Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 23, 2009 11:18 pm Hi Michelle, I would really appreciate your help if you have the time. For the dozenth time now, l'm second guessing my colour choices...Again it's my kitchen! Am happy with all the colours as I wanted a light kitchen seeing that we'll have no kitchen window, but after seeing my 3D plan of my kitchen today the doubts have crept in. l think l may have gone too light to the point of being bland! Here are my colours: All cupboards - Formica Champagne velour Benchtop - Natural Tigris Floor tile, splashback tile (Urban Sand) and feature tile - as below (the pic ain't that great quality sorry) IRL the splashback tile is a tad lighter than the Champagne. Wall colour - Solver Intermezzo (also not a true indication of actual colour, but l know that you know what it looks like ) Kitchen layout: I am thinking that my benchtop and feature tile won't add enough contrast to the light cabintetry, splashback tile and paint. I can't change the cabintery, paint or floor colours (nor do l want to) so l am thinking of changing the splashback tile to one that is darker but so it still lighter than the Natural Tigris and also still makes the feature tile a feature. Is this doable, and if so what colour tile should l aim for??? or am l panicking unnecessarily?.....arrghhh, please help!! *sleepless night in bed here l come* Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 3Jun 24, 2009 10:32 am thorney….I’ll take a look later tonight at home. I need all my colours around me. I think my kitchen will be too bland? 4Jun 24, 2009 9:19 pm I had plenty of time to think about this last night (worst night sleep ever!) and l am more resolved than ever that my kitchen will look nice but bland. I couldn't get a gloss benchtop to give the kitchen some 'oomph' to it so l'm thinking of going for a gloss splashback tile that is darker than the tigris...not whopping big difference dark...but a tad darker Hi Judie..thanks for your thoughts Hmm, as for the feature tile, the thought of making it wider did cross my mind also, we'll see. I may have to change it altogether if it doesn't suit the new tile...and that's ok I really like the current feature tile but l'm sure there will be plenty of others l'll like just as much Thanks Michelle.....Looking forward to your expertise on this Re: Second guessing again! Get the same glass mosaics in a green see what you think about that combo. Yup l can't change the cabinets/benchtop...l'm happy with those anyway....it's the splashback tile l can and want to change (and feature tile if necessary). Love glass mosaics....but am not a fan of green. I want to keep the kitchen in cream and browns but l think l have way too much cream at the moment Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 10Jun 24, 2009 10:29 pm What about a different glass mosaic border? Something like this: http://www.thetilecentretas.com.au/mosa ... 17117.html Judie Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 11Jun 24, 2009 10:58 pm Oooh l really like the Travertine one...delicious. I'm still thinking that the feature tile is not the issue. Here's a pic of Taffy's kitchen (which l absolutely adore!) This is the colour scheme that mine will be (well it's the closest l can find, lol) it'll give you an idea of why l feel the way l do.... It's understated colour wise but absolutely gorgeous. Take into account too that although we have the same amount of overheads, my bench will extend to where her fridge is (stud to stud is 3.72m long), so there is alot more cream happening in my kitchen for the splashback area...plus l have cream drawers below as well. I also have matt cupboards with no mouldings. So nothing really special to give it that oomph. I want some more oomph! Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 12Jun 25, 2009 8:44 am Hi Thorney Ok, First my splashback isnt glass is a 600x600 porcelain floor tile! I went for moleskin doors which is similar to yours I think. I then went for laminex cocoa nougat for benchtop. Now............... In my last house I had wilson art evening tigris as my kitchen bench top. ( are you sure you posted the correct pic as that one looks like evening tigris). I thought natural was a lot lighter, and I know they used to have a green one too. I have got evening tigris in my ensuite and bathrooms. I wish now that I had it in the kitchen as well I LUVVVVV it It offers a lovely contrast tones in the colours you like ie choc mocca and It is a bit deeper than the cocoa nougat I have now. I may be biased but.. if Or when I build again I think I will have this again, Unless something else really jumps out at me!also because it has that like paper cut rip pattern in it, it is soooooooo easy to keep clean and doesnt show up any marks. I think it would go with your tiles as well, other wise there are loads that match it It only cost me $700 to upgrade to 2 pack with Alatalo as they allowed satin or laminex finish in their base price, dont know how this compares to what your builder will charge though. So just my advice, as you alread like the tigris range and you like brown tones I can highly recomend evening tigris Ok I just found the natural tigris sorry it is more browner! but I still thing the chocolate tones are lovely and they may go with your tiles Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ By taff Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ By taff Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 13Jun 25, 2009 9:01 am Hi Taffy, LOL!! it looked like glass to me, as it was soo shiny lol Yeah it's the correct pic, like most colour samples online, they do not reflect the true colour. The natural tigris is lighter and the Intermezzo is much lighter also than the sample posted. Too late to upgarde to 2-pac, too late to change any of the cabintry colours, and as l said earlier l'm happy with them and won't be changing them. It's the splashback tile (and feature tile if necessary) is what l can and want to change. Re: Second guessing again! I think my kitchen will be too bland? 14Jun 25, 2009 9:09 am We just crossed posts I went back and edited mine Yes I * and went floor tiles (leftovers) and got a glass "look " splash back for no cost I didnt read your post properly If your keeping your cabinets I think what you have picked is fine If you are going with the feature tile you need a lighter base tile to make it stand out. The other thing you could do is do away with the feature tile alltogether and put a darker base tile and maybe have a straight edge chrome strip running 3rd of the way up, that would give it some depth at the back and the chrome will blend in with your appliances You could go with one of those deep colour embossed pattern tiles they also look good. Edited again You could also add some colour to that high part that is covering your sink maybe put the splash back colour on there! Or in time you could stick some stack stone under your breakfast bar! theres lots of ways to add colour Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Second guessing again! Something like this: http://www.thetilecentretas.com.au/mosa ... 17117.html Judie Hi Thorney, Hang in there, I know it's hard when you start second guessing your color choices. I actually have to agree with something like what Judie has mentioned, I REALLY like the last patterned tile on that link, it's really stunning, although I think one of the other one's may go really well with your kitchen colors, which are also very beautiful, I can't wait to see you thread with kitchen pics...Yiippppeeeee, not long now! Good-Luck with your decision, this is just my 2 cents for you. I think my kitchen will be too bland? 16Jun 26, 2009 10:23 pm Thank you everyone for your suggestions, l do appreciate it With all my samples in hand l went to the tile shop (for what seems the 20th time since we started the building process )...after a half an hour or so l am finally at peace with my kitchen colours...I have a new splashback tile and new feature tile I did consider just changing the feature tile to something darker but l couldn't shake off the "my kitchen has too much cream" vision in my head (l spent a few hours playing with Paint, lol). So l ended up going with a darker splashback tile, Cappuccino (gloss) and a new all glass mosaic feature tile which l'm rapt with as each colour ties in all the colours in my kitchen. Cappuccino, Natural Tigris, a bluey-grey to tie in the stainless steel appliances and a white/cream to tie in the white Saturn power points. As for the olivey one....doesn't tie into anything in particular...but there you go Michelle l've used green! I took a couple of pics...the lighting was really bad (or more like my photography skills suck, lol) but you get the idea Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ To me, it's all looking good going by the samples....just gotta pray now that it all comes together in on a much larger scale! Michelle's comment about getting out there and having a look is really good advice but it is nice to have her to narrow down the choices! No. It's not original.
