Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 17, 2009 1:25 am Hi there We are up to the 'deciding on colours' stage and I need a bit of inspiration for the colours in our entranceway (and indeed the rest of the house). I know that I would like the walls a warm light brown colour that matches with my kitchen, and for the ceiling to be a warm off-white. The skirts, arcs and doors will most llikely be 1/2 or 1/4 strength of the wall colour. I quite like the Laminex clamshell colour but not sure if it might be too dark on the walls. It currently looks yellow due to the soundboard. And there will be plaster on the roof just past the step up. Not sure how to deal with the cathedral ceiling where it becomes a triangular area. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. kind Regards Mel The secret of success is enthusiasm .... http://romseyherewecome.blogspot.com/ Re: Colour help for entranceway please 3Aug 17, 2009 6:03 pm I would get a sample pot of the Calmshell, it could lean to the pink side? Just to be sure. It’s certainly NOT too dark for your walls. Getting a sample pot and painting it up will help you decide on that. But I think its fine. Ceilings/cornice - White Skirting/architrave – Clamshell full gloss or white Did you want to make a feature of the hall peak? (Cathedral ceiling) rake? D@n - good thought, but squaring it off isn't an option - we have a window at the front above the entry door which will provide light into the raked ceiling area and we specifically designed the house with this bit in mind. Thanks for the thought though! Michelle - good idea re the sample pot, will do that and see what the colour looks like. Any suggestions for other colours not quite as pink? Re the raked ceiling, we're not against making this a feature. There will be a fair amount of light coming in the top window above the entry door (in the mornings specifically) so we could make a feature of it. Would you suggest making it darker than the white? And what do you think about the Theatre room at the end of the hallway? Darker also .... perhaps the same colour as the raked ceiling, would that work? Thanks for your time and suggestions, much appreciated. Keep the ceilings all white. Since H/T rooms are mostly done dark, are you leaning this way also? I’ll wait till you answer some questions before I give you another flow colour. Ceilings all white it is! Yes, I am leaning towards darker in the theatre rooms. Also the entrance to the room on the RHS is actually higher than shown, the plasterers hadn't finished cutting the top part of the plaster (if that makes any difference - probably doesn't I guess!). Thanks for your time! What colour were you thinking for your H/T room? Everyone is doing brown, what’s your thoughts? I was thinking I'd use the same colour as for the rest of the house on the other walls, but with that wall as a feature wall, so it would need to be a colour that compliments with the standard colour I guess. At the end of the day the feature wall is only a wall of paint, so if we go a different colour and get sick of it in a couple of years then we can just repaint, can't we?? BTW, I was at a friends place who built with PD on the weekend, her walls were 'Scallopini' by Wattyl (I think it's Wattyl) and they were GORGEOUS... not sure if it suits the pallet of colours I already have going though? Your house looks beautiful, you must be very happy! Michelle - interesting, I really like the suggestions! The Nicks Nooks is similar to a colour I saw in a display home that I loved, but didn't quite know how it would work into the 'neutral' colour scheme.. i do like the idea of it being in the entrance way. And the purple.... I think I'm off to buy a couple of sample pots over the weekend to have a go and see how it looks! It will go beautifully with the nicks nooks in the front entranceway, as well as the main colour. Fantastic! Thanks so much for all your time and consideration.
