Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge Re: External rendering to match a slate grey roof? 5Apr 20, 2009 8:56 pm Dear Michelle, The Silkwort matches well, but we wondered whether we should try a warmer colour and would love your thoughts on colourbond Dune as an alternative render. And if we were to go with Dune (or a similar colour), should we change the colour of the aluminium window frames? We are worried that having metallic silver frames restricts our choices of render colours. I've attached the Rylock metallic silver sample. (Mind you, the attachment doesn't really do it justice) Would white aluminium window frames be a better/safer option? Irrespective of what colour render we eventually choose? Bit like having a soft grey really. Also….Dune is one of my all time fav colours, it just goes with everything! I would stay with your original windows, 2 reasons. 1) they will be cheaper 2) they should be fine. We think we'll go with Dune for the walls, downpipes, and Dutch gables. and 1/2 strength Dune for the eaves. (I've always wondered why many recommend reducing the strength for the eaves) We'll post our house when it is finished - hopefully sometime around Xmas. Cheers Boris and Barbara I would probably render it and then paint it as per your other advice, or gyrpock over the top. 1 15146 ![]() To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even.
