Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Sep 02, 2009 8:21 am Hi My wife wants a leather lounge for the family room, but she doesnt want to spend the money to get what she really wants. So we found a suitable lounge at A-Mart and would like some advice on if the colouring will work. The lounge is available in either chocolate or black. The room it will be in is all white except for 1 chocolate coloured feature wall. Our concerns are that our tiles might make a chocolate or black lounge a bit too much dark colour. Tiles are pictured below. Would chocolate or black be okay, and which of the two would you recommend. I like both colours and think the black wouldnt be too bad but I think black would be quite bold but I dont know. Here are pics of the lounge and our tiles. The tiles are a mocha'ish colour, the picture as usual is a little hard to see clearly. The two browns look a lot different in the photos. I go for the chocolate with a nice rug. Re: Lounge selection advice - colour 3Sep 02, 2009 10:10 am Hmmm a 'living room' with tiles and a leather lounge. That ain't living! Where's the softness? Where's the texture? What's to appeal to your tactile sensations? Sounds more like a cell to me! Ash. Re: Lounge selection advice - colour 4Sep 02, 2009 10:32 am we have a brown rug already ..... it has white and caramel swirls through it, again hence our worry with the chocolate colouring... comfort is a massive leather couch, the softness is in the big rug we are putting in. if i had carpet in there i would be replacing it yearly, we have 3 tiny one's and our eldest is a destroyer of worlds, has to be easily cleanable Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Basically, leather is highly OVER-RATED as an upholstery covering. If it is a large surface area lounge and inexpensive, chances are it will be poor quality leather, so don't expect much from it. Perhaps you could mix & match a leather settee with some other upholstered lounges? But it's your home, so tell me to shut up if my interjections are not welcome! BTW as far as tiles go, I quite like the tile you've shown. The pic looks as though there's a little green in it. Would a greeny tone lounge work for you? Ash. Re: Lounge selection advice - colour 6Sep 02, 2009 10:57 am interjections are very welcome, and as much as i try and press the wife to buy something decent which will give us the colours we want and the quality, she wont budge on cost. see what im dealing with! so im stuck with a cheap leather lounge, but at the end of the day, she will be maintaining it and i can only provide advice so the quality and type of couch isnt up for change, just the colours. so black or chocolate lol ;-P Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Re: Lounge selection advice - colour 8Sep 02, 2009 11:04 am haha lol the only upside is that amart will take the lounge back if we get it home and it looks horrible and we could buy a different rug if its too brown Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. If it is the main living room with a busy family, it should be wiped over with a slightly damp microfibre when any marks appear, spills blotted well and then wiped up, vacuumed and wiped over weekly, and contact areas cleaned and conditioned with quality leather care products about every 4 months. Ash. Re: Lounge selection advice - colour 10Sep 02, 2009 11:18 am I love the lounge in Chocolate, I wish we had a store in Melbourne - I'd buy the exact same one. I think the Chocolate colour with the rug would be ideal - and as you say if you need to replace rug to lift the colour in the room, it's cheaper. I concur with leather (even leatherette) with little ones, stay away from fabric until their older. Site Start: 10th September, 2010 PCI : Friday 27th January, 2011. Ash. cool thanks for the info, ill pass this onto the boss. our little girl is a terror and we pretty much have to clean up/mop/wipe down our current family room nightly when she goes to bed so one more thing to clean is just par for the course at this stage Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. You now have the opportunity to add colour with cushions and throws on the lounge. My suggestions would be red, orange and lime greens, not all at once, pick a colour and use that one only. Complement those colours with artwork that has the same colourings in them for a couple of walls. Black is not a good choice, to far left field of the tiles and browns you already have.
