Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 21Jun 10, 2009 10:16 pm Yeah, we will get stone benchtops (not laminate anymore) but I don't think we will upgrade to get the waterfall sides. But maybe the dark brown is too much, I'm going off it...every day I change my mind. I like so many different things, it's hard to decide what is just right. Let's see what I'm thinking next Monday on the day of my colour selection... Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 22Jun 10, 2009 10:40 pm jem, dont leave your selections too late or youll be copping it afterwards with the variation fees!!!! So what colours are you thinking for the kitchen??? Oh and your building Prominence yeah? Make sure your island bench has shadowline and the laminate sides are the thicker ones, the thin ones look ugly and fake. What colours are you thinking now? Im still leaning towards the sparkling shiraz glass, stone (what colour??), and Polar White cupboards with ALL perspex doors on overheads. TRUST me, all perspex looks REALLy stylish and sophisticated.. And get the perspex that looks glossy/glassy, not the frosty one. Go all white, that way you cant go wrong and youll regret NOTHING! Let me know how you go with your colours.. Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! Not waterfall, is this the sorta look you want in your island? Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! I'm thinking either henna red or sparkling shiraz. However, there is a lot of area to cover and I'm concerned that it may be way too much. What do you think? I have attached a picture of the kitchen we will be building. Overhead cabinets: white perspex (solid colour) Underneath cabinets: white laminex. Island cabinets: one of either... Burnished Wood http://www.kitchenbenchtops.com/images/products/thumb/24012008094920burnished-wood-laminex-tn.jpg Smokey Sapelle http://www.laminex.com.au/resource/images/samples/small_images/smoky_sapelle.jpg Lustruous Elm http://www.flatpackitchens.com/images/products/30012008120723lustrous-elm-laminex.jpg Benchtops: Brook Pebble laminex (not waterfall style) http://www.qualiform.com.au/images/lam_brookpebble_large.jpg Flooring: Laminate floor 'valencia oak' http://www.cgtimberflooring.com.au/images/lamin1.JPG I am debating whether or not to have a woodgrain laminate for either end of the overheads (the same design as the one in the photo) or just keep it all white perspex. If we did do that then I think the burnished wood might be too dark - I don't really like the contrast... My other concern is that the last two island cabinet options may clash a little with the floor (too similar?). What do you think? Just bumping this down. S&P....I may have read this too quickly! I want a quite bright wine red. My trouble is that want it to match some paint I'm going to use on a small feature wall. So I don't know whether to choose a paint colour and get the splashback colour matched or start with the splashback and then try to work out the paint...?? Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 26Jun 11, 2009 4:01 pm englyn, you can match both, for example, the splashback I like is called DULUX Red Buff. That is ho wthey get he colours I think FROM the paint. SO I would just buy Dulux Red Buff in paint to match it for the wall. I guess it depends which company is doing the splashback and which paint brands they use. I have noticed that most of them say that they can doo paint matching if you prefer. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 27Jun 11, 2009 5:13 pm I found a pic in a magazine that I really like. I might try and emulate that. So now I am thinking: Overheads - white perspex all the way across (glossy and not the frosted stuff). Under cupboards - White laminex Island bench - White laminex all the way around. Back benchtop - Osprey caesarstone (is tis cat 1??) Island benchtop - 20mm Espresso or Walnut caesarstone (are these cat 1???), no waterfall edge Splashback - the one in the mag was Dulux Charlie Horse, which is a lightish brown. So the idea is to have the splashback a feature in the background and have a complementary benchtop in the foreground. The back osprey benchtop will blend in with the white cabinetry. The browns will complement our wooden dining table and the wall shelving we will have close by. THEN I will add colour with pendant lights (maybe) or stools or appliances. With the decision needing to be made on Monday, I don't we will be ready to commit to red! S&P - thanks for the tip: "Make sure your island bench has shadowline and the laminate sides are the thicker ones, the thin ones look ugly and fake". I don't really know what you mean but I will ask about it!!! Actually, I will just ask you, what do you mean? haha Oh - I just got an email from my sales rep saying "No" to having two coloured benchtops in the kitchen I will work on it... Oh no - I've forgotten to take the lemon tart out of the oven....eeek Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 28Jun 11, 2009 6:00 pm jem, your colour choices sound great, glad you went for all white, with some contrast!! And you will be comfortable with your sekections, as its int he mag!! Well done! Osprey is category 1, we have this - its a great colour! Not sure about the other colours though.. I also like the idea of having two colours stone, nice idea! But your sales person said no?? This is weird, they had 2 colour stone in the old Pagoda 35 Mk 1 display, Melington lyndhurst! Theyre ****** to you, get onto it!!! What I mean by shadowline and thick laminate sides is.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Arrow 1 shows the 'shadowline'.. this is the gap between benchtop and cupboards.. makes it look nicer. But depends on your taste. Arrow 2 shows a thick laminate side.. it looks better when its thicker, but again depends on your liking. BTW this is Pagoda display. Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! I asked the lady and she told me it was Dulux Red Buff, perhaps I was mistaken? I think that particular supplier was Hornsby Glass (don't know them, never dealt with them). I will check up on that myself...sorry if I have mislead you. ...I have just checked my notebook and I have written Red BUFF, so perhaps the lady gave me the wrong info? Will look into it. OK, just called them and the man was very nice. He said...Red Buff has been discontinued by Dulux. It has been replaced by a SIMILAR (not the same, I confirmed with him, but similar) colour which has a code and has not been named yet (poor baby ). There is a colour called Red BLUFF but it is slightly lighter. Well I prefer to go darker than lighter myself, but he also said that there is another colour called HOLLYBERRY (of course) and that I would probably like that. SO, IF I was to go through them (I have no idea at present who I will use) I should mention to them about the Red BUFF colour and they will give me that EXACT Red Buff colour. Phew, hope that helps, it sorted things out in adavnce for me so thanks! www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 32Jun 20, 2009 6:36 pm hi everyone, i'm new in this forum. Just bought a land and will start building in December 09. My color appointment is next month and need some advice on the kitchen. I want to have red glass splashback but is there any other color for the kitchen laminate that will match other than white? I like deep brown color and saw images from google that I think looks nice. Anyone can advice me? thanks Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 33Jun 20, 2009 7:12 pm Hi nadiaa, Welcome. I have seen the red done with a nice taupe type colour (similar to a cappucino colour) and I think it looks great. There will be lots of advice here so I am sure that you will get plenty of ideas and inspiration. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Red splashback too much for this kitchen? 34Aug 10, 2009 8:03 pm Hi Jem, Just joined the forum.
