Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 24, 2009 11:33 am Hi I am in the middle of redoing our kitchen which has led to us also reaplacing the tiles in our family room and one thing leads to another and now I need to replace the furniture in our rumpus room! I would love some ideas on the furniture layuout in this room. In the picture below I've tried to show you the way it is now. Basically it is a room with lots of windows that go almost from the ceiling to the floor (in the diagram they are the thick black lines on the walls). It is a lovely but weird shape which in mind is limiting what I can do. Currently I have 3 lounges (the larger rectangles) with a round higher table between 2 of them and a normal square coffee table between the other 2. In the solid corner I have an entertainment unit\bookshelf type thing that is angled across the corner (the rectanlges in the corner). This holds our TV, books, ornaments etc. There is also a electric piano near the doorway. This is my dilemma. I need something to put the tv, books etc in and the only option I can see is to do something similar to what I have now that fits around the corner. I've thought about just putting a unit on the wall that is next to the door but not sure how that would look and how it would work watching TV. At the moment the TV is in the angled part of the unit so it makes watching TV quite comfortable. Also, what other options do I have for seating? I'd love one of those lounges that have a long piece where you can lie on them (don't know what they are called), but can't see how it can fit in the room without really infringing on the space. The long sticky-outy thingie is called a chaise. We've got one of those and it's a great way to get comfy couch space without taking up a whole heap of room. If your room was mine, I would have a 3-seater couch with a chaise taking the place of the piano and two seater on the long wall with the windows, two single seaters sharing an ottoman/pouffe in front replacing the angled two-seaters, a nice big flatscreen on the other long wall and the piano against the short wall. Don't know if that would get you the number of seats you need, though! It would sit 7 adults sitting upright or 4 adults sprawled right out. Just realised my picture has a window missing on the right hand wall, so I've uploaded the picture again. Love the idea of the chaise where the piano is, only problem is it will be right in the middle of the doorway. I did think about putting one in the corner where the TV is now, but then that would mean the TV would end up in front of a big window which I don't think will look good or be functional. Never thought of single chairs, so that is something for me to think about. I also thought about putting the TV on the wall, but then I need to work out where to put all the other stuff that is currently in the cabinet. Most of it I would want to keep as it is souvenirs of our travels, photos, books etc. Guess I could put a bookcase type thing where the piano is now? thanks for the input! I would pull the 3 lounges in and join them as an “L” shape leaving room for the piano to sit at the window in the BAY area at the back wall. Coffee table in front of the three lounges. Now you have cosy and conversation. Do you mean put the piano where the litte round table is now? How would you put the lounges? One straight behind the piano and the other 2 together on (or off) the wall where the piano and straight lounge is now? What sort of entertainment unit would you get? Would you leave it so it fills in the corner space or move it to one wall? thanks heaps Liz Re: Help with new furniture layout 8Sep 28, 2009 9:41 pm Move the little square coffee table that is to the left…somewhere. Pull the 2 loungers against the back windows in to meet with the one on the side wall, where the square coffee table was. You now have an “L” shape. They are facing the doorway now. Put the piano where the round table is. Corner TV unit is best for your layout.
