Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 08, 2009 3:02 pm So I did something really silly.. I second guessed myself when making changes to our house plan. Origionally I wanted to change the study in our plan to a 4th Bedroom.. which was an option with PD. And i did select that option when we went through sales. But when it got to contract.. I changed my mind to a Study with double doors.. (I have no idea why, I think because it appeared to make the house look more open) but then due to a shortfall in valuation we deleted the double doors.. So now it's just an open study. So now I'm stuck with a study that I don't really want.. it's very visible from the kitchen and house, whereas I would have liked the option to close it off. Now I need to make sure it looks fantastic at all times.. *sigh* And PD said "ABSOLUTELY NO STRUCTURAL CHANGES!" So how can I make the most of my sillyness? Show me your study or study ideas! I really want it so.. - I can have a filing cabinet (but i can't find any nice cheap timber look ones) - Simple desk - Hide the computer cables and mess - Maybe have some seating in there too - All of this done CHEAPLY but not tacky. Here's my plan.. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our window is on the wall opposite the entry to the study, not on the wall shown in this plan. Inspire me please!! Or tell me how to make me love mine.. 2May 08, 2009 3:07 pm Erin I can't help you with the study design... not up to that yet. But I just wanted to say that a while ago when mum was looking at building on her own, she was thinking about this house and she would have gone with the open study. I also am a big fan and the open study means that if you are on the computer you aren't disconnected from the household. And also, if the time comes when you have kids, you can keep an eye on their computer use and help with homework from the kitchen while cooking. Just wanted to make you feel better about your "mistake" as you called it... because I don't think it was one. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. You could put 2 bookshelves either side of the window and then a bench type seat under the window. Makes a great spot to read as you can look out the window. I think it makes it more inviting. I will try and attach a picture but not sure how so it might not work. The pic in the magazine was all white rather than wood and I think it looked better. Try some of IKEA's ideas....there's a gallery here: http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/categories/departments/workspaces Some of their bookshelves have optional doors to hide messy bits and pieces (the frosted glass ones are nice). There are floating shelves, which look really clean and stylish, lots of desks and tables and under-desk units that are nicer than your average filing cabinet. You could do worse than go down there for a browse. Re: Show me your study! Cheap and easy solution to tie the rooms together. A comfy chair for reading with a cushion to match the ones in the family room would be nice too. Kexkez, you could achieve a similar thing with flatpack furniture. Some shelves, filled with colour-coordinated storage boxes and binders, plus a long table-style desk and a couple of under-desk drawer units would achieve the same look without the cost of built-ins. Re: Show me your study! Or tell me how to make me love mine.. 20May 09, 2009 10:14 am I love this one! It's gorgeous, if I could get my study looking like this.. i wouldn't need to close it off! =) I LOVE this filing cabinet in the second picture.. where did you find these? I want it!! I love the idea of making stationary a feature theme! I may get a little carried away though.. i love stationary/storage things. Hmmm.. I also like the idea of tieing it in with the kitchen.. but our kitchen it pretty 'safe' color wise, it's all greys/wenge colors. Even our splashback is a grey. But i could definately have the same color themes going throughout.. or have similar DIY artworks to tie the kitchen and study in together! Great idea. Thank you everyone thats replied.. you are making me think perhaps I can do this and it can be my own little project.. maybe it wasn't a mistake after all.
