Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 30, 2009 2:15 pm Ok - I really need help! My hubby and I are about 4 weeks away from our house being finished. We are in the process of buying furniture, but we are stuck on colours. We have white walls and white ceilings. Our kitchen cupboards are white (overhead) and the base cupboards are a light woodgrain. Our island bench is white caesar stone and the underpanel is also in the wood grain. Our windows are stained timber. We will have white hollands on these windows. Our rumpus room joins our dining, where we will have white carpet, walls & ceiling, and chocolate timber shutters/venetians on the high theatre style windows. We have a latte/mocha coloured lounge. We will also have a latte/mocha rug on the carpet. My question is - should we go with a white high gloss dining table, TV unit, coffee table and buffet, or chocolate? If we go with the white, should we have white dining chairs or latte/mocha to tie the lounge in with the dining? I am worried that bringing in chocolate to the dining, that there will be yet another colour added to the woodgrain and windows (these are not the same colours) and it may look a little messy. It is all so confusing! Any advice would be great. Thanks Building M3tric0n Newhaven in Sovereign Gardens Re: Colours for furniture 2Jun 30, 2009 2:50 pm So interesting you have posted this. We have similar colour to you by the sounds of it. We are struggling to find inspiration/ideas and all furniture for our new house so I definately feel your pain. We cant even find a dining suite or couch that we both like. Looks like we will be moving in shortly without anything to sit on Best way to enjoy our new timber flooring Id say Love to hear what everyone thinks. So they sort of all flow together. You can see the dining and kitchen from the lounge, and part of the lounge from the dining/kitchen. I was dreaming about furniture all night again last night! Building M3tric0n Newhaven in Sovereign Gardens Re: Colours for furniture 6Jul 01, 2009 6:29 pm I’ll go out on limb here; I know a few will disagree with me as they like white. But I would stick to the chocolate with your furniture. 2 Reasons, 1, very important one, I think white furniture will date quite quickly, sorry to anyone else with white. 2, I think the chocolate will be more complementary with your other selections. Sorry for the short reply, I’m a bit busy. Exactly; which is why I think you should go colour rather than white. If chocolate is as much colour as you can handle, so be it. Different shades of brown as you've described are complementary in my book, and add texture. You need not use the exact same shade everywhere, and I would argue that it's better not to. Re: Colours for furniture 11Jul 03, 2009 10:12 pm Yep, I agree. Your house is even whiter than my house - and I thought my house was white. Its got white porcelain tiles, white ceilings, wall, archs, skirts. But light brown carpets.. Ill go through the furniture in the house to give ya an idea.. Formal lounge: leather beige lounge, 2 leather white single armchairs, marble coffee table Dining: mid-timber dining table w/ chocolate leather chairs Family: beige lounge suite - no coffee table for more space! Rumpus: leather chocolate chaise lounge, mid-timber coffee table (matching dining suite) - with red woollen throws/cushions for a splash of colour So go colour, dont be scared!! If you wanna play it safe, go for all white and add colour through textiles like rugs, throws and cushions etc.. Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!!
