Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 27, 2009 9:43 pm We have a large open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area to paint. My problem is that the kitchen is very bright and sunny, but the lounge is quite dark without a lot of light. The dining is between these areas and is quite bright. When I test paint in the kitchen, the colour is perfect, but in the lounge it is completly different! I love white, but feel it would be too cold as we live in a very cold climate. We will be polishing the floors and adding rugs...I'de like to have a cosy feel....our ceilings are 3.3m high! How do I go about having a light and airy kitchen and a cosy lounge in one area??? Re: Help wanted for internal colours please!!!!! 2May 27, 2009 9:50 pm I can't wait to see your house! HUGE polished concrete fan here!! Off topic -but what are you going to do for heating if you're in a cold climate and have high ceilings, that's going to be a tough job. Advising on colour is really not one of my strengths, but Hog Bristle popped into my mind - I think that's what its called. Its a lovely warm colour but still gives that classy look like white does. It's very popular on the forum, I'm sure if you did a quick search you'd find lots of pictures. Re: Help wanted for internal colours please!!!!! 3May 28, 2009 8:39 am Well, the problem is that a lot of brown colours tend to look very dirty/ orangy in the lounge! For heating we have a new freestanding fire and a reverse cycle 9.5 kw heater!! I came prepared! We also have 4 boys, so white can be a bit wearing on the old arms! I love polished concrete myself, but here??? Not a chance! I have tried a gorgeous colour called Heifer which is a lovely brown/grey...very french, but it has a purple tinge in the lounge!!! Maybe 2 colours?? I have tried to upload pics, but they are too big! Will take some more!! Cheers!! Re: Help wanted for internal colours please!!!!! 4May 28, 2009 9:58 am Your pics need to be no larger than 800 Pixels, resize them before loading them up. I’d like to see the pics, sounds like your concrete is throwing colour onto the walls. Therefore change the hue of the colours. You are probably right about the floor throwing colour...we currentlt have dark blue carpet in the lounge!! Will be ripped up after painting. How do you resize pics?? Do you have any ideas? The colours I love are duckegg, red white with timber & charcoal. I was planning on a kitchen with white cupboards, mineralstone diamond gloss benchtops with blue/green glass splashback & polished timber floors, but not sure if this will look to cold or not. The lounge needs to have a cosy feel...but what we put in the lounge should also run through the hall? I would like to paint it in a way that would suit myself and also buyers taste's as I do intend on seeling in the next few years...not sure when! Pref sooner than later! Any advice would be great! Let me know if you need any xtra pics! Cheers. Re: Help wanted for internal colours please!!!!! 11May 31, 2009 3:19 pm Sorry I haven’t been in much…… I need time to look at colours for you; I’m off the pictures in 5 minutes. I’ve had a very busy weekend. I promise to get to you tomorrow night!! Now since you are thinking of selling in a couple of years I’m going to suggest a warm white so it goes with everything. It will also complement the timber floors. Not sure about other colours yet! I thought about painting the whole room a blue such as competitive edge...duckeggy colour justt to cosy it up a bit. Then theres the white option and warm it up with accessories! Feature wall somewhere maybe??? Just a hard space to work with!!! My style is eclectic...mish mash of old new & funky things!!! Hope to hear from you soon!! Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5404 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7937 3 10201 |
