Browse Forums Interior Decorating Lounge 1 Apr 09, 2009 12:20 am I know we've had this topic before but I was wondering what type of chairs people are buying for their dining tables and whether anyone is mixing and matching like I'm thinking of doing.
We have a large oak refectory table that I'd like to keep but I'd like to get rid of the wooden high backed chairs and mix the table with some modern low backed ones. Do you think we should be going for white and perhaps two black for the ends or all the same colours? We have mixed the colours of our bar stools and they look good with the black kitchen. Maybe a large plant against the wall before the bifolds or something would make it look less like a airport runway Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Cheers Re: Dining chairs ... again 2Apr 11, 2009 1:26 pm I can’t help you Dee, from state to state it’s hard to know who’s got what. I hope you find some! Your house is looking great. Where abouts is the space you want to fill? A plant is always good! Re: Dining chairs ... again 4Apr 12, 2009 8:54 am We just sold a teak square table with eight white leather chairs, it was gorgeous, sold it for a damn song as well. I like the white with the timber...very much. Oh and we are having Barcelona chairs for dining chairs, they are higher than your average BC and they are FABULOUS can't wait to set up house Re: Dining chairs ... again 5Apr 12, 2009 6:16 pm Missy those white dining chairs are PERFECT . Exactly what we are looking for. Are they from Freedom?? Again you hit the nail on the head ... rugs are a very very good idea to break up the floor space. Well done and thank you. ........ SuH what are barcelona chairs ... and I wish I knew you were selling your white ones . Thanks all. Re: Dining chairs ... again 6Apr 12, 2009 7:36 pm Hey Dy, these ones are from Oz design.....worth a look aswell. What about something upholstered in the same fabric as your lounge that looks nice also. You could do it in a colour that was complimentary rather then the same. INMO.......If you go for a contemporary colour and material you might not need to go for low aswell. I say that because your table is a strong wood table and you don't want to lose the chairs in the space. If you had a small space that would be good but you have alot of space and your furniture fills it well.....just something to consider. So I would keep them higher but make them from an updated material or colour or both........ Loving your home still by the way, it looks very beautiful and homely. The chairs are from Nick Scali, found them very comfy. Happy to help Custom build! Re: Dining chairs ... again 9Apr 13, 2009 12:56 am Thanks everyone I knew I could count on you to help . gweluphome I think you are right. Although I like low back chairs I think the space needs some height. I also saw the ones from Oz Design. I might try Nick Scali as the chairs are a similar square shape as our barstools + I like the idea of comfort. Ty Re: Dining table and chairs - sold 'em 10Apr 29, 2009 1:44 am Hi All, Sorry to bump this thread up again however: DH and I decided to put our table, chairs and buffet on ebay and unexpectedly sold the lot (you might wonder why I am surprised by this as it was up for auction ). Anyhow now we are left with nothing . I've got a house full of people arriving next week for a birthday dinner party and no where to sit. I've thought of hiring a table but think I should be able to find something in stock somewhere. Now that I can start afresh, I've been looking around and haven't found anything that I really like or that DH and I can agree on. I'm now thinking of perhaps a dark rustic old wooden table and some modern white leather chairs from a funky Italian shop in Norwood. I don't want "matchy matchy" and I think glass could scratch plus look a bit cold. So now I am simply out of ideas and would welcome any suggestions (except to suggest I am a dill for selling it in the first place ). Cheers Dy Re: Dining table and chairs - sold 'em 11Apr 29, 2009 11:52 pm Hey Dy, Congrats on selling your furniture so quickly but nothing like the pressure of a dinner party to get your mind in overdrive. How about sticking with your original idea and looking for a rustic wooden table or even a wooden extension table with those nice sleek chairs. I have attched a couple of my most fave dining combos. Not necessarily what you are looking for but some nice options and just nice rooms. Good luck with your search and pics when its in please. After traipsing about Adelaide I found two shops that had great furniture. I fell in love with a solid jarrah table but my DH didn't like the 'picnic' style legs . He said it reminded him of Yogi Bear and Booboo. In my ventures I found an artist who makes furniture. Unfortunately he is WAY out of my price range but OMG his stuff is absolutely stunning - I thought I'd let you guys drool as well... http://www.khailiewdesign.com/khailiew.htm What I did buy: I ended up finding a great solid oak top table with stainless steel legs and purchased it straight up, with 8 leather black chairs, and a charcoal two pac buffet. Its all arriving today. I'll post a pic of the finished items later but because I'm excited and couldn't wait I thought I'd show you an example of the chairs ... I ended up purchasing 6 low back chairs, and 2 high back chairs for the ends. There goes my new laptop . AND my daughters painting has arrived .. we are getting it framed this w.e. Still not sure how to frame it . any artistic ideas welcome Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 6 of these but in black Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This pic will sit above the buffet. I think a black frame is too stark but maybe a light oak to tie in with the table?? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'm so excited .. I can't wait. Re: Before and After - Dining Tables 13May 02, 2009 9:42 pm Re: Before and After - Dining Tables 15May 02, 2009 10:06 pm That looks perfect DeeElle! I love how you've got the shorter chairs on the sides with the tall chairs on the ends. I would never have thought of that but it looks so fantastic. And your buffet ties in beautifully! Totally worth taking the day off to find those gems Re: Before and After - Dining Tables 17May 02, 2009 11:22 pm DeeElle I took the whole day off work on Friday to find another table, buffet and chairs. Yes thats our girl . She loves warming her back on the fireplace. Its funny but when it arrived DH said he wasn't sure about the table (I purchased it without him seeing it). But now he loves it . Re: Before and After - Dining Tables 19May 03, 2009 7:06 am Wow Dy it all looks wonderful, you must be so pleased. Love the mirror above the table too! Did they make it in time for the dinner party?
