Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 18, 2009 11:01 am Since I was taking some pics of DD's room for my curtain thread, I thought I would take some of DS's room which has also recently been "finished". The final touch was an Expedit bookcase from Ikea which just got put up on the weekend. I still have to finish putting things in the shelves and the red boxes, and there are heaps more books to go in the bottom shelves. I was going to get him a bedside table, and will eventually, but seeing as he doesn't even sleep in there at the moment I am not in any rush. Also trying to rationalise the car racing track in the big plastic box into one or two of the red boxes ... You'd be dismayed if you saw DS's room Poor little fella Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: DS's room finished... sorta! 8Aug 18, 2009 1:43 pm Thanks everyone! Southies don't forget this is a full 8 MONTHS after we have moved in!!! It probably looked just like your DS's room for the first few! It's been a long process billdsl it is a funny shaped room. If it was square it would be 3.6 x 4.2 metres or thereabouts, plus wardrobe, but it has a little corner nicked out of it for the hallway and the door is on an angle, making it a bit L shaped. MagicJ, he SAYS he likes it, but he still won't sleep in it! So I'm not 100% sure... So I'm not 100% sure... - when we bought DD a "big girl" bed, she was just over 2. We followed all the right rules, took her with us to pick out the bed, let her help Daddy when he put it together (she still talks about the Allen Key, which she held for him ), let her pick out her special Dora doona cover. She was so excited, totally loved it, but when the time came to sleep in it.........whammo, major screaming fit !!! She got used to it eventually when we wouldn't give in and let her have her cot back (I was 20 weeks pregnant with DS at the time, so he was going to need it!) But it took about 6 weeks. We adults love new stuff, but it takes kids a while to get the hang of it - in a few weeks he will adore sleeping in there, I bet. He is a very lucky little boy to have such a nice room!! OMG, it flies by sooo quickly.........I better get a move on Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: DS's room finished... sorta! 13Aug 18, 2009 5:44 pm Cool room! Suggestion... get some 'skidders' to place under the legs of the bed. The timber bed is not light, and the footprint is small. You will have permanently crushed carpet pile before long as it is. Skidders are small nylon dishes with curved edges and a foam in the top. They sit under the legs and allow the bed to slide easily when need be, and spread the weight of the bed over a greater area. Being dished, they are much kinder on the carpet. Then if you change the room around later, you won't have permanent pile damage where the bed was. Ash. Re: DS's room finished... sorta! 14Aug 18, 2009 6:03 pm Michelle Very nice donuts....fun isn’t it!! It's fun when I get it right, yes! MagicJ - he has been sleeping in a big boy bed for nearly 2 years (he's nearly 4) - it's just new this thing of not wanting to sleep in there! He thinks monsters are going to come out of the wall! Poor kid. He falls asleep in the hallway of all places, where he can still see/hear us, then we put him in bed asleep, then he appears in our bed at around 2am. yep Southies 8 months already and half the backyard and all of the front is still mud!! Thanks for the tip about the skidder things Ash. We originally had the bed going along the wall where the map is, and had the ones with the spikes underneath the legs. We found in our room that the spikes ripped up the carpet a bit so when we moved the bed we got rid of the spikes. We'll have to get some smooth ones. He is just a bit older than my DD then, she was 3 in May. Sometimes growing up is just no fun, is it? My DS (just turned one) is having a tough time teething at the moment, it breaks your heart when you can't do anything much to help them . I hope your DS settles in again soon and manages to conquer his "monsters" . Love the bedding, just gorgeous...and the soccer seat is fantastic! Don't you just love the Expedit shelving! I have 3 sitting in their boxes in the garage ready to unpack and attempt to assemble for the TV area upstairs. Just a thought, have you considered 'staggering' the red boxes in the shelves instead of having them all in a row? Great colour choices!
