Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 17, 2009 11:30 am Hi all, My hubby and I are building a house in country Vic and are in the pre-start stage of finalising our floor plan and selecting colour schemes... After many hours of poring over laminex/wilsonart etc samples, numerous trips to showrooms and reading others posts here to check what colours people are mixing with others and viewing pics (very useful, thank you!), I have wittled my colours down to the following: KITCHEN Floor tile = Trieste Brown? or Beige? (still to decide if brown tile or lighter beige tile to go in the main living area or keep it for bathrooms only?) Kitchen benchtop = Toffee Mineralstone Kitchen cupboards = Moleskin Back of Island bench facing into the dining area and family room = Stipple Hemp ? (matt or gloss) Splashback above kitchen cook top/hob = ?Stipple Hemp gloss (not sure yet if this is possible or in the budget). Will probably go with a brown tile, but have still to look for that... Was going to go with the Trieste Beige (lighter coloured) tile as splashback but thinking it may be too busy with floor tile and benchtop being patterned as well... BATHROOM AND EN-SUITE Bathroom and ensuite vanity tops = Toffee Mineralstone Bathroom and ensuite cupboards = ? Moleskin or ? Stipple Hemp or Stipple Seal ? Floor tile = Trieste Brown ? or Beige? Wall tile = ? Trieste Brown or Beige? Photos of samples can be viewed at Photobucket http://s918.photobucket.com/albums/ad22 ... 09_photos/ ps thanks to Zoe for the pics of her beautiful kitchen and bathroom in Toffee mineralstone/moleskin . Yes it's a painted glass splashback, it was part of a promo through our builder. I think Chalk Beige paint in a half strength would look very good too. We've been away for a couple of days to meet with our builders' agent re: our floor plan as well as colours. Have also been shopping for a suitable tile for a splashback and couldn't find anything quite the right colour and have ended up bringing other colours back into the mix (wallaby and peruvian clay!). Going to sleep on this... and dream about laminex Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! There's some pics on my blog, and some in the kitchen thread, if you haven't seen the colours on a large scale. I hadn't seen the Rock Salt til Judie posted a pic of her vanity.... I just selected and hoped for the best. I adore the Rock Salt, I used it in my laundry as well, and I wish I'd use it even more! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Kitchen & Bathroom colours advice pls UPDATE :-) 13Oct 13, 2009 7:34 pm Thanks Joles and Michelle. Joles - I was going to go with Stipple Hemp cupboards, until I saw your pics of Stipple Hemp and Rock Salt last week. I actually got my hubby to pick up a sample of Rock Salt when he went out so I could check it out ASAP!! I liked it too as soon as I saw it!! When you say there's a touch of grey in it though, just wondering if the overall colour looks grey or light brown with a hint of grey only. The Kalahari Topaz that I picked for workbench looks a light creamy brown overall, so it's not really a grey that I'm after... Thanks, Roz Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! I'm just playing around with my sample and other sample and tiles I have, and it seems to pick up whatever it is near. I reckon it would go with your benchtop choice. The Stipple Hemp is the same.... it changes so much depending on what it is near. It looks completely different in kek's kitchen than in my kitchen because of the surrounding colours. That's one of the things I liked about both the Stipple Hemp and the Rock Salt, the changability. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Kitchen & Bathroom colours advice pls UPDATE :-) 15Oct 13, 2009 10:35 pm Yay! Thanks, Joles . The sign of a true neutral? - that it blends with/picks up the other colours around... I really do like the Rock Salt as well. Still trying to decide whether to put a cream tile or an off-white tile with it for my splashback. Either will hopefully look good, so just got to decide which look I'd prefer I guess!
