Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 09, 2009 12:27 pm Hi, A newbie here. I have been reading all the threads on chosing the 'right white' and thought you might be able to help. Trying to choose a colour to go through the whole house - want a whitey neutral that will go with our existing colours of furniture, kitchen etc. I have painted boards with sample pots and have been moving them room to room. Colours I like best are China White and Whisper White - I really like China White but not sure if it will be light enough. Throughout the house we have Vic Ash floorboards, all ceilings, doors, windows and picture rails are white. The kitchen is white with bluey grey benchtops (looks like watermarks). Family room furniture is light wood (limed elm) and blue couch (similar colour to benchtops). Lounge and dining room have dark wooden furniture and leather couch is brown - more of a reddy brown than chocolate. Kids bedrooms all have dark wooden furniture. Will China white work? Any other suggestions - but not Antique White USA - it looks pink in our house. Thanks Fik Re: Help needed with colours - China White? 2Jun 09, 2009 6:39 pm fik….this is a bit hard, as I don’t know how much natural light comes into your rooms. I’ve looked at the China white, it looks good, but as I said not sure on your light. This will make a huge difference to what it will look like once all over the walls. It should be ok….paint some on a bigger sample than your board, get it up on a fair bit of the wall. The back part of the house with the extension has two french doors and big windows in between that all face north. The kids bedrooms face north or west. These rooms are all painted in a buttery yellow colour (Wattyl Sugar Cookie) It's the front lounge and dining room that is where I really want to brighten up. They have east and south facing windows. Our bedroom also faces south. The house is a 1940's clinker brick - the lounge and dining room have half height corner windows. The front rooms at the moment dont feel right - the dining room is painted a deep green and the lounge a deep blue. Ceilings are 9" and the front rooms (lounge, dining, two bedrooms) all have picture rails. I was thinking I could maybe paint the China White below the picture rails and Whisper White above. Does that help a bit more? Fik Re: Help needed with colours - China White? 4Jun 09, 2009 7:59 pm I would not like to see those 2 colours together; to me they don’t jell well. I would rather you did full Chine white on the lower of the dado and ½ strength on the top. Does that make sense? I'll go and get a sample pot of half strength china white and see how that goes - it might end up being a better colour to do the whole wall in. Thanks again. Fik Re: Help needed with colours - China White? 6Jun 09, 2009 8:38 pm Yes sorry about that, I’m working on a room here at home with chair rails, and got mixed up! Maybe the lighter on the bottom and the darker on the top? I think it just has a nice 'warmth' to it - not stark...if that makes sense Here are a couple of photo's from when we were moving in: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hope this helps!
