Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 24, 2009 12:58 pm Hi! I am a newbie to posting on these forums, but have been browsing happily for several months. There is so much great info on here and I am constantly amazed at Michelle's generosity with her time and expertise helping hopeless people like me!! Now I have come cap in hand to beg for a little help myself!! We are doing a large renovation on an early 1980s home in Tassie and I am trying to work out the colours for my formal lounge. We will have silvery grey-greenish carpet (sorry, the colour is hard to describe). Link is http://www.signaturefloors.com.au/Monog ... nogram.pdf (Colour is Classic Interpretations Harbour Fog, the girl's purse in the picture is made out of the carpet !) We will also have silver curtains and silver fabric light-shades. Our lounge is a grey-pink-burgundy floral, it is an old one, but we can't afford to get a new one right now, especially as it is in excellent conditon. My accent colour will be burgundy (ie lamps, cushions, wall-art, etc). Flow colour throughout the house is Hog-Bristle 1/4 strength, which I love. I would love a feature wall in the lounge, but just cannot get the colour right. I have been through around 6 different samples and hate them all. DH is I think about to divorce me if I don't definitely pick one this time. What I would like is a lovely dark grey which is not too cold and tones with all my other selections, especially my silver bits. Please help, do any of you colour-clever people have any suggestions? Please, Michelle??? Regards, MagicJ MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 3May 24, 2009 1:15 pm Hi I'm definitely not a colour-clever person but we are going through greys at the moment. There is one called Haymes Legend that I love - not sure if it is quite dark enough for you/a feature wall - it has sort of purply undertones so might not go with your grey-greenish carpet ? but would definitely match silver and pink... Below is a mock up of the colour using the Haymes Paint program... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I can post a pic of our sample board up against our current walls (rental, but i'm pretty sure they are hog bristle of some strength!)...but I'll have to do that later coz DH is out with the camera.... Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 4May 24, 2009 2:03 pm Thanks, havingfun, that would be great. The colour you mean is the dark grey on the right hand wall in your picture, am I correct? If so, that is definitely the sort of thing I mean. Although, maybe the wall would look better a bit darker? http://www.beaconshop.com.au/components ... ss08_8.jpg As you can see, I really have no idea what I am doing. Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 9May 25, 2009 7:00 pm MagicJ..well that’s one way to display carpet….a girls purse! Should be the mans wallet! Hahahaha Good neutral carpet will go with everything. For now we will not worry about a lounge that will be replaced down the track. And yes…you need your silver bits matching……….. This is so elegant! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Lets see what I can do. You are good. On my monitor, the endless dusk looks a bit darker. I know in some of your previous posts you have said that a feature wall should be a bit stand-outish so that it is actually a feature. But the milton moon looks a bit more silver, like the example picture. If it were you, which would you have, do you think ? Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 12May 25, 2009 8:31 pm PS I have to confess, I loved your Nick's Nook feature wall so much that I am going to have that colour as a feature wall in my entrance hall. Fingers crossed that it turns out as well as yours has. Congrats on your new home - you've done an amazing job in such a short space of time!! Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 13May 25, 2009 8:37 pm MagicJ….thank you so much with the comments of my little home. I’ve had plenty of time to get that together….2 mouth exchange for goodness sake! I love the Nicks Nook, you can’t go wrong with it. I’d go the one below….. Dulux Milton Moon. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ By the way, will you see the Nicks Nook and the Milton Magic as you enter a space? If so….you are in for a real treat! The 2 will look amazing. We bought the place in November, moved in in February and are about to start demolition of old kitchen next week!!! New kitchen will be yummy, the old was a total horror, can't wait! I hear you on the hot water heater issue, just got ours replaced today - no gas in our part of Tassie unfortunately - we had a Rinnai Infinity in Melbourne and I adored it, but back to plain old electric hot water cylinder here. I have to confess that I had a colour consultant help me with some of my colours. But I hadn't picked my carpet when she gave me a feature wall colour in the lounge and did not like them together when I did (she picked Dulux Pre-Raphaelite) - too late then, had to try and pick it myself, big disaster. And she picked Dulux Garden Pond for the entrance foyer, which looked too much like spearmint toothpaste in the morning sun, hence the change to Nick's Nook. (You can see why DH is pulling out his hair!) I'm glad you said the Milton's Moon, that was my favourite of the two as well, but am totally doubting myself now. The lounge enters off the foyer but you cannot see the feature wall from there unfortunately, but at least I know now the colours won't jar. Thanks so much!!! This renovating caper is a little tough at times, isn't it? Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 16May 25, 2009 9:56 pm I didn’t see your reply. Here’s a hint to people before getting in a colour consultant or decorator. Get yourself sorted before she/he comes. Although, I would not have given you colours till you had picked your carpet, or I had picked it for you. That’s a backward way to do it. Anyway….renos are fun aren’t they! In fact…I would rather do a reno than a new build. Good luck with it all….you are on the right track! Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 17May 26, 2009 10:29 am I really needed her urgent help with kitchen colours, because we wanted to get it ordered ASAP. Our current kitchen is just awful. That is why I hadn't properly decided the rest of the house. I have chosen 40mm Quantum Quartz Coco for my benchtop, with one waterfall end (it is a G shaped kitchen), alabaster textured vinyl wrap doors and a ceiling height starphire glass splashback in Dulux Seabreeze 1/2 behind a curved glass canopy rangehood. Floor will be solid Tasmanian Blackwood. We will have a toning feature wall in Dulux Post Boy in the adjoining living room, with all other walls in the Hog Bristle 1/4. Im so excited about it all, I could burst - like a kid at Christmas! Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 18May 28, 2009 7:59 pm Ok. Have bought Milton Moon. Full can too, because DH has laid down the law - NO MORE SAMPLE POTS!!! So, this is it, for better or worse !! MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Re: Please help with feature wall colour - am getting desperate! 20May 28, 2009 10:44 pm Thanks, havingfun! If I can work out how to do it, I will!! And thank you for your input too. From seeing Michelle's previous work on this forum, I'm guessing Milton Moon will look great. DH says I'm not even allowed to see the paint on the wall until it's finished - he's worried I'll change my mind again Regards, MagicJ MagicJ I finally have my own reno thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28335 The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue! Hi there, we have classic cream gutters, fascia’s, roller door and undercover carport. We are are going to paint the roof a terracotta orange colour. After some… 0 4490 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7079 Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3212 |
