My bricks actually have a bit of a blue hue in them, however because I teamed it with a green/grey roof (Woodland Grey), the blue is not picked up on or highlighted. Hopefully will be the same with your laminex! Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 22May 10, 2009 10:35 pm You know what Joles, I'm not seeing a lot of blue, just a tinge and I think that's probably what's making it look more on the grey side than brown. I have to say, if this makes any sense (because it is Mother's Day and I have had a couple of wines just to end my day of nicely) that it's one of those colours that when you really like, it doesn't matter what others think, it's just the right colour for you. Blue is my favourite colour so whenever it appears in something I always love it. That's the thing with our bricks, we have the Austral La Trobe, which are brown, but they have that blue/grey thing happening (which is probably the same thing that is happening in Donuts bricks) within the colour and I think that's what drew us to it. I'm just not a big patterned person, I tend to go towards the more plain side, which you will see as I am about to put some photos up (tomorrow, because it will take a bit too long tonight), but I can see why you would really like the smoky sapelle and would prefer it to something that's a bit more common or safe. I really hope that when you take the board in to Laminex that it does work because it is such a nice colour combination and texture. Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 23May 11, 2009 12:20 am photogirl Those colours work so well together. I really love that splashback, what colour is it? I shouldn't ask because I had a bit of a splashback issue the other day and had to make a decision, but wish I had seen that colour then. But I will ask. The smoky sapelle looks different again from the small sample and the other kitchen photo but I really like it. I could see the blue in it as well, but I can see some brown in it . It seems to be a good mix of colours that would give you a choice of a wider range of colours to go with it, which is always a good thing. Are you still unsure about the pattern Joles because you seemed to be a bit unsure in your last post? Hey Netadelle, how romantic. I was a bit sceptical about internet dating sites but have to say based on what I have heard about that particular one it's bought some really nice people together. That can only be a good thing. Hi photogirl, thanks I hope they do work well together when they get installed. I know I shouldn't answer your question about the colour of the splashback as to not confuse you but you did ask so I have to answer. The colour is called phantom, the glass company is called Deco Glaze (http://www.decoglaze.com.au/Glass-Splashback.html) their website is handy as you can play with the kitchens and add the colours to see them on. Joles, I just grabbed the sample again and I really don't think it's blue as such, but I am now looking at it under a terrible light saving bulb light (in our current tiny rental) but even during the day I think it's greyish... Taking the big board with your paint and the tile is a great idea, let us know how you go and do share the pics! I didn't want to go with the more popular laminex patterns in the kitchen either as I wanted it to be a bit different and fresh, let's hope it works! I also didn't pick very popular colours. No-one uses Stipple Hemp and that is my main kitchen colour. Hope it's ok. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 25May 11, 2009 11:20 am Thanks Jochicho That's a great site, I had a little play with the colours just because you can. Can't change my colour now but you know what, I think I could change my mind forever on splashbacks. There are too many to choose from. Pity they are so expensive. Maybe someone could make a changing splashback like digital screens, that would be handy for people like me who can't make a decision, I could change my mind everyday and it wouldn't cost me anymore money. Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 26May 11, 2009 12:32 pm Hi Joles, I'll like to see the bigger pics and hear your opinion once you've seen it in the flesh... Yeah, you have been very brave with your choices but I am sure they'll work. My only "out there" choice has been this really so I am really hoping it will work. At least our places will be different! Photogirl, somehow I knew you would have a play on that website, and that's right, just cause you can. I played again when copied the link for you even though I am not planning on changing the splashback... That's a great idea! Getting a digital splashback that changes colours for those of us that find it hard to decide! maybe you should look into it and maybe market it... I haven't been yet. I've had the flu (good excuse to stay in my pyjamas! ). I'm planning on going Monday or Tuesday. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Building a Wisdom Prosperity 23 - http://erwisdomprosperity.blogspot.com/ Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 30May 19, 2009 5:48 pm Ok Jochicho, photogirl, DeeElle and anyone else interested, I have some pics of it with my choices.... what do you think? Do you think it goes ok with the greeny/greys. I can see the blue in the pics... but not so much in person. Or do I have selective vision? I have cut and pasted this from another post in another thread But thought you may not see it there. Can you also please comment on the bottom pic... my kitchen stuff... I love it. Here is my Smoky Sapelle with my paint and floor tile. I think it's ok. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-05-19_15-12-43_19052009803.jpg http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-05-19_15-12-20_190520098021.jpg And here is my main kitchen colour Stipple Hemp with my floor tile. I've been really worried about this, but I love how they look together. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-05-19_15-12-59_19052009804.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 31May 19, 2009 9:02 pm Hi Joles, I really like it! I think it goes well with the grey tones (well, I will be using it as a grey tone anyway ) and it really works with your floor tile, love your floor tiles too, what are the colours called? well, actually, I won't be able to find them up here in Sydney anyway... I don't think the Smoky is blue either, might look in the pics but not really in real life. Your stipple hemp looks lovely with the floor tile too! great colours Joles, I can't wait to see it all coming together! Building a Wisdom Prosperity 23 - http://erwisdomprosperity.blogspot.com/ Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 32May 19, 2009 9:35 pm Ooooo I LOVE your kitchen colours together!! Very nice I can see some blue in the smokey sapelle, but not alot....it all looks very brown to me Welcome to the club!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 33May 19, 2009 9:43 pm Yep, love 'em all! I think the tile will bring out grey/green hues in the smokey sapelle, even if there is a tinge of blue! When I said that's what I wanted at coloour selections the girl got so excited! She said I was her first client to select it, heaps pick Stipple Seal and Stipple Cocoa and other Stipples. She said this was her favourite Stipple and she was excited someone was using it! kek also has it for her overheads in the kitchen. That's three of us! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Laminex Smoky Sapelle.... pics anyone?? 37May 20, 2009 3:32 pm Joles it all looks great together. I will still stand by the fact that I see a touch of blue and brown in it, but have been known to see things that are not there . In my defence I haven't seen it in real life so it may look a lot different. Plus I find you need to see things larger than just a small colour sample because it does change the look. I love the pattern on the smoky sapelle and am really glad that you are happy with it because I knew you were a bit unsure at one stage. I think it will look fantastic. Good on you for going for something different. The floor tiles are just the right colour. They have a nice balance between dark and light. I think mine are too light and the other choice I had too dark, but yours is just right. I am a bit jealous, I had started being happy with mine and then I saw yours and doubt crept in again. This is fun, my build is almost over so now get to watch yours come together. See there is no need to leave homeone, too much going on. Wish you all the best.
