Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jul 08, 2009 4:13 pm Hi Everyone, I have a bit of a problem Im not happy with the colour of my vanity cupboards. They are too creamy and dont match the tiles as well as id like. those little samples make it too hard to tell I will probably change the colour after handover. Im wanting something more white. How do I do that?? Can you buy laminate and re-laminate them?? or can they be painted?? Id rather try and change it than replace them and have to buy new cupboards They are a flint finish ( not shiny) Any Suggestions?? Living in Caloundra Thread****** Lovin my house all finished!!! Your options are – 1) Buy a new one! 2) Get someone to re-laminate the whole surface, probably cheaper to buy a new one. 3) Painting???? Now that’s a bit drastic, but it can be done. I didn't have much money and couldn't get replacement laminate doors because they couldn't match up the drawer attachments. The doors and drawer fronts were made from cheap chipboard which had become damp, expanded and the laminate was chipping off. I was lucky enough to pick up a bit of white laminate from Bunnings for about $10 (it was damaged in the corner). .. I picked off all the damaged bits of laminate from the doors and sanded them down, it was easy enough to apply the new laminate, I cut it to size (so it overlapped the door front by a few millimetres) and ironed it onto the drawer front (using a common household iron), then lay the drawer on the chopping board and ran a craft knife down the lengths to trim. . . came up really well! Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can! Best part of it was that I was able to change the horrible off-white plastic knobs to nice stainless handles, as the new vinyl covered the original hole! Yay! Re: Question about Laminate 7Jul 08, 2009 9:25 pm Thanks Michelle for moving it! And thanks jodge- i might try that after handover. I didnt know bunnings sold it!! Thats great. Ill pop in on the weekend and have a look. Is it very expensive to buy?? Im so upset that i dont like them Oh well at least it sounds as though i can fix them!! I don't think it would work on the vacuum formed vinyl types. Worth having a go though I suppose, if you're only going to have to replace the doors anyway, may be able to get away with a cheaper job if you have a go yourself! Re: Question about Laminate 10Jul 09, 2009 10:39 pm Sorry to hear you're not happy with them If it's just the cupboard doors you want to change, that's easy done When we redid the 3rd last house, the cabinets were exactly what I wanted EXCEPT the doors REALLY needed updating. So we took them to a laminate kitchen place where they made exactly what I wanted even putting on the hinges from the old doors and I replaced them. easy peasy, took a few days and less than $200!
