Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 06, 2009 10:59 pm Hi Michelle, I posted this in my other thread, but thought of posting it here too... to get some expert advice and more feedback from others. Just wondering what's your opinion on these paintings (actually, most were wood carvings except for the last one) - sorry for the quality of photos, we took these using DH's phone: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ with this one, we're thinking of placing the ones on the left and right in our niche (located left and right side of our HT room). We are in the process of decorating our walls and this is our first time to visit a shop for some paintings (we didn't realise that most were wood carvings!). Also, we finally found the entertainment unit that we've been looking for! Here it is... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My question is.. which colour to choose: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I really like the darker one (to match our dining table - wonder if you saw that pyramid table that I posted before), but DH prefers the lighter one (left), as he thinks it might look too dark already in our Family room with this sofa: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I never bought light-coloured furnitures... but with this sofa, do you think it would be too dark to have a dark-coloured TV unit? We have leather dining chairs in taupe. Would really appreciate your opinion... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Help me choose please... 2Jun 06, 2009 11:21 pm Hey VJ, These are my thoughts but I would think you could also put in the dark colour aswell. It seems to me you have lots of light in your room so I think you could handle the dark colours but I am also a fan of mixing colours and textures of furniture. You will have added some more light wood by using the carved light wood wall art and maybe some similar wheat coloured cushions. Love the all the pieces you have chosen. From the image on my computer the Entertainment Unit looks like more like a Beige type colour rather than a Golden Colour like the Ferns, but i could be wrong. Personally i am not into having to many different colours in shades of wood grain for furniture etc, but that is just my personal taste. As Gweluphome said it looks like you have plenty of light in that area so the dark coloured Entertainment Unit would look fine. Hope that helps you in your decision. Love the all the pieces you have chosen. gweluphome, we have lots of light in our family room. Two very wide but slim windows to two sides of the walls (north and east-facing) and bi-fold doors to one side. We are planning to put in dark-coloured plantation shutters to those windows (so again, dark.. ). good suggestion about the wood carving, but we can't put any artworks on the walls, as we have windows to both sides of the walls (3m x .8m approx). Even the very nice lamp that we ordered have a dark-coloured timber frame and wheat lamp shade. We're thinking to throw in light-coloured cushions (the ones in the photo are our old ones) to compensate for the dark-coloured lounge and furnitures. But I really like that second one. Lounge suite looks nice too. S&P, I don't know the shop name, sorry. All I remember is that it looks like a warehouse selling discontinued items from different shopes like Freedom, Guest, and many more. Guess how much is that 2nd wood carving? It's I think around $200+ ($240 or $260, from memory) only! All the items on sale are way below their purchase cost (it was indicated on the price tag). We were not yet thinking of buying artworks, but because of the price, I think it's about time to buy some . I think think the most expensive one is the 1st one - approx $400+. So based on the price you saw from Suite Deals, I guess this will be a good buy! But we have to rush back.. as there's only one more left for all of these items the we showed here. Our lounge suite is from King - we love it! If we remove the cushion, it's so big and can work as a sofa bed! Our porcelain tiles have some tinge of olive green. On my part, I'm just used to dark-coloured furnitures. Decision, decision... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Hopefully Melbourne??? And I know for sure that wood carving was NOT as cheap as $200, I wouldve bought it already!! S&P, I know the shop now... all the while I thought it was a 'no name' warehouse . We went back yesterday and bought the three wood carvings!!!!!!!!!!! It's name is BIG BRAND OUTLET in Sunshine (Shop 1, 474 Ballarat Rd). They sell discontinued, seconds & returned items of different stores. Some items have damages and good thing the ones that we bought have very minor ones and they weren't obvious at all (e.g. small dent to the wood on one side). We thought of coming back yesterday just to see if we would still like it. But as soon as we entered the shop, we couldn't help but buy them all! They gave us further discount because of the quantity that we bought. The sales guy there told us that the normal retail price for the ones in photos 2 & 3 were around $600 (depending on the store). For the 1st one, it's a bit dearer. DH is currently hanging them.. will post photos as soon as he's done! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! I think the dark in the cabinet, the light wood will stand out, as it will be the only light furniture in the room. Your walls are light enough to make up for any dark furniture! The last photo of the prints, are very out there, love them, and perfect for niches. Go for it…. By the way, I haven’t read everyone else’s replies….so sorry if I have doubled up with anyone. Go for it…. oh Michelle, thanks for the re-assurance that a dark cabinet would work well with our dark lounge. now i can show your response to DH and seal the choice! it's going to be the dark-coloured entertainment unit!!! and yes, we have light walls... but we're thinking of putting a feature colour just behind where the TV would be. it's either going to be green, orange or brown. we have orange as our feature wall upstairs - Leisure area. we're thinking of using same colour either in the Dining or Family area. Do you think we should have one feature wall in the Dining and Family? Or can we choose different colours? about the yummy floor tiles, good thing we requested our builder not to tile our powder and laundry areas downstairs! that way we have the same floor tiles in the ground floor. about the prints for our niche... unfortunately, we couldn't put it there.. it won't fit due to the light switch and security system controls located in one of the niches! i guess we have to think of other options for those niches. Quote: Just love that entertainment unit! Must come with a lofty price tag? And yes your tiles look fabulous. Howie, it is indeed a bit expensive. thus, needs a lot of thinking as to the size, colour and orientation (you can choose if you want drawers, cupboards, 2-pack, timber veneer, etc.). the standard 2.4m is approx $4k. we are going to order either 3m ($5.3K) or 3.6m (7.7K). we actually ordered one at Natuzzi.. but when they delivered, it has some damage. 2nd delivery, same thing. so we cancelled but went with the lamp... still awaiting it though.. normally takes months to wait for delivery! good thing we were able to cancel.. because this furniture is Australian made (from Tasmania), so it's much better for the economy... and looks way better than the one at Natuzzi. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Help me choose please... 16Jun 08, 2009 9:21 pm Ok, I've actually already posted the photos from my other thread... but no harm in updating this one too.. after all, i owe it to the people here who responded to my plea to help us decide which one to buy.. but.. we chose them all (can't decide which one NOT TO BUY, as they all look great! and got further discount too)! 1st one.. the biggest one.. along the ground floor hallway just in front of our study area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ can you see the damage on this one? i noticed it only when i was editing the photos! it's the lower right-hand side of the 2nd frame from the left. notice that the timber has a darker shade on it? DH tried sanding it off to make it a bit lighter.. some turned lighter, but not all.. we realised it's the timber itself that's a bit dark on that side. but that's fine, it's a big bargain anyway and it's not noticable when you first look at it. a few steps from the hallway... to the right is our dining area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ OMG, i realised that we've been here in our new house for almost 6 months and we still have Redi-blinds! that's the result of the economic crisis.. even the table doesn't have anything on top of it. but because it's my favourite table, it's more than enough for me. we will put a buffet table just below the frames in the same dark timber veneer as the table. feature colour - undecided whether to go for a green or burnt orange colour. time to go upstairs...
