Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 29, 2009 8:49 pm I always said to my husband to shoot me if he heard me talking about putting in feature walls as it meant I had too much idle time on my hands. But... here we are building and looking at colour brochures and "feature wall" has weaseled its way into conversation... This is what I'm thinking: Main bedroom - walls Dulux "Hogs Bristle", feature "Self-destruct" Girls' bedroom - walls "Hogs Bristle 1/4", feature "Fairy Pink" Guest bedroom - walls "Hogs Bristle 1/4", feature "Eaves" Are these colour choices too subtle, not enough contrast? I want to keep a light and airy feel to the house, with the main bedroom feeling a little cosier than the others. Your thought and comments welcome, Kylie Re: Are these colours too washed out for feature walls? 2Jul 30, 2009 7:37 pm Hi Kylie, I’ve looked up your chosen feature wall colours, I think they are fine, especially since you have said you want light and airy. Your choices will give you that, well done! Are there any rules of thumb with regard to feature walls in bedrooms? Is it the safest option to put the colour at the bedhead wall? Are there any no-no's or pitfalls? I guess if I get it wrong, I can always paint over it again Kylie Re: Are these colours too washed out for feature walls? 4Jul 30, 2009 9:22 pm Bed head is good, this way you get to complement the feature wall with cushions and a doona cover in the right colours. That’s why we use this wall, it makes a bigger impact Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Are these colours too washed out for feature walls? 5Sep 12, 2009 6:47 pm Hi, sorry to hijack this post but I'm considering Hogs Bristle quarter for a whole house with Warm Neutral as a feature in the lounge and main bedroom. It's for a rental property. Do you think I would be better off with half strength (1/4 too light) considering it is a rental? Any other recommendations welcome. The architraves are stained. I'd like to paint them but don't have time now. Carpet will be a caramel colour (probably similar to self destruct- not sure as I didn't have samples- haven't purchased yet so can change. Or Hubby suggested as the carpet is a bit darker do HB 1/2 strength up to picture rail then 1/4 strength above that. That would lift it up I guess. Ceiling white?? It's an old fibro place. Any advice gratefully received. Great site. Thanks Lynne Re: Are these colours too washed out for feature walls? 6Sep 12, 2009 7:12 pm If you do a search, I posted some pics of my rental which has 50% HB on some walls, and 25 and 50% on ones with a dado. I had caramel carpet too... Edited to add- here is the slideshow http://s679.photobucket.com/albums/vv15 ... =slideshow Re: Are these colours too washed out for feature walls? 8Sep 14, 2009 10:59 am We had HB 1/2 and 1/4 in our old unit (1/4 above the picture rails, 1/2 beneath, with off-white trims and old polished timber floors) and it looked great - I liked it so much we have HB full-strength in much of our house now. hmmm id assume youll get hit with the "natural product therefore variation in colour etc" excuse. How bad are we talking? One could argue that if none of the displays or… 3 2449 |
