Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 May 07, 2009 3:51 pm Just wondering what sort of window coverings are suitable for bi-folds? do most people leave them without anything? I was thinking of doing this as they are a nice feature, but in winter I would like something infront of them to help keep out the cold. I am having white timber venetians at the other windows and white plantation shutters in the wall cut outs. But I didn't really want to use venetians on them as I think it will look too bulky and the kids will be playing with them all the time Any other ideas please? Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 2May 07, 2009 7:57 pm The only other option I've seen been used are the silky, half seethrough sort of curtains, like the ones Donuts has. I've seen these in display homes.. Something like the one in here - http://www.carlislehomes.com.au/atlantique2.html kek's house has the venetians your thinking about - looks pretty good. Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 4May 07, 2009 9:55 pm I'm going for Romans - not individual ones on each leaf though, a big one that can be pulled up above the doors, out of the way. I plan to add side drapes in the same fabric to our lounge windows, which already have timber venetians, just to tie it all together. Saw some nice ones in the PD and Simonds new displays at Mernda Villages. Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 5May 07, 2009 10:04 pm Thanks for the suggestions. I like kek's idea of having a roman blind that can be pulled up out of the way and then lowered at night. Do you think that would look ok with the white timber venetians on the other windows? Edit - I could have boxed padded valances above the other windows in the same fabric as the roman blind. I have seen this in a display and it looked good and tied it all together. Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 6May 08, 2009 6:37 am I'm probably going to add a pelment to our dining room window in the same fabric as the Romans, Hels - I think it's a good idea so it doesn't look like you tried to get one of everything in there. Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 7May 08, 2009 12:10 pm We have romans over ours, they work really well. They have a slight pattern in the fabric and are the same colour as the skirtings. The only thing I would do differently next time is get them mounted a few inches higher so when they are up they do not hang down over the top of the doorway. Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 8May 08, 2009 12:32 pm Rellie, your house is ridiculously beautiful. Every time I see a pic it looks gorgeous. I'm following this thread with interest.... window coverings in general scare me... the bi-folds are giving me nightmares. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Thanks for sharing, that looks great. I am thinking more and more that this is the way we will go and with the pelmets on the other windows as kek suggested. I might be a bit daring and go for a patterned fabric, something with cherry red in the colour (maybe stripes?) which will match our rug and cushions in the family area. Excuse the awful photos, these were taken with my phone on a VERY bright day so lighting conditions were tricky. This is a S1monds display (the fabric's not to my taste, but I like the idea): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Same house - this is the kind of thing I want to do in our lounge, which is opposite the bifolds: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This one's a P0rter D@vis display - a subtle stripe. I like how the blind is mounted up high, so it opens right out of the way: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Window coverings for Bi-fold doors? 11May 09, 2009 9:47 pm Thanks for sharing the photos, that last one the PD house looks very close to what I'd like.
