Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 22, 2009 1:39 pm Hi there We are looking for a colour for our cornice/skirting/architraves etc to match: 1. Dulux Warm Neutral walls in bedroom 2. Dulux Hog Bristle Quarter Strength in rest of house We are after a nice contrast colour and were thinking of using Dulux Vivid White, but are worried it might look too cold. On the other hand, we don't want it to look to creamy either. Any comments/suggestions?? Thanks so much!! Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 2Jul 22, 2009 2:55 pm I think your colours will be fine. However I personally like a bit more colour in walls so I would go for full strength Hog Bristle with 1/4 trim or 1/2 Hog bristle with antique white USA trim. Warm Neutral will look great with both of these combinations and you will have a nice contrast. This also would solve any doubts you have about looking too cold. I agree with Kerrin, well done kerrin! I was under the impression from reading some other threads around here that the pink base of Antique White USA would make it look pinkish up against Hog Bristle (full/half/quarter), and that plain white gloss for aves/skirtings/doors with ceiling-white ceiling was a better way to go if you wanted contrast against HB walls. Or have I misinterpreted the other discussions? Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 5Jul 22, 2009 8:33 pm Sorry I don’t see Antique White with pink in it. It might have pink in it, but you don’t see it. I'm thinking we will go with Antique White trim, and 1/2 Hog Bristle rather than 1/4. Really appreciate your help! Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 8Jul 23, 2009 2:24 pm Hi there, I have painted a sample patch of the full hog bristle on the wall of our new house but am yet to go down there to see it during the day, we were thinking the quarter for the doors and trims, we will be putting up the freedom venetians that we have in our current home (cant remember the colour, its the one shade darker than the country oak) do you think this is the right way to go? And also, for those of you using hog bristle full, have you gone ceiling white on the ceilings or carried through with the quartre on ceilings same as door and trims? what do you think? TIA Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 9Jul 23, 2009 2:54 pm Sorry Kerrin didnt notice above you have suggested the hog bristle with quarter, so next question sorry, white ceiling or quarter? having down lights and a couple of wall lights Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 10Jul 23, 2009 3:51 pm I think I’ll say this time…white ceilings. However I am not an expert so you should go with Michelles suggestion Building in Bella Vista Waters Sydney. The Galaxy with Macquarie facade by Young Homes Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 12Jul 23, 2009 9:29 pm My ceilings are also 2.7 high (i learnt this yesterday lol) and we are having the brushed steel downlights, what was it that made you say white this time michelle? the verticals being timber? Im sure either would look great but I do have one question, the HB 1/4, does it look creamy/apricoty? Im a bit paranoid, I have sierra snow walls at the moment, so im comfy with my 'cooler' colours and HB is a warmer than usual choice for me, I like the more mushroomy colours? but i havent seen the Hog bristle in day light yet! only evening light... Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 13Jul 24, 2009 10:36 am I was laying in bed last night thinking about paint (as you do) and I think I'll definately have to go the white ceilings anyway as I just bought a white woven/basket round light shade to hang above the new java table i bought! and the cord is white AND im thinking light/white cupboards for kitchen so may need to tie it in... you know i was a normal and sane person before i bought this house I hope there is a day coming soon where I dont think about colour, fittings and fixtures Re: Cornice/skirting colour to match Warm Neutral & Hog Bristle 14Jul 24, 2009 11:51 am monaclare I hope there is a day coming soon where I dont think about colour, fittings and fixtures Welcome to my world………….. There’s NOT a white to be seen in it! They all have tints and shades added to them, so you are seeing correctly!
