Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 15, 2009 10:43 pm Hi Michelle, We need to pick a colour to paint our walls. To stay cheap we have to pick from the Solver Paints Builders Colour Palette. Our theme is charcol. We are having charcol (laminex) cabinets in the bathrooms and kitchen, with white tiles as the splashback and white tiles in bathroom. (20 x30cm tiles laid vertically) Benchtops in the bathroom is going to be laminex silver grey. Benchtops in kitchen is going to be laminex White Valencia. We are having charcol tiles as the flooring in the bathrooms and laundry. The main house tiles are going to be as close a match to the white valencia as we can find. Carpets in the bedrooms is going to be charcol also. The feature tile in the bathrooms is a gravel stone, which is yep you guessed it, charcol coloured. We are going to have all the tile grouting done with 241 Misty grey. So I need to work out which of the Solver Paints is the closest to grey as possible. I am imagining something like a tin of white paint with one dob of black added to it, then mixed. Do you know how I would find out what the 'base' colour of the paints are? Anyway looking at the colour chart we have been given, those that look closest to 'white with a bit of black to make grey" are: First Snow 6301 Tulip Whit 3652 Cumulus 2791 (I like this one, mostly because it is the name of my favorite type of cloud) Spirit Grey 2782 Opera 3781 Cape Horn 2781 Mercury Glass 6278 (I know, very white and grey, but we are going for a Japenese rock garden theme, so there will be green towels in the bathroom, and live bamboo etc) Thanks in advance. I think I found our carpet today. I will put it on my blog when I get time. Re: Wall colour - what is light grey 4Apr 16, 2009 4:10 pm I believe you and I are the only people with a charcoal theme around here, netadelle (that is, after Joles defected to the brown brigade). I also have Laminex Charcoal kitchen and charcoal carpet but have gone for white walls and bits and pieces of red in the house. Don't you like whites for walls? I hate brown and beige!! We chose a wattyl colour for our walls though so I can't really help. Ours was Oxford White (half strength) for our walls if that helps? It is the slightest bit "grey". Maybe Bunnings or such can tell you the equivilent? Good luck! And your tiles look nearly the same as what I put in my current home. I agree, go to a paint store and get the mix from the experts. Have chosen grey tiles for wet areas, charcoal carpet. We will be having timber flooring elsewhere though - clearly not grey. Walls are Dulux Whisper White - a bit creamish but should be fine and warmish. Architraves are Lexicon 1/2 strength. We are all painted now, so check out our thread or the blog for photos. Re: Wall colour - what is light grey 15Apr 17, 2009 6:56 pm Judie Thread hijack: havingfun and mek - do you have samples of your carpet? I'm looking for a nice grey carpet and am having trouble finding much to choose from. Thanks. Judie I didn't have much trouble, it was the only grey carpet in the shop that was that dark, and that wasn't hard as nails. I really like the pattern on it also. Doghouse - Seeing your photos has solidified my resolve to have the skirtings painted enamel white It's an upgrade, but I think it is worth it for the look. They have all colour selections for bricks, laminates, taps, door knobs etc. all set up in the garage of the second display. You can go there anytime to decide on what you would like. We haven't chosen our tiles or carpet yet, but i was in tile place at riverlink yesterday and there tiles are beautiful but a little expensive i thought. I don't have a building thread but a set up a blog. It's brampton195 on blogger not sure of the actual web address.
