Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 31, 2009 1:42 pm Hi I am wondering if someone can help me work out what size mirror I should put over my buffet? The new buffet is 200cm long, 90cm high and 45cm deep. The wall it is on is about 240cm wide with a door to the left when looking at the buffet and then another small wall about 60cm wide before opening into our rumpus room. I am thinking of putting a frameless mirror over the buffet (i've seen one that has what would normally be a wooden frame made of mirror as well and it looks great). I think the mirror should be about 170cm wide, but how tall should it be to be in proportion to the buffet? 100cm maybe? It is at the end of a quite long room. If anyone has photos it would be awesome to see them. thanks Lix Re: Mirror size 2Oct 31, 2009 2:06 pm The golden mean always looks good I think that is 1.618.... Re: Mirror size 3Oct 31, 2009 3:08 pm Here’s my mirror, and this is how I like to see them.....the exact width of the buffet if possible. Or as close as you can, remember proportion, it all needs to complement. Don’t take any notice of what you see to the right, that’s a stereo and CD stand. Either way I think it'd look good. It also depends what's in the very close proximity of the buffet though...if you've got a heap of stuff on either side, or tall things nearby or things hanging on the wall on either side, maybe make the mirror slightly narrower to avoid over crowding... Also, not that I have any idea about measurements or visualising them in my head, but if your buffet is quite chunky or big looking, you can get away with a mirror slightly wider. If it's a more delicate antique-type buffet, maybe make the mirror slightly narrower. AND it also kind of depends what you want to be the focal piece more. The buffet or the mirror. If you've got a nice but not flashy buffet and want that area to attract the eye and look a bit impressive, you might want to get a mirror that's quite a bit wider than the buffet and a feature in itself to become the focal point. Otherwise, the buffet should stand out by having a slightly smaller or even just simplistic mirror above it.
