Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Oct 14, 2009 3:18 pm Hi all, I have been stalking this forum for a short while and just became a member. Great forum!! We are just exchanging contracts on a house (first home buyer), which has wooden jarrah floor boards throughout. I would love to lift the rooms with some light furniture, and love the idea of leather over fabric for lounges etc. My 2yo currently has gastro and this underscores my lack of enthusiasm for fabric! Is it suicidal to consider a cream or white/off white lounge with kids. I've had conflicting opinions?! Re: white leather lounge and kids! 2Oct 14, 2009 3:33 pm I have a few white leather pieces in my place....I have one husband (only one), a 23 year old and small dog and it does gets grubby, but is easy cleaned with some leather spray cleaner. I also have a black leather lounge and it shows dirt like you wouldn't believe, you can't win, just get what you want they all get dirty Re: white leather lounge and kids! 3Oct 14, 2009 3:39 pm SuH I have a few white leather pieces in my place....I have one husband (only one), a 23 year old and small dog and it does gets grubby, but is easy cleaned with some leather spray cleaner. God I sound bossy, don't I Re: white leather lounge and kids! 5Oct 14, 2009 8:48 pm my wife wanted a white leather couch until we started shopping for one. even in the stores the dirt stuck out on the white leather but didnt on darker colours. the leather specialists werent keen to sell a white couch either. Re: white leather lounge and kids! 6Oct 15, 2009 12:48 pm I went for white leather furniture in our boardroom where I used to work (suggested by the project management company). It turned out to be a disaster as the dye from somebody's clothing stained one chair a lovely shade of burgundy and the professional cleaners couldn't get it out - it had to be reupholstered. Every other chair also ended up with biro on them after only a couple of uses. We were told by the cleaners unless any mark is treated immediately it is likely to stain permanently. Looked fantastic on the day we set it up but vowed never to have a light colour leather again. Re: white leather lounge and kids! 7Oct 20, 2009 7:34 am I have a white lounge and and 4.5 and 3 year old. We got the lounge before the kids and it's our one and only lounge. So all of our sitting is on it. To be honest when we bought the lounge all the white and light coloured lounges in the shops looked feral. Very dirty!! We figured it was a case of people sitting on them that didn't really care about it staying clean. And now after 4.5 years of kiddie use....would I have white again?? Yes. Admittedly it does get dirty. I use some very unorthodox methods to clean it - baby wipes and also Jif for a really good clean. It can be hard work but I love the white. There are a couple of stains that I can't get out but I have managed to get out biro, texta and who knows what kind of food marks!! When we move into the new house we are still going to use it but I will get it professionally cleaned. Re: white leather lounge and kids! 8Oct 20, 2009 9:29 am We also had the dilemma of cream/white or black/brown leather couches - we purchased ours before we had kids. I had a friend who had cream and I loved the look but it got very dirty really quickly and she said it drove her insane, it also showed the sweet marks around where you would sit. So we ended up with black and yes it does still show marks, generally things like milk, youghurt and other white food sources that come from my sons lovely hands. I'm glad we got black though as I would hate trying to get pen marks, stains off it or texta etc etc. My brother has brown and they are really happy with that - they have no kids and it's always spec and span. I give ours a thorough clean about every two months and its not too hard, looks just like new. But in saying that it's a personal choice really. Good luck with your decisions! I now have some fabric samples to play with: Mochachino (off white) from King furniture leather, and some microsuede tan type colours. The mochachino leather is a full grain leather so apparently wouldn't have the problem of dark denim jeans etc transferring or staining the leather like the less stain resistant anhiline leathers etc. Still deliberating though... all the decision making re: colour choices etc is hard isn't it?!
