Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 16, 2009 1:46 pm Hi Michelle and anyone else out there, After seeing Caroline's beautiful splashback in the kitchen corner section, am thinking of using this colour-hope you don't mind Caroline?!. My kitchen cabinets are Hog Bristle and benchtops are latte caeserstone. Would this go? The Hog should be fine, what abt the latte caeserstone? Also from the kitchen, you look out on to the family room and I was thinking of doing a feature wall in Nicks Nook after seeing your beautiful wall! Would all this go? The feature wall can of course be changed but the cabinet and benchtop colour are locked in. I initially though of going with polished porcelain tiles but the splashback looked so good, I think I may omit the tiles and get one installed myself after handover. My fear with browny coloured glass is if the colour is not right it can end up looking funny. Some magazines I have seen, the brown looks very yellow/red-that's why I though tiles. This one looks fab though! Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 2Aug 16, 2009 1:55 pm I am flattered, Sahana . Our walls are 50% Hog Bristle, and this would absolutely work for cabinet colours, in my opinion with the SS. Latte is darker than our Platinum, but would definitely work really well with the SS.
The SS splashback is a true browny colour. I initially chose Cocoa, but felt it was too grey when I saw larger samples. I wanted a light brown with some "movement" and am really happy with SS with my neutral beigey tones. Will your above bench cabinets (if you are having some) be Hog Bristle too? I think it sounds lovely. So if you go looking for the same splash back you may have to take a sample of the Laminex to match the colour. Dulux is one of the main paints behind splash backs and Im sure it will have the right colour but its not called S.S. Good luck hope you can get the perfect colour. Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 5Aug 16, 2009 3:05 pm Stipple Seal laminex is much lighter than my Stipple Seal splashback it's even more obvious now that Michelle has posted the colours together. Sahana- I still have my sample of Stipple Seal glass, if you want to PM me your address, I can post it to you. Then you can take it and try and match it to the colours of your supplier? Would that help? You can also have a good look holding it with your actual colours. Actually, Hog Bristle cupboards will probably be very similar to my Pearl Bisque ones...Pearl Bisque on left, Hogs on right- Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Stipple Seal splashback Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Essa Platinum and Caesarstone Latte Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 6Aug 16, 2009 8:02 pm Caroline, that would be absolutely marvellous! I cannot believe what nice people are on this forum.! Are you sure you do not need it anymore-to match furnishings etc? Also I live in Sydney, so it would have to travel a long way-how big is the sample? I would reimburse you for any expenses. Will pm you my details. Yes, your splashback is a lot darker than the ss laminex sample that I have seen. I wonder why this is so? After all, they're just putting a piece of glass over it. Do they actually use the same colour or mix up a similar colour and call it ss? I have also ben wary of glass as I wanted to avoid an ultra slick modern look but your kitchen is so warm. Michelle, do you think the nicks nook will work with this combo? Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 7Aug 16, 2009 8:43 pm It’s a totally different look to what you were going with, but its still works. It must just look darker when it's hung. Actually, I do recall now when I was choosing colours, I was looking at a darker shade of brown, and the consultant warned me they do look darker when they are up. I got your PM, Sahana, and really, it's no problem. I don't need the sample anymore, and I will manage the cost of postage . It's the size of a drink coaster- I'll pop it in the post tomorrow. Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 9Aug 16, 2009 9:24 pm Thanks so much Caroline-you are so kind! I really appreciate the trouble you are going to. Good karma will repay you many times over I am sure! Michelle, I wasn't quite sure what you meant by your last post until I went up and had a shower and then it came to me! A bit slow on the uptake I am sometimes! What I meant was the with this combo of Hog, Caeserstone Latte and stipple seal in the kitchen, if the family room is adjoining through a square set over the sink benchtop, can I paint one of the walls in the family room Nicks Nook? Other walls in the family room will be Hog as well, full strength. We choose it for the kitchen together with a Blue Pearl Benchtop. Just because I like the colour and the Laminate sample seemed to go well with the granite sample. I tried to balance all that silver in the granite and the SS appliances. Until I saw the photo of this beautiful kitchen I was quite confident that we had done the right thing but now I am not sure anymore. Paintwise we choose Whisper White for the walls and China White for the doors so that might balance it a bit? What do you all think? Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 12Aug 17, 2009 9:19 am Annaleise-are you talking about SS laminex in your kitchen? That comes up much lighter- true to colour. The splashback is different- they look darker when hung. We have a SS benchtop in our laundry, it's not too dark- looks great Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 13Aug 17, 2009 9:49 am The amount of natural and ceiling lighting in the room makes a difference as well. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 14Aug 19, 2009 6:53 am Thanks Caroline and Michelle for your reply, yes I am talking about Laminate and failed to order a large sample before choosing the Stipple Seal, so I just got a little bit spooked. Originally I wanted the high gloss SS so the satin is already a second choice. Great to hear that the end result will be okay especially because we did the whole kitchen in the same colour, body of Breakfast Bar included. There will be quite a bit of natural light during the day and 1 ceiling + 3 breakfast bar light at night. We might have to experience a bit with the type of light then to get a max. result. At the moment we have no idea in regard to the glass splashback but have some time left to wonder about that. Thanks Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 15Aug 19, 2009 9:10 am Thanks Michelle for your earlier reply. I wanted to ask another question if I may. I went with the hog bristle gloss because we will not be getting a lot of natural light in the kitchen. I am a bit concerned that the whole thing is now going to look "too shiny" or too modern. I'd like the look of the house to be more classic rather than too minimalist-maybe classic with a modern twist if there is such a thing?! Does a gloss kitchen with a glass splashback go more with a ultra modern aesthetic? Floors will be timber. Handles-chrome bar handles. Is there any way to warm this up to look more homely? Should I change to satin cabinets? If so then should I have just gone with laminate? Sorry to be a pain. I keep getting anxiety attacks when I think abt my choices? Do my questions make sense? Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 17Aug 19, 2009 10:46 am A bit late on this, but my sister did Stipple Seal for her kitchen cupboards and it isn't too dark at all, she used Virtual Snakeskin for her splashback, and Ice Snow for the benchtop, just thought I would say that Re: stipple seal, latte caeserstone and nicks nook go together? 18Aug 19, 2009 12:22 pm Caroline, you are so kind! I hope it looks as good as yours but now am undecided whether to go full gloss. I think from looking at magazines and shows like homemade, satin seems to be a more popular choice?
