Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 21, 2009 10:28 pm Hi everyone, I'm going to have to decide fairly quickly I think on what 2 colours of render I want. Here are my colours Bricks: Austral Nougat http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/nougat.jpg Roof: Monier Barramundi Gutter, window frames & downpipes: Woodland grey Fascia: Dune http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0442.jpg I have already picked my door colour and that is: Wattyl Dark Amethyst http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_06081.jpg Here is a pic of what my facade will be like. http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/facade21oct09.jpg I'm wanting a colour for the portico area and another for the wall where the windows are. I was orginally not going to have render so thats why I chose the purple door, otherwise I would have had purple ont he portico. so I'm not afraid of a splash of colour, but don't it to be a eye sore either lol Any suggestions?? I'm having a real hard time picturing it Thanks Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: What colour render to use?? 2Oct 22, 2009 7:15 pm Sorry, I don't really have an answer for you but just wanted to warn you that Colorbond Woodland Grey has a definite green tinge to it in real life so I'm not sure how that would go with your purple door. Re: What colour render to use?? 3Oct 22, 2009 8:14 pm oh well to late now I guess Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: What colour render to use?? 4Oct 22, 2009 8:27 pm Im not sure if you should have the render on the wall with windows. With the Nougat bricks, they will look pretty good exposed, face brick. Perhaps just render the porch? You have a purple front door, so I would probably choose a dark shade of beige or the same purple colour for render? Re: What colour render to use?? 5Oct 22, 2009 8:47 pm I actually love purple and green together, so maybe I shouldn't fight the woodland grey and do the portico area an emerald green???!!!! lmao *I am kidding* What about a chocolate colour? You have quite a few colours going on... I'd do the largest part of the render around the windows in Dune and then the portico in a a colour similar to a double or triple strength Dune.... like a much darker Dune type colour if that makes sense. That way your front door will still stand out and you won't actually be introducing any more colours. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. PURPLE AND GREEN???!! You must be joking..... Personally, I have chocolate render on my facade.. and I actually think its been overdone. Do something natural and neutral as Jo said, but with the colour oomph of the purple. Again, NO GREEN! Re: What colour render to use?? 8Oct 22, 2009 9:56 pm joles What colour is your garage door? Like the idea of doing the 2 tones of Dune...sounds nice Oh Salt & Pepper and I was looking so forward to seeing some green lol Oh wait, thats right my bricks will turn green lol Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: What colour render to use?? 9Oct 22, 2009 9:58 pm Woodland Grey looks different against different bricks and paintwork - it does have a green tinge to it, but that can be emphasised or played down, depending on what you team it with, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.... and no: don't go emerald green for the portico. Your purple front door is going to be a feature, so I wouldn't go for bright or super-strong render colours. I like Jo's suggestion - Dune and a darker but similar colour. Re: What colour render to use?? 10Oct 22, 2009 10:03 pm Just worried I'm going to brown...I have a thing against brown lol I could always paint the door once I move in...oh wait no I can't, they are doing the window sound and door frame the same colour...oh gawd what have I done lol Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: What colour render to use?? 11Oct 23, 2009 5:44 am Hi all….. It’s amazing how well you can all do when I’m not around. Not around today either I have to go to Sydney. Sorry! I like your purple door but agree with the others green portico would look a tad....70's What about a dark brown colour? We are probably doing our portico in Jasper with the Nougat bricks and dark roof like you....though my front door will probably be more neutral, I'm a neutral kinda gal. Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: What colour render to use?? 15Oct 26, 2009 6:36 pm Michelle...I'm still undecided (btw its eljay here) If I had known prior to doing my colours that I was needing render, I would have saved my purple colour for the portico. Now I don't know what to do..I can't change the door now because I'll have to pay a variation charge. And I don't want to go to brown..... Have seen a beige colour that has a hint of purple through it...I have no idea what its called though. And then maybe something a shade or two light for around the windows? Or should I just do the portico? I'm hopeless at this colour thing lol Re: What colour render to use?? 16Oct 26, 2009 6:41 pm Simple if you love the purple do it. Then repaint the door when you move in, in another colour. Then repaint the door when you move in, in another colour. If I did the purple on the portico, what colour would you have for around the windows and then what colour would I do the door? I don't know if I did the wrong thing, but I agreed to having the door colour to go on the door frame and on the window frames that are on both sides of the door. So it would be a lot of fiddly painting for me to do once I moved in. Re: What colour render to use?? 18Oct 27, 2009 11:04 am Like Michelle said, if you really like the purple, just do it! A door is not that hard to paint, and if you're not confident in doing it yourself you can always hire someone to paint the door and trimmings, not a huge job. Go the purple!! Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! So then, what colour purple do I use and what colour do I have the door? lol Re: What colour render to use?? 20Oct 27, 2009 11:47 am Repainting the door later down the track will cost far less than the variation fee of $500. You could do it yourself very cheaply, pick up some sample paint, or a small tin. Or pay a painter for an hour's worth of work. That sucks! Hope it all works out.
