Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 12, 2009 8:04 pm Hello Michelle and all other lovely colour gurus!!!! The last big project on our renovation list is looming - the kids bathroom!!! We are having the following floor tile, which is a sandstone colour (pretty close to the same colour as Dulux Self Destruct). http://www.clipartof.com/images/emotico ... hammer.gif We may not be able to afford tiling from floor to ceiling (jury still out on that one ). If we can't, we will do the same tile up the walls in the shower and bath cavity and as a vanity splashback, with a stone mosaic feature tile. So my question is, what sort of colour should I do the walls? Should I do them in a colour like Self Destruct, which is the same as the tiles, or would that be too "samey" and boring? If I do go for a contrast, should the walls be lighter than the tiles (like Hog Bristle 1/4, which is my flow colour in all the other rooms) or darker like Stonecrop or Jarrah? I read somewhere that you should always do darker colours on the bottom because that draws the eye up (or something like that - I always get that stuff wrong, and Michelle has to set me straight!!! ) Anyway, any thoughts? I'm after a warm but elegant look . Sorry I can't post colours, the new Dulux site has got me totally bamboozled at the moment. Re: What colour for bathroom walls? 3Sep 12, 2009 9:56 pm Thanks, JoK - all input gratefully received!!! Do you think Hog 1/4 goes OK with white ? - we will probably be having a white gloss vanity with the white ceramic top. Re: What colour for bathroom walls? 6Sep 13, 2009 9:08 am MagicJ . Sorry I can't post colours, the new Dulux site has got me totally bamboozled at the moment. That new Dulux website!!! I had a melt down the other night while just starting a new remote consultation! I’m not kidding; I was beside myself and in tears! Anyway, I think I have it sorted now after 2 blood pressure tabs and some drinks... Def stick with your flow colour, it will still work with your tiles. Best to keep bathrooms light and bright, I think it makes them more pleasant to be in. I will ignore you both and go Jarrah !!! TOTALLY JOKING - Hog Bristle 1/4 it is! I also like a light bright bathroom, nothing too scary if you happen to have a hangover!!! Sorry to hear the Dulux site is upsetting you, Michelle, it must be a pain when you need to work with it so often. That designer needs his head read (or a good punch in the nose, whichever is more effective !) Just a little update on this....the jury came back in and we ARE tiling floor to ceiling !!! Tiling has started and should be finished tomorrow or the next day and it's looking fabulous, so very happy - I'm totally loving my stone mosaic feature tile (something to tide me over until my kitchen splashback arrives next week!) Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6043 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11104 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11732 |
