Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Jun 03, 2009 5:53 pm Hi, I really love the idea of a deep red splashback. I'm thinking either henna red or sparkling shiraz. However, there is a lot of area to cover and I'm concerned that it may be way too much. What do you think? I have attached a picture of the kitchen we will be building. Overhead cabinets: white perspex (solid colour) Underneath cabinets: white laminex. Island cabinets: one of either... Burnished Wood http://www.kitchenbenchtops.com/images/products/thumb/24012008094920burnished-wood-laminex-tn.jpg Smokey Sapelle http://www.laminex.com.au/resource/images/samples/small_images/smoky_sapelle.jpg Lustruous Elm http://www.flatpackitchens.com/images/products/30012008120723lustrous-elm-laminex.jpg Benchtops: Brook Pebble laminex (not waterfall style) http://www.qualiform.com.au/images/lam_brookpebble_large.jpg Flooring: Laminate floor 'valencia oak' http://www.cgtimberflooring.com.au/images/lamin1.JPG I am debating whether or not to have a woodgrain laminate for either end of the overheads (the same design as the one in the photo) or just keep it all white perspex. If we did do that then I think the burnished wood might be too dark - I don't really like the contrast... My other concern is that the last two island cabinet options may clash a little with the floor (too similar?). What do you think? I want Dulux Red Buff.....I think that our splashback wall will be similar to yours. Our kitchen will be the white gloss and the red splashback. Our bench will go right across and the microwave will go under the bench. I am having the glass cupboards above like your photo. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 4Jun 03, 2009 8:32 pm Your building with Carlisle? The Prominence is a great home!! We built the Atlantique 36, and have the metallic sparkling shiraz glass splashback. It will definitely work with the all-white kitchen!!! I really love the display kitchen in Lyndhurst and am tossing up between that colour scheme and an all white one...it takes me forever to decide what to order at McDonalds, how am I ever going to make these decisions??? Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 6Jun 04, 2009 4:45 pm jem, our kitchen colour scheme is very similar to the Lydnhurst Atlantique, but we built the Caroline Springs facade. Here are the colours in brief, if I can remember them.., - Osprey Caesarstone benchtop, with drop downs to island - metallic sparkling shiraz glass splashback - oyster linea base cupboards - licorice ligna shelf and winerack - white/silver overhead perspex (all our overheads are in the perspex, with a shelf as well like this: http://www.carlislehomes.com.au/atlantique2.html , except we ahve that overheads design, but l shape layout). Remember you can get the perspex in the type like in your display home, or like the full glass one. The one in Lyndhurst Prominence has the other type, and I dont particularly like this because the stuff in the cupboard is visible through the glass. And btw our tiles are white porcelain with speckles, very similar to the caesar stone - and you can notice it at the corner of the drop down and tile - I really like how it flows!! Have you been to your Spectra appt yet? There are heaps of ideas and inspriation you can get there!! I think if you go for your allwhite scheme with the shiraz splashback, it will really bounce and have the wow factor. And, youll never get sick of neutral colours like white!! Best of luck and hope you make good choices!! Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! I had a peek and it is very nice. I bet it looks fantastic in real life. I still love the Red Buff but I am wondering if I should get something subtler like that champagney type colur? I wonder if I will chicken out and get that instead of the red, but I do love it. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 10Jun 04, 2009 11:12 pm Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 12Jun 05, 2009 8:38 am Sdabel, your kitchen does look really good!! Jem, looking at sdabel's kitchen which is similar light neutral style to the one you posted, I think his looks much better with the splash of colour, the top one looks bland and dull to me and needs something to brighten it up - not neccesarily red, but a splash of any strong colour. Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 13Jun 05, 2009 9:05 pm I only had a quick glance at this post, but I would not put a red with that deep brown laminate you are using. You need something lighter and brighter to make a contrast. And also, IMO, no timber on the sides of the island benches. Yeah I agree Michelle, earlier in the thread I suggested to do all-white, with a stunning red/purple glass. Why the no timber on sides? Not that I have timber in my kitchen.. LOL, stone waterfalls in mine!! Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! S&P - love your colour choices! I've been to Spectra about 6 times now (how can I resist when I only live 10 mins away and am home with bubs during the day?). I can't get enough. But am I any closer to making a decision...um...no. My colour selection is 6 days away...gulp. Though I am kind of geting to the point where it's like, "oh yeah that'll do, whatever". I agree that the photo doesn't do the splashback justice at all. It looks fab in real life. So you think the burnished wood is too dark? I notice you chose a lighter colour instead of the darker colour the display used. We won't be having the waterfall stone benchtop. Actually, we just decided to get the caesarstone. So we would have the wood on the sides of the benchtop. I would be interested to know why that wouldn't work so well. sdabel - Great kitchen! So vibrant! themax - we too are considering a champagne colour with all cabinetry white. W would then dress up the surrounding walls with vibrant artwork and bright kitchen appliances. Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 16Jun 09, 2009 11:39 pm jem, I think the problem with the Lyndhurst kitchen is that there is not much of a contrast between the cabinetry colours. You should go for the Espresso Ligna overheads and Oyster Linea bases like ours, if you want. Or instead of the Oyster, try Polar White as base... OR, all white everything, and break it up with the Sparkling Shiraz glass. All white, you will not ever gt bored of, because its neutral and wont date quickly. And remember, our kitchen is mainly based on Caroline Springs, with the Lyndhurst glass. Michelle, whats wrong with timber on the sides of the bench?? Do you mean laminate or the timber imitation colour? Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! This kitchen is nice enough with out adding too many extras, like a timber side on the waterfall. Sometimes less is best! So by timber sides, do you mean imitation timber laminate colours, or a laminate side in general?? And jem is considering a red/shiraz glass splashback, and perhaps dark choc/brown/allwhite cupboards. Do you think it wont look good without stone waterfalls?
