Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 17, 2009 10:03 pm Hi guys, Just wanted some opinions about some curtains in our master bedroom. We will be having timber venetian blinds, but I wanted to put some kind of sheer tab curtain over the top to make the bedroom feel a bit warmer. The windows are about 84cm wide and most of the ready made curtains are 140cm wide. I'd like to get away with one curtain per window, if possible, because the windows are so skinny. Just not sure whether one curtain on each window will look funny The wall to the right in the photo will be a damask wallpapered feature wall (black and silver) and there will be a black string chandelier in the centre of the room. The curtains I've had my eye on are an almost sheer black and silver damask pattern. I'm worried that 4 predominantly black curtains will look chunky and OTT. I've attempted a ******* Paint job to show you what I mean Would appreciate anyone's opinion/advice! TIA! Re: Curtain opinions needed!! 2Sep 17, 2009 10:48 pm principessa, our windows on our facade are the same width and we are doing either your option B or alternatively just one sheer across each window. Each room has at least 2 windows in our place. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Curtain opinions needed!! 3Sep 18, 2009 7:00 am Re: Curtain opinions needed!! 4Sep 18, 2009 7:27 am Both options can work - depends on your preferences (thus I have not voted) Opt A: If you put a picture(s) in the space in between the 2 windows, a table or furniture in the middle there it can draw the 2 windows together as it is one. Creating a focal point should draw attention away from your fear that the curtains maybe too heavy in colour. I am not sure if you intend to have the curtains permantly tied back, or hanging over the window space, using one width per window I feel would look too skimpy. You could buy 4 of the curtains, and put 2 to one side of each window to create the fullness, especially if you intend them to be dress curtains. Opt B could also look good. Very good 'doggy paint job' -one consideration is that it shows a solid back, whereas sheers will be lighter and let light through, so will not be as overpowering as you may think. Re: Curtain opinions needed!! 5Sep 18, 2009 9:30 am Thanks so much for all of the responses!! 4walls Opt A: If you put a picture(s) in the space in between the 2 windows, a table or furniture in the middle there it can draw the 2 windows together as it is one. Creating a focal point should draw attention away from your fear that the curtains maybe too heavy in colour. This is exactly what I was thinking! Putting a picture in between the windows just above head height and then putting a long, low ottoman under the window in the centre. 4walls I am not sure if you intend to have the curtains permantly tied back, or hanging over the window space, using one width per window I feel would look too skimpy. Since we will have white-ish timber venetians on the windows, the curtains are 100% decorative and will probably be kept pulled back all of the time. They're probably more opaque than sheer. I might buy a couple of the curtains and a rod and take it to the house on the weekend. I can change them around a bit and see what looks best and buy another two curtains if necessary. Thanks again everyone. Much appreciated! Building a Wisdom Homes Impression 33 MkII http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com/ We have the keys! Tiling in progress... Re: Curtain opinions needed!! 9Sep 19, 2009 10:19 pm Sorry I didn't reply earlier ! I was going to say Option B for sure until I read about the picture in the middle and the ottoman, that could work too. I think the best thing is to do what you are suggesting: take the material to the house and test it. Maybe you should even take pics and show us! The "*******" paint job is good but I agree that it just shows them as heavy black so not ideal to make a decision on! Your house is going to look fantasticccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc That wall paper sounds great. We want to do wall paper somewhere but haven't decided on where or which one! Whereas no B. could be thinner, but still make them fuller than your picture, have their tracks much higher and wider than the actual window to give the illusion of bigger windows... good luck A thankful person is a happy person. You'll get a much more luxurious look with option A - make sure you get a pelmet that extends across the whole window space.
