We are putting our house on the market in a couple of months and I have decided that I need to add a bit of colour to my kitchen area as there is too much cream!! Any idea's? Here are some pictures: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I was thinking perhaps paiting a feature colour near the rangehood and possibly above the fridge? But have no idea on what colour!! The benchtop is a bluey/green, cupboards are cream, tiles are cream and paint is cream!! See told you too much cream!! The kitchen overlooks a toy room, meals area & family room which are also painted cream with some dark blue feature walls. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks Nat Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 2Jun 18, 2007 9:45 pm Nat….your kitchen looks great just the way it is!
More than likely you will add a feature wall the next person will hate! Neutral is best when it comes to selling, you are leaving a blank canvas for the next owner to work with and add their own colours and ideas to. Your kitchen is very attractive, so don’t play with what already looks good. Your home looks very well presented and VERY tidy!!!! A huge bonus for selling! If you had an old tired kitchen I would agree, give it colour. But your’s is lovely. Remember you have lived with it for a while so for you it looks boring, to the next person it may be PERFECT for them. I see a block of blue in the back ground, for now leave it at that. By adding colour you could scare a potential buyer way…..they may think too much hard work, I like it cream! You have said there are other feature walls dark blue, it looks a really nice blue, and for some too many colours in visual eye contact is too much to cope with. Do you understand me? I hope so, don’t do the over kill. I have done many a home for resale and in my experience to cater for the broad public I have found less is best. Concentrate on your new one, your existing home looks FINE! ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 3Jun 18, 2007 9:51 pm Michelle????
Are you OK??? A colour consultant saying bland is better? ![]() LOL Just kidding. I agree. I think the kitchen is fine the way it is. Too many colours and they could start to think "oh I have to paint this wall" and "I dont like that wall so I have to paint right though" and it becomes a "too much work, onto the next" home... Less, in this case, is more! Michelle - Thanks so much for the input! I was looking at it again tonight and agree I think leaving it as is the best solution! The colours although on the bland side really do work well together in the area so I think trying to add another colour will throw it out of whack and may scare away potential buyers (and my husband!). When it comes to home opens I can always add a vase of fresh flowers to brighten it up if need be! Tidy hee hee thanks for the compliment but my house is far from the tidy at the moment! It used to be tidy before we had a child!! But we will defintely be de-culttering before the house goes on the market...its going to be very interesting trying to keep the place spotless with the 2 year old running around!!! Matt - thanks for input! Those lovely pictures have defintelty reaffirmed the fact that I will never ever have lime green in my place present or future...sorry Michelle!! Thanks guys Nat ![]() Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 10Jun 19, 2007 11:25 am Perth girl the kitchen looks great just the way it is, if you want to inject some colour then use accessories smartly to add a splash of colour here and there (flowers are always a good thing too) Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 13Jun 19, 2007 12:40 pm ![]() Matt, I want to know how you did that!! Amazing. Just need the right software. then its as simple as selecting an area that is relatively close in colour (ie, that wall area) and 'filling it' with colour. My wife has a problem with visualization and conceptualization... (I don't know if the second work is even real ![]() It makes it easier to sell her on ideas... Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 15Jun 19, 2007 2:51 pm Yep PSP works a treat -
Thanks Matt. There is a 30 day trial version of Paint Shop Pro X here. It's a thumping 110mb but pretty easy to use. http://apps.corel.com/int/au/trials.html I'm having a ball repainting my place at present - Pity it won't be that easy with a real brush in my hand. ![]() And as for the spatially challenged, visualization and conceptualization capabilities of your other half - Yep some folks just can't picture it till they see the picture in front of them. Even if the 2nd word is not a real word, we know what you mean ![]() Steve Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 16Jun 19, 2007 3:22 pm I'm also definitely with michelle 'perthgirl'.
Liven it up with maybe small potted ferns on the main & breakfast benches as a contrast & stick some cinnomen in the oven on viewing days. - love the (new) logo michelle - Peter Clarkson - AusDesign Australia www.ausdesign.com.au This information is intended to provide general information only. When you have an inspection of your home there are a few things you can do to invoke people’s emotions while viewing your home. 1) The most important rule of all…..DE CLUTTER! Put away, even if in the garage, all the kids toys out of sight, anything that is unsightly….(not that you would have any of these!!!) anything a potential buyer would consider not relevant to their viewing. 2) The bathrooms are always a let down….remove blow dryers of the sink, excess makeup and creams. Replace with rolled up hand towels and a nice soap on the top. A potted or imitation Orchid is always nice as well. Keep it simple keep it sparse! Show off the assets of the room. NOT your goodies. 3) If there is time, a freshly brewed peculated coffee is always good standing in the kitchen. The aroma will last for ages. 4) If you have any lamps, turn them on. Always have your window dressings open, so viewers do not have to peer through to see outside…..everyone has a spark of curiosity. Keeping window dressing open it will make the room appear larger and it lets LOTS of light in. 5) Nothing to be said about your kitchen, but…nothing beats a big bowl of freshly coloured fruit. And just for the occasion go and purchase fresh cut flowers, and put them in nice glass vases, with coloured stones in the bottom. All of these things you can take to your new home so it will not be waisted. “Spot Light” is the best place for inexpensive and modern accessories. 6) Complementary coloured cushions on the lounge, but don’t go over board. Its all about making you home feel homey and THE WORD…..COZY!!!!! If you can pull that off, and the price is right, your house will RUNN off the market. I hope this has helped……remember, as much as men like to look, it’s the little lady that has the last say!!!! So you must appeal to her! Not hard…..we all pretty much think the same. ![]() Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 19Jun 20, 2007 10:41 am Adding to what Michelle said,
7) If you have a home theatre, switch it on, put on a kids animated movie (Nemo or something like that). darken the room and make it just like when you are watching your favourite movie except leave the entrance door slightly open. You could really go to town and cook some popcorn in there to give it that theatre smell. ![]() 9] Tidy up the garage and display any tools neatly. Try to make it look like a workshop. 10) Tidy the garden, Hide the nose and anything else you mayhave ****** around out there. Cut the grass 2 days before. 3xb Re: Selling House - Ideas For Kitchen? 20Jun 20, 2007 10:48 am ![]() Adding to what Michelle said, 7) If you have a home theatre, switch it on, put on a kids animated movie (Nemo or something like that). darken the room and make it just like when you are watching your favourite movie except leave the entrance door slightly open.
