Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 19, 2009 4:31 pm Hi everyone, I went out to the tile place today to have a look at tiles. I spent nearly 2.5 hours there lol I have come away with some ideas, I'm pretty happy with it except for the ensuite. I LOVE my feature tile, but because of the niche is on one wall and the pipes are on the other we couldn't see a away of doing a feature strip. so we have put down the feature tile to just cover the niche area (400x400). I have a white gloss tile that has a very faint wave to it in the shower, with a white polymarble (grrrr wish I could afford to get tile) shower floor. Do you think this will look stupid??? I'm starting to think it might look icky lol Here are some pics of the colours so far Bathroom http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0394.jpg Kitchen http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0397.jpg Ensuite http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0396.jpg Thanks everyone Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 2Sep 19, 2009 5:10 pm Ooh I love your feature tiles - what tile place did you go to? They are gorgeous (and exactly what I am looking at doing). I think it woul dbe ok in just the niche, does that leave the rest of the shower white? Are you having the feature tile anywhere else in the ensuite, like near the vanity? Maybe a strip of it in the tile splashback behind the basin? Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... I had picked out my feature tile (a gold, opal looking tile) when I looked up and they caught my eye. They have a shiny silver tile in it to, its very pretty. I found them at 'Lifes Tiles' at 84 Synnot Street, Werribee. They are $31.00 per sheet! Depending on whether or not my builder comes back saying they are going to charge me extra to lay my floor tiles or not will determine if I have it over the basin as well. I know my builder charges extra to lay vitrified? porcelain and the tiles I picked are glazed porcelain and the tile place thinks they will charge for it If I could afford it I would have one whole wall in the shower with this tile. The other tile in the shower is a plain gloss white tile and I think it is 400x300. Are the lower kitchen cupboards and the bench top a similar colour? From the photos one looks very white and the other more creamy. Is there a pattern through the bench? I always think if there is only a slight contrast in whites, one will look dirty instead of a separate colour. I also like a pattern on beanchtops to hide stains. Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 6Sep 21, 2009 7:22 pm I agree about the two whites Mango. They should not be up against each other and the pale colour will show dirt and stains very badly if it is used on a bench. All the other colour choices are great! Well done! Because of the location of the niche I can't put the strip down the wall and the other wall has the taps etc on it. Should I get rid of the niche...or the tile?? I doubt I could afford to do the whole wall The other worry is what a couple of people have brought up. The 2 whites I have become quite attached to the fudge stream and would really love to keep it in the kitchen (or should I put it in the bathroom?). If I keep it in the Kitchen, what benchtop would you recommend putting with it??? Could I go a dark benchtop or should I keep it light? Here is a copy of what my kitchen will look like. At the moment the bench has a cut off corner, to get the look I think I'm after I was going to see if I could get that corner squared off (I have put a dotted line in).... http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/kitchenworkingplansbmp.jpg I have plans to put the fudge stream under the bench running from the wall to the end of the counter (where its squared off) It will only be visable if your in the family/dining/rumpus area. I'm really lost on this Any suggestions? Thanks again. Your bathroom colours are gorgeous. Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 9Sep 21, 2009 9:19 pm SUH Does your espresso have a touch of purple in it? The sample in the tile place was brown but when you looked at it from an angle there was a hint of purple in it. Is yours like this? Do you think have so much fudge stream in my kitchen will be to much? I have talked to anyone else that has it, so I'm not sure Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 10Sep 21, 2009 9:25 pm I'm not much help with your colours, but just wanted to drop in and say that I'm in love with your ensuite colours!!! Your kitchen bar area is quite long, if the room is big and there are no competing patterns I think it will pretty snazzy (I can't believe I just said this when I have floral tiles behind my Fudge Stream bench in the powder room, but I wouldn't do it in a kitchen I still love looking at it, yadda yadda Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As for the Espresso, I have not picked up any purple in it at all in any light, it is pure brown to me. Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 16Sep 23, 2009 12:50 am Love the fudge stream and i definately vote to ditch the parchment. I would chose a grey brown colour that works with the fudge and it would make a nice middle colour between the fudge, the white bench and the espresso and your tiles. I would also wrap the fudge around the corner as well. I dont think it would be too much. One more thing, have you considered making it a corner island with waterfall ends. That would cap the fudge off and make it a real feature. You would lose one cupboard but getting rid of one corner will sorta make up the space. Just a thought. Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 18Sep 23, 2009 9:16 pm SuH We have used Espresso in our bar on the top and cupboards and on the laundry top with Mushroom Linea cupboards and have Fudge Stream in our ensuite with a white top, those two colours go great, Fudge Stream has greys and browns in it will be good with the splashback, agree with the others on the two different whites though. I am trying to decide on this combo or fossil and mushroom linea for our outdoor kitchen. Thanks By the way Eljay LOVE all your colurs especially the Fudge Stream - wish I was brave enough to use it Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 19Sep 23, 2009 11:58 pm Hi everyone, Thank you so much to everyone for taking the time to reply to me. My head is spinning. I always thought I had a good eye for putting things together, but this has proved me wrong!!! I'm really struggling with the kitchen colours now. I didn't really like the bench top one and then the tile lady recommended the parchment. The one i have there for the benchtop is more of a greyish white and the parchment has a yellowish tinge to it. So I agree, they don't go. I prefer crisp colours. I've always loved the polar white, but I'm scared of using it for stains etc.... I'm going to see how much extra for diamond gloss for the benchtop. I don't know if I can afford to go a waterfall and I'm not sure I want to lose my cutlery draws lol I will see how much it will cost to convert the cupboards under the window into large draws, if that doesn't cost to much then I'll probably convert the bench. Using the fudge at the front, do you think i could go a deeper colour like pure mineralstone , catalina marble or even jerusalum stone and then maybe using polar white on the lower cupboards?? Sorry I was going to upload some pics of them but for some reason I just can't get into photobucket I have to pick my outside colours by next monday too arghhhhhhh lol Deposits paid 29/4/09 Land settlement 12/08/09 Build contract signed 24/08/09 Colours done 28/09/09 BLOG-http://www.eljaysbuild.blogspot.com/ Re: This is doing my head in :( Any suggestions welcomed 20Sep 24, 2009 3:12 pm Lynne, I think your colours so far are fantastic!!!! I could only see a problem with the difference in the whites, but I love the rest together. I can't help with laminex colours to change it, i didn't get the full laminex colour chart (only the squareform bench one and formica). If it makes you feel any better, I'm sure I've picked the wrong colours too... only I don't know where to start to fix it! Did you want to change the kitchen bench and the lower doors? I'm sure there will be some more suggestions.... Keep smiling buzz I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
