Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 28, 2009 4:09 pm Hi Michelle! I've just started a Commercial Arts course, and am onto my 2nd module, which is apply design principals. part of the assessment is putting together a mood/presentation board. They've suggested that I need to have samples in the same proportion as they would appear in the room. So my question is . . . Where do I get samples that are larger then a paint chip???? Can I just write to suppliers (carpet, tiles, wallpaper) and explain that I'm a student, and will they send me some things in hte colours I'm after?? I've already ordered some samples from Laminex, but I can't find any other supplies that will send samples off the website. Thanks for your help! It’s down to the hard yards here. You need to decide on what you are putting on the mood board, get it, buy it or make it yourself. Then you cut it all down to size in proportion. I’ve just pulled mine out…had a giggle at it, mine was of a kitchen and everything I wanted to put in that space. I painted the back of the board in the colour I wanted to use for the room, so that was done. Perhaps you could paint a little of the paint onto a small swatch and glue it to the board. I got laminate sample cut them up, glued them on, tiles, cut them up, glued them on and vinyl flooring cut it up and glued it on. Think outside the square!!! You will have to do it yourself. Most companies should provide you with what you want, if not, do what I did and go to the suppliers. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Has this helped?? I hadn't really even considered using lots of samples to create a similar pattern to what would actually be in the room! I had this vision of trying to get a sample of carpet just as wide as the board, and how I was going actually going to get that to stick!! A much better idea and much easier!! I'm doing it by correspondence, which is great, but it means I'm a bit left to own devices. This isn't likely to be my only question!!! Thanks again!!! ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Question for Michelle 4Sep 28, 2009 7:27 pm I did my course via correspondence also…not easy to do. But you learn how to get around it all, which will help you later in theory! Carpet…just go to a carpet store and see what they have in the bin, carpet left over form jobs, more than likely they will give it to you for nothing, you will only need a bit and they will cut that off for you. I think I used “No Nails Glue” works a treat, as you can see, after 14 years mine is still stuck on the board! I’m glad I helped you; I had no one to help me. Good luck. I found a awesome tiling place in Syd that where happy to send me 6x6" samples of these smaller tiles, and a girl from carpet call gave me a rug for free to cut up for my swatch! Next module is on colour and I'm looking forward to playing with my new gouache paints this weekend! I haven't got any feedback yet, this was only my 2nd module so I'm looking forward to see how I'm going. Make sure I am actually on the right track. Everyone in the office seems really nice though, I've already bombed them with questions on the colour module! ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Question for Michelle 9Oct 21, 2009 6:11 am Yes it’s hard with correspondence courses, if you don’t get the back up; you can be in big trouble trying to get through the course. Glad they are helpful I think your board is perfect, just what they like. Now the colour module, if it’s anything like mine was….it will keep you on your toes! Which seems relatively easy, but the book isn't very clear. I think it's one of those things I'm going to need to sit down with a few hours to play with all the mixing and hopefully it will all full into place. It doesn't really seem like something anyone can show me either! Worse still, DH is colourblind so he's useless! ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Question for Michelle 11Oct 21, 2009 4:41 pm Frosty….just looked at my major piece/module …..10 pages of it!!!!!! I got 68/70 for it. Only because she would have gritted her teeth to give 70 out 70…….. Too many photos to show you maybe when I get time I will have a go at posting them for you. And thank you ….I got a bit of a thrill to look back through my folder and how I presented it, even I was impressed after all these years. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9971 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel.
