Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Aug 06, 2009 4:52 pm Hi there, so, we've decided on the hog bristle, the lounge room cornice is coming off, its a plaster cornice with a ribbon and bow pattern so coming down and replacing with plain cornice of the same size, we were planning to do this throughout the house but in the bedrooms and corridors there is a skinny cornice, smaller than any new cornice i have seen, no pattern, two or three lines only. I dont like it! but my husband isnt keen to pull it down as when it was built they somehow tied the window frame work into it, hard to explain but it would be very easy to leave as is, painting the ceiling white will make it stand out terribly, we are going for hog bristle full so cant really paint that on ceiling to (although im thinking all one colour would disguise it a bit) anyone else had issues with their cornices? should i just leave them or keep pushing to rip them down??? its not as if they are a frilly pattern thats not going to match our furniture I guess? they are just so thin and odd looking?! Not sure what the point of this post was, maybe I was wanting someone to tell me they'll be the rage next year! Re: Dont like the cornice! 2Aug 06, 2009 4:59 pm How about you paint the cornice the Hog Bristle, this will blend them into the walls, also make your walls look higher Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Dont like the cornice! 3Aug 06, 2009 5:00 pm That's a good idea Michelle. In our current house I painted the cornices in the wall colour and it looked really good. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Dont like the cornice! 5Aug 06, 2009 10:30 pm hi mona, I totally understand your stress, I'm also disappointed with my cornice and don't want people to notice it, but at the end of the day I think it;s only us "owners" who notice our cornices! I think (or at least I'm hoping!!!) that guests only notice the whole look of the room. I know the cornice you are describing and we had that in my parent's home some (?? let's just say a fair while aback.. haha) and I thought it looked ok. I'd prefer yours to mine, mine is the plain one (which is the one I think you want!) but there you go, it's all perspective isn't it! So my theory is to decorate my room to allow for a plain cornice, I wanted one like the New York Boral cove, but the upgrade cost was ridiculous (now I wish I did it!) oh well... Let us know if painting it all the one colour helps. I think that will also make you walls seem slightly higher too, which is a plus! A thankful person is a happy person. Ive never seen this done i dont think... any pics hels? Thanks guys! Below are some pics... the wall colour is very light so it may look similar to the ceilings in the photo. The cornice is quite nice but the reason I painted it was because I was having professionals to do the ceilings so I painted the cornice in the wall colour to keep the cost down. I know you're absolutely right I will stress over it and ill be the only one that notices! Hey i thought you said your cornices were plain! I think they're pretty, they're nice and thick to, not thin like a piece of beading! Thankyou so much for posting, looks great! Re: Dont like the cornice! 8Aug 07, 2009 8:42 am I think your house looks sensational as it is. I vote is to leave it alone and get the hubby to spend his time else where. Garden maybe? The ones that we have at the new house are much nicer so I am happy to show them off Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Very happy today we painted our study after lots of thinking we used dulux hog bristle half in the flat wash and wear paint. Looks soooo good, same colour all over and the flat paint hides the plaster walls cellulite, all looks smooth, even and i can hardly notice the cornice now at all, very happy thanks for all your feedback! Simone ill post pics soon, have to take some! but ill head back tomorrow... The photo is not really clear but to me it looks like twist in the cornice.
