But if you seriously think your home is struggling on the market to pull lookers in. Get one….it will be worth it. If they don't tell you then ask them... just don't be offended by their answer! The appearance and presentation of a home for sale is very different to a home you live in..... Re: Getting a stylist when selling 4Apr 02, 2009 9:39 am Thanks for that guys. Our house is brand new and only partly furnished, our Estate Agent has suggested we use her stylist. I have a meeting with her this afternoon so will see what the quote is like, I think she mention about 3k for 8 pieces, will have to wait and see. Thanks again Re: Getting a stylist when selling 5Apr 02, 2009 10:16 am Renosmakemeweary A good real estate agent should tell you what needs doing to make your home more attractive to buyers. Maybe not colours and decorating etc. but general things like de cluttering, cleaning and maintenance should be explained. But I have just been looking for a house to buy, and I was amazed at what they were showing me, and expecting me to be interested! THEY….obviously were not telling their clients how to de clutter and clean. I was expected to look past all that. And I didn’t! I also didn’t buy the homes either…. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Getting a stylist when selling 8Apr 02, 2009 11:31 am Def go with a stylist if you think your home needs it. I would have thought if it didn't then a stylist wouldn't offer much help anyway. But well kept and presented homes def sell better and quicker in any market. Good luck A thankful person is a happy person. [/color]My hobby design blog: http://aviewondesign.blogspot.com/ Re: Getting a stylist when selling 9Apr 02, 2009 11:52 am Hey there, This is my field of expertise! A stylist should tell you what to do and how, they don't necessarily have to do it for you. If you do the shopping yourself you will save heaps of money. Get a stylist that charges for advice by the hour and then have a go yourself based on their advice. If they are any good they will educate you or provide a plan of action for you with some specific colours (if necessary). But honestly, its all about getting rid of the clutter (usual household mess). Just go into a project home and see how sparse they are and what they decorate with (usually very little) look at what they have glued to the cupboards in the way of accessories. Just one vase or flower arrangement to one room, a few tall, medium and low height objects here and there. Just a picture too one wall not many, try to remove family photos that show your ownership to the home. But no newspapers, mugs on trees on kitchen benches, (bar a few mags on the coffee table) and no toys, bills, piles of "things to do". Try to remove all boxes or "stuff" containers on the floor. I know you probably feel that your abilities are the sum of what is evident in your home now, but its not rocket science. Any old pieces of furniture can just get stored in a garage somewhere and you could even pick up some new pieces at auction houses, rental shops or even K-Mart or Target. It doesn't need to be a $1000 dollar make over- just a tidy up and freshen up. Give it a go, its much the same as getting your hair done and buying a new outfit, shoes and handbag- new is fresh, unwrinkled, smells new, clean that’s what you need to do. GOOD LUCK! Pinkladyloo Re: Getting a stylist when selling 10Apr 02, 2009 2:56 pm Thanks so much for everyones helpful advice! The styling consultant has been and will be sending through a quote later today. It's actually one of those companies that you rent the furniture from for a sale, so they bring all he stuff in and then pick it up again six weeks later. She pretty much has a blank canvas here as I have a very sparse look and zero clutter, some of our formal rooms aren't even furnished. Cant wait to see what they come up with Re: Getting a stylist when selling 11Apr 03, 2009 1:52 am It's a very popular thing to do over here in North America - it's called Home Staging - basically swapping out some or all of your furniture with rented props. The driver is that the key in selling your house is to make potential buyers see themselves living in your home. If you have lots of clutter e.g. bunk beds and two desks in a room and the buyer is looking for somewhere to have an office, they won't necessarily see the potential. It's also a lot to do with first impressions. Which would you prefer walking into a house you want to buy - the 'lived in been here 20 years' look or the 'clean uncluttered almost brand new furntiure' look? And on a similar vein - never underestimate what a simple coat of paint will do to a house - especially if it's a nice bright cream/white/neutral. After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Getting a stylist when selling 12Apr 04, 2009 3:48 pm I agree with muzzman, don't ever underestimate the value in a coat of paint and a clean up! I'm a little biased however as Home Staging is my job It's always worth getting a stylist. An experienced stylist will always work within your budget and obviously should not cost more than the extra money you will make on the sale of your home. Remember, the key is to increase the sale price of the home (your profit), as well as reducing the amount of time your property spends on the market. I hope this helps. I am very excited, we have been living in this big new house for about 12 weeks now and it has been VERY empty, we've been rattling around in here! Re: Getting a stylist when selling 18Apr 06, 2009 12:44 pm A client of mine sold her home last year and had a stylist come and organise things for her. It was a large new house, and she had a number of unfurnished or sparsely furnished rooms and some cruddy old bits and pieces too. The difference that some good advice, plus some rented furniture and accessories made was enormous. The house sold quickly for quite a bit more than she expected - and that was a LOT more than what was spent on making the place look good. I'd definitely consider it if I was selling in future. I'd like to see before and after photos too.
