Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 13, 2009 11:20 am Hi All We have just ordered our Timber Flooring for our new home. Can you please let me know your thoughts on our decisions. P.S. I am very colour challenged. Timber Flooring - over 100m2 kitchen, entries, study, dining and family rooms. Specie is Spotted Gum Kitchen Cupboards - Laminex Amari Oak (not sure of the kicker colour) Exterior Outdoor Room and Portico - Merbau decking , maybe Spotted Gum if available. Exterior Roofing - Cedar Lining Western Cedar We also love plantation shutters for our front bedrooms. And then we still have to choose all our furniture, wanting to stay away from more timber. Is this OTT? Is it too much timber? Any comments would be very much appreciated. Re: Timber, Timber, Timber Is this OTT? HELP 2May 13, 2009 6:27 pm We are timber freaks as well (not that I'm calling you a freak mind ) We have spotted gum throughout and a black and silver kitchen. Having lived with s. gum for 7 months I'd say if you are going oak cupboards then a light (natural) colour is the way to go .. it offers contrast against the floors which is a good thing. If you like a modern look a light oak is nice against s. gum. Depends what you are after - jarrah is also spectacular for more traditional appeal. Wood decking is fine with the wood floors - it offers a seamless look. We purchased Batu which is great with spotted gum. Check out your kickers ... go for stainless steel kickers perhaps (you can get laminex s/s)... it's a great contrast with the wood floors. Don't forget you also have furniture to add which will provide another 'layer' of colour and texture against the wood. If you are going plantation shutters then just get them painted .. better that they match the walls IMO. Good luck. Re: Timber, Timber, Timber Is this OTT? HELP 3May 13, 2009 7:40 pm Well aren’t you lucky you are asking about timber! It goes with anything! You have nothing to worry about. But perhaps a black kick, just to make sure. The stainless in the laminate…..if not put on right, can look a little ordinary. HELP 4May 13, 2009 8:15 pm Definately use spotted gum decking outside, it will flow perfectly from inside. The majority of the decking is Qld spotted gum so you shouldn't have any supply issues up there (I'm assuming the internal flooring is Qld spotted gum, not NSW spotty) Re: Timber, Timber, Timber Is this OTT? Pitty we have our kickers in the same oak and its too late to change as they have already been ordered. Oh well. Fingers crossed it contrasts well against the timber floor. Black kicker would have been great if we thought about it 5 months ago but oh well. Gotta wait 2 weeks now to see the cabinets and floor together. Re: Timber, Timber, Timber Is this OTT? We will research the decking thanks Dukekamaya. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 Thanks Pulse, thats really helpful and very much appreciated. Also thanks for the pointer on sheathing, thats me watching too many american youtube videos! 6 2796 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6135 |
