Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 27, 2009 3:21 pm Can anyone recommend a good upholstery company in Melbourne (preferably in the East/South East region). I'd like to get a lounge suite re-covered. Thanks. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I'm thinking about going with a dark purple/plum colour and having some burgundy cushions. I'd also quite like a corduroy fabric as although I like suede, I don't like the fact that you can see all the impressions on it. The lounge room at the new house will have a brown carpet and beige walls. Below is a photo of the couches as they look now. Thoughts anyone? Re: Help with upholsterer in Melb and fabric choice please. 4Jul 28, 2009 11:09 pm Warwick have a good range of fabrics. I had a lounge made a couple of years ago. Paid extra to have non-standard fabric. We got Warwick Velveteen in a lilac colour. Really sumptuous! Warwick also supplied rouche and cord to match the fabric. They have some corduroy style fabrics with a good range of colours. When choosing colours, its most important to see how the colour and shade will look in the room, considering lighting etc. For example... the lilac we chose looked too light in the sample, but it looks much darker when made up. Keep in mind that synthetic fabrics tend to be a bit clammy in summer, as they don't 'breath' like natural fibres. But natural fibres have certain sensitivities, so there can be a trade-off. You should also consider having a good fabric protector professionally applied, such as DuPont Teflon. Ash. Their site lists one in Melbourne here http://www.warwick.com.au/warwick-locat ... spx?view=1 Have fun! Ash. Re: Help with upholsterer in Melb and fabric choice please. 6Jul 28, 2009 11:17 pm g'day hels, I'm not sure plum couches on brown carpet will work??? Maybe I'm wrong, but I spose you'll work that out in due course. As for fabric, def a corduroy, there are so many fabrics out there, def consider a textured fabric to avoid impressions, also, consider a pattern rather than plain to avoid impressions too (also better for stains too). We bought our sofas from Plush sofas and they wanted an extra $65 PER SEAT!! for fabric protection. Great warranty (if we can't get stain out they pay to have the fabric replaced) but that added $330 for the two sofas. So we got a textured fabric (see my blog) and our ottoman will be a jacquard print in similar patterned colours and texture. There is no way these sofas will have impressions. I also would have though impressions come from the quality of the cushion as well as the fabric.. but I'm no expert! Let us know how you go... (PS I agree Warwick is gorgeous - probably pricey too!) Go to a showroom with other decor samples if possible, and see if you can find a fabric that suits. They usually have some helpful staff. Once you've got a few ideas, ask to take a large sample home to look at it in different lights. Then get info about the fabric, and I can give you some ideas what performance you can expect from it. A GOOD fabric protector is worth $65 per seat, but often costs less than that. Suggest though, you DON'T pay the store to have it done. Get the lounge delivered, and (before using it) have a professional carpet cleaning technician apply a quality product. Its a very worthwhile investment! Ash. Re: Help with upholsterer in Melb and fabric choice please. 8Jul 29, 2009 8:44 am That's some great advice, thanks Royalblue - I will check out those fabrics and website, thanks. Annitom - I can't remember the exact colour of the carpet as we don't have a sample. But I do know that it's not a dark brown, it may even have a goldie tinge? I should find out soon enough and then I cam take a photo of the finished room before choosing the fabirc. If anyone else has a colour suggestion (other than plum) please let me know. I don't mind chocolate but wondered if it would be too beige/brown looking in that room I'd like to add a different colour and then have a really nice kick-arse canvas on the wall above it. So that you walk in the room and instantly get the WOW factor The room will have white timber-like venetians at the window and 2 matching plantation shutters inside the voids, which are next to the double door entry. So it's basically a beige room with a splash of white (and some unknown carpet colour ) But NO WAY am I getting white fabric with 2 young kids Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7143 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
