Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 17, 2009 10:57 am I'm hoping someone can help me! I have a reasonably new house, and need to decorate my lounge/dinner, stairs and upstairs hallway. I have previously painted 2 accent walls, with the rest being magnolia. So now I need to decide a new colour scheme, which is where you (hopefully) come in. I have a few items that may dictate the colours I use. A yellow leather sofa, a brightly coloured painting, wooden flooring, plus the fact that the room is generally small and dark, with only a small window. I obviously need to try and make the room look as bright and big as possible...and I like the use of an accent colour. So...suggestions please? The picture could go elsewhere in the house, but the sofa is staying! Check out my photos and let me know your thoughts? Many thanks for your help!! Someone has suggested browns, which I had thought about because of the rug and flooring, and should complement the sofa. HOwever, they suggested the long wall is painted the darker colour...which I think would make the room too dark, and make it feel smaller. Its a small dark room, so antyhing i can to do make it bigger would be good! I may replace the picture with a big mirror...any thoughts?! Re: Interior Design Colour Scheme Help Needed? 5Jul 18, 2009 10:27 am yellow wall (1st pic): the strong colour draws attention to this wall, and the door - Not the best feature of the room to draw attention to. Painting: If you decide to keep the painting in this room I think you need to have some other small elements in the room that echo the red colour (eg change existing or add a red candle by the TV). Dining area by window - you could add dress curtains to the blinds. I think this would not only make the area feel more cozy and help define the area from the rest of the room, it will also draw the eye down the length of the room and away from the less attractive features of the door and staircase. Rug - I not sure, but I feel that it is too small for the area it is currently in - maybe try in the dining area? Re: Interior Design Colour Scheme Help Needed? 6Jul 18, 2009 10:28 am The only way to make the space larger is to paint it all a light colour, no feature walls. Then use an accent colour for the cushions and so forth. I would suggest an off white for the walls, and that’s it! No deep colours! More colourful paintings on the walls and there’s all the colour you need in such a tight space. Also for a small space, you need to keep items, decorative or household to a minimum, to much could end up looking like clutter.
