honest so I understand how you feel. I absolutely love them. englyn I agree though that there isn't enough contrast against the bricks :S what a ridiculous covenant to cover render colour!! How to Create a Boring Suburb 101... The external colours of our house are our only covenenats. We can do any type of fencing, roof pitch, etc, etc. All houses have to be Tuscan colours. So red roof, cream/browny/pale type bricks, traditional earthy render colours. It is limiting but I must admit the estate doesn't feel boring. It is so open and hilly, and the houses are grouped in areas, with masses of open space. By having similar colours, the whole idea was to not let a few houses dominate the landscape. There are a few monster houses on my estate (and by monster, one is 200sq ). If the covenantgs weren't so strict regarding colours, there could be a massive blue or pink or lime green monstosity across one of the valleys. So I do understand why it has been done. buildingadreamhome Before we knocked down our house and starting building this one we painted all the inside (except for a few feature walls? Self Destruct.
